pkg goes through the usual gyrations of making a plan, etc and then says no updates are
needed. Running "find / -name '*office*' " does not find an executable.

Per pkg(1) 'info' command works only for installed packages. If the
package is missing (which is what `pkg` is saying here), one has to add
'-r' option:

{global} newman@lenovo:~ $ pkg info -r openoffice
  Name: desktop/office/openoffice
 State: Not installed (Obsolete)
 Publisher: openindiana.org
   Version: 4.1.2

  FMRI:
pkg://openindiana.org/desktop/office/openoffice@4.1.2-2016.0.1.0:20180705T215200Z

Also, note the 'State' field.

If you look at the package metadata for hipster, it contains the following:

set name=pkg.fmri
value=pkg://openindiana.org/desktop/office/openoffice@4.1.2,5.11-2016.0.1.0:20180705T215200Z
set name=pkg.obsolete value=true
set name=org.opensolaris.consolidation value=userland

That's it. It's an empty, obsolete package.

If you're after LibreOffice, then a look at

http://sfe.opencsw.org/libreoffice52-quick-install

may be of assistance.

The current AOO version is affected by this issue. OpenOffice normally
works with MS Office formats, but can't create new ODF files. Strangely
enough, it can edit existing ODF files.

Who knows ASF plans for Solaris11/Openindiana  Aoo binaries ?

There was an extensive discussion on this list in January [1] about
renewing a Solaris/OpenIndiana build of LibreOffice. Why do you want
OpenOffice specifically?
It was then decided that the proper place to discuss the topic would
be the LibreOffice devel mailing list [2]. I didn't follow that
thread, so don't know if any native build came out of it (I know
someone tested that the Windows build + wine appears to run).

Hi,

somebody built Aoo 3.4 beta few months back for Solaris/x86 (it was
published on Apache web). So it is doable, it only needs somebody to do
that.

Best regards,

The correct approach is for OpenIndiana to offer both LibreOffice and
OpenOffice. Both of them will have their merits. Perhaps one will
ultimately prevail or perhaps both will continue to be worthy
projects.

Apache OpenOffice does seem to have a large development team and has
already added significant improvements. LibreOffice has been shipping
in some Linux distributions for a while.

Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] OpenOffice come back with 3.4 release

2012-05-09 Thread Jonathan Adams
In January, I got quite a way through the compilation procedure for
LibreOffice (using gcc) but got stuck compiling the dictionaries, with
possible errors in gcc causing some trouble,

I re-got the code from git last month, and the newer version of the
code now compiles the dictionaries, but I cannot correctly compile the
tools section ...

If I have more time, in the future, I will try and tweak it again to
get it to compile ... but it's not going to be very soon.

Sorry, I meant to say I could uninstall 12u1 and install 12 (aka 5.9)

you could also try patching the configure script to add 5.10 to the list of

Yeah, that worked. I forgot that I had to do something similar to
bypass the failed check for GNU ld. Now I'm having issues with dmake
but that's a bit more complicated. I see that the config script looks
for sstudio's dmake and offers to build its own version but that's as
far as I've made it so far...

That's interesting. OpenOffice is in http://pkg.openindiana.org/legacy/,
but there it's at 3.1.0, whereas the one at openoffice.org is at 3.3.0.

Given that the effort to port LibreOffice to OpenIndiana has stalled, OI
should provide OpenOffice 3.3.0 (modified to fix the problem you ran
into) in an IPS repo.

I have heard bad things about LibreOffice. OI probably shouldn't bother
with LibreOffice until it gets more manpower.
