We run Envisonware’s PCReservation and LptOne currently on all of our public
machines running Windows 7 both 32bit and 64bit. Would not run anything else.
Like the integration with Evergreen, and the integration between the two
products. We are currently looking at adding their Wireless Print on Demand
functionality to our Main library.

Out of courisity, what features does Envisionware have that CASSIE doesn't?

I'm at the Evergreen conference this week, then on vacation for a bit. If you
can wait, my brain will work better when I'm... at work. I can get you all the
differences between CASSIE and Envisionware that I've noticed, and really
missed. I literally can not think of one thing right now! Ahh, jet lag brain.

We have several libraries running CASSIE ( http :// www . librarica .com) which
does PC reservations, print management, etc. It also does a fairly good job of
tracking user statistics ( ie : wait time, average session length, etc).
The biggest issue that we have run into is if you are running Windows 7x64
public machines, the computer sharing the printers needs to run Windows 7 as
well or printers wont install due to a lack of drivers and no way to manually
specify drivers.

We also use CASSIE and haven't had any issues with it. We haven't tried their
wireless service yet (SPOT). Right now we don't allow direct wireless printing.

The price for CASSIE is very reasonable for a smaller or more cash-strapped
library, and the interface is really simple for staff.

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] PC reservation systems

2014-03-19 Thread Joe
I can give a plus 1 to what Buzzy said about Libki and papercut. We are
currently using libki and a home grown solution built on top of CUPS. I
have played with papercut and plan to migrate us to that at some point.
I would recommend both to anyone looking to make a change.

The one caution I would give about Libki is that the integration with
Evergreen did not work out of the box for us.
I had a volunteer working with me on the latest version, and he had to
rewrite a portion of the code for libki, switching from socket
connections to a telnet connection for the SIP2 back to Evergreen. I
don't know if that's because of how our Evergreen is configured or an
incompatibility with how SIP2 was written into Libki.

That said, if you go with libki and the stock server does not work, he
has created a fork of the libki-server that works with evergreen at
https://bitbucket.org/bak688/libki-server-sipviatelnet .

Also, I can give a plus 1 to avoiding PCCop. We migrated away from it
to libki a few years ago when Libki was much rougher and less feature
rich than it is today and we'd have been happy with that decision even
if Libki had cost money.

Best of luck.
