[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Reminder: Evergreen for Academics - Goals Priorities Poll ends Tomorrow!

2014-09-29 Thread Kelly Drake
Good morning,

Just a reminder that the poll is closing tomorrow evening! Meeting on
Thursday at 3:00 pm ET.

Following up on the August 14 meeting of Evergreen for Academics, Yamil,
Kathy and I have put together a quick poll to access the interest and
priorities for goals established at the meeting.

The poll is divided into three sections. The first, asks you to identify
yourself and your institution, the second, asks that you indicate the level
of resources you or your institution would be theoretically willing to
commit to a goal, and the third asks you to select 5 of the goals and
prioritize them.

It is OK, even recommended, for more than one person from a particular
library or consortium to fill
in the form. Just consider identifying your institution so we know, in case
we want to aggregate data in more than one way.

Please complete the poll at your earliest convenience but prior to
September 30th:

https://docs.google.com/a/flo.org/forms/d/1x9dsrTZBi-UNF0cpkkZw4PGClN48nTDSifzAQ2jKcF8/viewform

Yamil, Kathy and I will be compiling the data for discussion during the
October 2, 2014 Evergreen for Academics meeting. (3:00 on your local IRC
channel). The results will also be posted on the list and the wiki:
 http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=evergreen_for_academics

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Reminder: Evergreen for Academics - IRC Meeting, Today Aug 14 3:00 EST

2014-08-14 Thread Kelly Drake
The first meeting of Evergreen for Academics will be held Today! Thursday,
August 14, at 3:00 in the #evergreen IRC channel.

Agenda:

a. Introductions

b. Review the Evergreen for Academics Areas of Interest wiki page (
http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=evergreen_for_academics). Goal:
put the areas into a matrix of 1) who’s interested, 2) difficulty of each
area – easy to hard, and 3) current state of any existing development or
projects for these areas.

c. Plan for next steps – meeting schedule, etc.

If you would like information on how to use IRC please review the quick
start guide -
http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=community:irc-quick-start. To
view a presentation on IRC for EG, go to: goo.gl/w3zml2. This presentation
was created by Yamil Suarez and explains how you can just use a standard
web browser
to use IRC. Please feel free to contact Yamil (ysua...@berklee.edu) before
the meeting (or after) if you have questions about how to connect to IRC.

It's important that everyone who wants to attend, can.

Meetbot will also be 'taking' minutes and a log of the session will be
available for those not able to attend. Kathy Lussier will be managing the
meetbot session.

 Yeah Kelly!

Just off the top of my head, here are some areas that I would like to see

 Acquisitions: Order Types.
Types like firm orders, periodical renewals, standing orders for
monographic series, blanket orders, multi-part monographs

 Acquisitions: EDI periodical renewals.

We would really like to see electronic invoicing and ordering work for our
 EBSCO subscriptions.

 PAC: Academic flavor.

It might be nice to offer a different look to the PAC that defaults to a
 fuller bibliographic description.

 PAC: Federated searching

I would love to not have to spend many thousands of dollars annually, for
 EBSCO Discover.

 Cataloging: Volumes

The way that volume numbering is treated in Evergreen needs to be
revisited in the light of publications that have Fascicles/Volumes/Parts
that need to be reflected on a single call number.

 Reports:

Out of the box reports that deal with the specific kinds of statistics
 required by Accrediting Agencies.

 Welcome Aboard!

Hi Gordana,

Hopefully this wasn't too presumptuous on my part but I added your patron
upload info as a note to the EFA page. It's a really important option that
shouldn't be forgotten. Also, having the possibility of an easy solution
to one of the issues, may get us around to tackling it sooner than later?

Hi Martha and other interested academic libraries,

When we went up with Evergreen in 2010, we contracted with Alpha G for a
daily patron information import program to work between Evergreen and
PeopleSoft. Unfortunately, they weren't in a position to make it open
source. But I wonder if it's something that many institutions are
interested in, that they would be willing to work with the libraries to
create a piece based on what they did that would be freely available with
Evergreen? We import patron info nightly and it's pretty much seamless. I
don't really worry about it and am happy with what it does.

I'm sorry if I'm not describing it well. I'm not overly technical. :-)

 Hi Kelly,
Another item to add to the list of issues is support for patron record
loading. We have developed scripts to load new and update on-file records,
but a user-friendly interface similar to vandelay would streamline the
process. Some of our college staff would also like to manage record
 loading themselves.

We load student records frequently. Some colleges provide one file at the
beginning of each semester, but our community colleges provide weekly files
for several weeks before and after the start of each semester. I load
300-400 files each year for the 10 academic institutions in our consortium.
