[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] help with fix due date check out

2014-05-19 Thread Janice Huber
We are getting ready to go live in July. I have been struggling to get a
successful test of the fixed due date check out. I was under the belief
that I could set a cir rule that would make that happen but when I check
out a book to myself it only gives me the default four weeks.

Any ideas? Any volunteers to talk with me by phone?

Many, many thanks,

One question to start with:

Is your fixed date more than 4 weeks away or less? If more, did you
set the option to make it take effect always instead of just being a
cut off date?

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Setup service for Evergreen - absolute novice at Linux.

2014-05-19 Thread Ben Shum
Hi Tom,

While, the Evergreen community is still striving towards making it easier
to follow the README guides for installation of Evergreen and its
dependencies, it does often require a good amount of Linux skills before
you start with Evergreen.

I'm not advocating for any specific support company, but there is a list of
paid groups here (including services like hosting and consulting) on the
Evergreen site:
http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=faqs:evergreen_companies

I would recommend getting references from some of the various customers who
use these groups as well.

Cheers, happy investigations.

  Hi there,

I’m a complete novice when it comes to Linux, and I am completely
baffled on how to install Evergreen 2.6 on my server.

At my company, we are planning to open a on-site library, and after
researching, Evergreen offers the best feature set of all the open source
 ILS systems.

I am just wondering if there is, either, a ‘for dummies’ explanation to
installing Evergreen, or whether there is a server (free or paid) that will
either host it or install it for us.

  Many thanks in advance,

  Tom Collins

Horizontal vs. Vertical Patron Display
It’s hard for me to envision the two interfaces, based solely on your written
descriptions, but I don’t see anything off-putting about the way you have it
set up currently. I agree that there should be one way of building it, so
future focus can be on enhancements rather than playing catch-up and having to
maintain two versions (likely, things will start to be lost).

Link Behavior
As a diehard “open in new tab” person, I rarely trust links to behave the way I
want – therefore I tend to right-click or use keyboard shortcuts to ensure I am
not redirected from my current page. I vote for your proposed thinking. I think
you deserve a break somewhere in the process and this simplifies things.

As for behavior, your described clicking behavior is the same in Firefox.
