A: The kernel module in upstream Linux 3.3 and later does not include the following features: - Bridge compatibility, that is, support for the ovs-brcompatd daemon that (if you enable it) lets brctl and other Linux bridge tools transparently work with Open vSwitch instead. We do not expect bridge compatibility to ever be available in upstream Linux. If you need bridge compatibility, use the kernel module from the Open vSwitch distribution instead of the upstream Linux kernel module. - Tunnel virtual ports, that is, interfaces with type gre, ipsec_gre, capwap. It is possible to create tunnels in Linux and attach them to Open vSwitch as system devices. However, they cannot be dynamically created through the OVSDB protocol or set the tunnel ids as a flow action. Work is in progress in adding these features to the upstream Linux version of the Open vSwitch kernel module. For now, if you need these features, use the kernel module from the Open vSwitch distribution instead of the upstream Linux kernel module. - Patch virtual ports, that is, interfaces with type patch. You can use Linux veth devices as a substitute. We don't have any plans to add patch ports upstream. You can run your swift cluster with 2 replicas. This is set when the ring is first created. You can use `swift-ring-builder` (ie with no arguments) to get usage help. Note that there is not (yet) an easy way to change your replica count once the ring has been created. If you have more than one drive for swift in each of your two machines, you can make three replicas. Swift will ensure that the two replicas on one machine are on different drives. --John On Nov 19, 2012, at 10:19 AM, Emilio García emilio.gar...@cloudreach.co.uk wrote: Good day everyone, I want to set up a PoC for Swift. [Openstack] [nova-network] question about log messages in nova-network.log
Hello, I have two node OpenStack setup, one controller-node (hostname: bodega) and one compute-node (hostname: sonoma). I am running nova-network in a single host mode, nova-network running on controller-node only. During the creation of a VM instance I am running into an error due to RPC message timeout. I see numerous log messages that seem to raise red flags (for me). 1. Why is nova-network allocating floating IP address when I did not set it as such in nova.conf file: 2012-11-18 15:50:29 DEBUG nova.network.manager [req-f2b4df1f-6c29-48dc-991b-93fb5eb29d08 ce016bb05df949ebbafcc7c165359d7c ce1e819636744dc680fa5515f6475e87] [instance: 4e80964e-5bd1-4df4-a517-223c79d55517] floating IP allocation for instance |%s| from (pid=1375) allocate_for_instance /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/nova/network/manager.py:315 2012-11-18 15:50:29 DEBUG nova.network.manager [req-f2b4df1f-6c29-48dc-991b-93fb5eb29d08 ce016bb05df949ebbafcc7c165359d7c ce1e819636744dc680fa5515f6475e87] [instance: 4e80964e-5bd1-4df4-a517-223c79d55517] network allocations from (pid=1375) allocate_for_instance /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/nova/network/manager.py:977 2012-11-18 15:50:29 DEBUG nova.network.manager [req-f2b4df1f-6c29-48dc-991b-93fb5eb29d08 ce016bb05df949ebbafcc7c165359d7c ce1e819636744dc680fa5515f6475e87] [instance: 4e80964e-5bd1-4df4-a517-223c79d55517] networks retrieved for instance: |[nova.db.sqlalchemy.models.Network object at 0x47f1d10]| from (pid=1375) allocate_for_instance /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/nova/network/manager.py:982 2. Re: [Openstack] Networking issues for openstack on XCP
have even more trouble setting up quantum itself. The plugin support in XCP looks not as good as KVM: the first problem is python 2.6 and it's solved by adding new repository. But when I installed the openvswitch agent, it can not start, requiring some quantum python module, which then seems have dependency on libudev. And this means I have to update almost the whole dom0, including libc, udev, and blablabla to get that library. That's too risky. Maybe I shall stay with bridge plugin and see if things can be a little better... But, these tenant VMs are not inaccessible from any other machines. Is that normal (ie. a private network per physical node? The created tenant VMs can access external machines, but they are invisible to other machines? I want to use eth0 for public traffic and service request, and eth1 for inter-vm traffic. My questions: 1.) does each domU need nova-network running? My understanding is it's OK to run nova-network individually, but then how to mange the floating IP globally? 2.) in document for flatdhcp network, I saw four interfaces for each management domU. Is it OK to have only two interfaces? Say, eth0-xenbr0 for public IP and services, and eth1-xenbr1 for VM network? 3.) Is the network isolation rules a must for test install? I found the patch to vif is still for xenserver 5.6_p2, and can not be applied to vif of xcp 1.6 or xenserver 6.1, which might be a trouble.
