Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] Anyone using OpenIndiana in production?
Hi Ian, I actually looked at SmartOS, but it seems to be going in the cloud direction. I was looking for a base to build an intranet vdi solution on. Thanks for the pointer though. It may not be an appropriate answer on this list, but SmartOS looks like a better fit if you want a platform focused around KVM support. -- Ian. ___ OpenIndiana-discuss mailing list OpenIndiana-discuss@openindiana.org http://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/openindiana-discuss ___ OpenIndiana-discuss mailing list OpenIndiana-discuss@openindiana.org http://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/openindiana-discuss
Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] Anyone using OpenIndiana in production?
Hi Ian, I've been doing the virtualization thing for a long time (since before it was cool). During that time, I have found what works best for me. I don't mean to criticize, but it lacks the perspective of someone who deals with maintaining a virtual environment on a daily basis. I was planning to port something that is already running on Linux to OpenIndiana. That being said, I would be glad to discuss it further with you, if you're interested. Hi Ian, Sorry. It was quite late when I sent the reply. I was addressing your reference to SmartOS. Hi Udo, That's very encouraging! Do you mind if I ask what you are running on them? Hi Udo, That's very interesting information. Are the machines running the latest build? What do you use for the network (ie; infiniband, 10gbe)? Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] Anyone using OpenIndiana in production?
Hi Udo, Very cool! I could probably go on forever with questions, but you have given me more than sufficient inspiration to continue with my project. Thanks for taking the time to answer my query. It is very much appreciated. Thanks for the link also. BTW: I've been running a fairly intensive genetic algorithm search on 4 nodes with Linux virtual machines for a couple of weeks now. No errors of any kind as of yet. All of them 1Gbe, 10Gbe, and Infiniband (although this is still in experimental state due to lack of time, but it seems to work). All running on OI151a7, we started with a2, which was also very stable. Plus 21 full Gnome desktops with all fancy bells and whistles, all cloned from a single machine across servers and blades and different workstations (Sun,Dell, Fujitsu/Siemens), see my recent post how to (roughly) do that: http://openindiana.org/pipermail/openindiana-discuss/2013-March/012076.html ___ OpenIndiana-discuss mailing list OpenIndiana-discuss@openindiana.org http://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/openindiana-discuss
