Unless i'm mistaken, Illumos/OI is already able to use full disk encryption by
using lofiadm. This is not a very ZFS on-disk encryption, but a block device encryption with a ZFS pool created on top of that. So, if Illumos/Linux/BSD has a block device encryption support (lofiadm, GELI and LUKS provide that) you can create a ZFS pool on top of an encrypted device.
