Re: [Openstack] Suggestions for shared-storage cluster file system

2013-02-18 Thread Sebastien HAN
I haven't played that much with Glusterfs and pacemaker but I'm pretty sure
that there is already a resource agent for this. Maybe the Filesystem RA can do
it but you probably might have a look at the upstream version on the Cluster
Lab Github.

Cheers

I think I will go with GlusterFS. MooseFS looks interesting, but
maintaining a package outside the repo/cloud archive is not something I want
 to deal with.

Along the same lines... is it possible to mount a GlusterFS volume in
pacemaker? I have tried both ocf:heartbeat:Filesystem and
ocf:redhat:netfs.sh without much luck. I have managed to get the service
 started with upstart though.

It's just like NFS, if you mount an NFS export on the NFS server, you get
 kernel locks.

Unfortunately even if love Ceph far more than the other, I won't go with
CephFS, at least not know. But if are in a hurry and looking for a DFS then
GlusterFS seems to be a good candidate. NFS works pretty well too.

Re: [Openstack] question regarding nova-compute

2013-02-18 Thread JuanFra Rodriguez Cardoso
Hi:

It seems a problem with dnsmasq. Ensure on compute hosts:
chown -R nova:nova /var/lib/nova and
/var/lib/nova/networks/nova-YOUR_BRIDGE{.conf, .pid} have mode 644.
After that, issue: killall dnsmasq and then restart nova-network service.

Hope it's useful!

 Hi Tam,

I am new to openstack. i have setup a two node openstack setup in my lab.
I have some questions on the networking part which mentioned below. Please
 help.

I am using ubuntu server 12.10.
I am using the flatmanager option, as both of my nodes have only single
 nic.
first node is running all the services except the nova compute.
only nova compute is running on the second node.
I have cretated br100 on both the nodes and bridged to em1.
I have one DHCP running external on the same network.
 All went good.

The problem i can see is my VM's are getting ip from the external DHCP
server, but the Horizon UI is showing different ip. please let me know if
 anymore info required.

 Regards,
 Arumon

[Openstack] Doubt with apt-get

2013-02-18 Thread Guilherme Russi
Hello guys,

I got a message from my Ubuntu Server 12.04 about upgrade somethings, the
upgrades include Linux Headers and some upgrades for openstack's
components. My question is, if I apply the upgrades, my openstack system
can break off?

Thank you.

 - put your computer in the same subnet as your controller (

[Openstack] API Key Generation

2013-02-18 Thread Julian Learmonth
Hello,

I've very new to OpenStack (3 days) so this could be a simple issue. I'm
trying to generate an API key for Veeam Backup Cloud Edition to use a demo
instance of DevStack. I'm using the following command line on the machine
with DevStack installed:

curl -d '{passwordCredentials: {username: admin, password:
redacted}}' -H Content-type: application/json
http://localhost:5000/v2.0/tokens

I got the above command line from here:
http://docs.openstack.org/api/openstack-compute/programmer/content/getting-the-authentication-token.html

And I am getting this error message when I run the command (using the
correct password):

{error: {message: authenticate() got an unexpected keyword argument
'passwordCredentials', code: 400, title: Bad Request}}

Any idea what I am doing wrong? Is there another way to generate an API key?

I am using OpenStack Folsom (DevStack) on Ubuntu 12.10.

Any help appreciated!

Regards,
Julian.

Re: [Openstack] HA Openstack with Pacemaker

2013-02-18 Thread Samuel Winchenbach
Any idea why calling keystone from test1 always gets routed to test2
and calling it from test2 requests always get routed to test1? It
wouldn't be a big deal but if I manually stop keystone on one of the hosts
then requests from the other fail.

Thanks,
Sam

Good to hear that you finally managed to get it working. Usually the

Well I got it to work. I was being stupid, and forgot to change over the

One thing I find interesting is that if I call keystone user-list from
test1 it _always_ sends the request to test2 and vice versa.

Also I did not need to add the POSTROUTING rule... I am not sure why.

[Openstack] keystone middleware

2013-02-18 Thread pat
Hello,

Sorry to disturb, but I have some questions regarding keystone middleware.

Some introduction to problem: I need to integrate OpenStack to our existing
infrastructure where all systems are integrated on REST and Web level using
SSO-like system (there's generated a token string with specific information).
Required behavior is to allow users log-in once in existing infrastructure and
without additional log-in access OpenStack components.

I assume this is possible by implementing custom keystone drivers for identity
and token. Is that correct?
Should I also implement new policy and/or catalog driver?

If this is possible I expect the keystone token is the token generated by my
middleware driver(s) and such token is used by all other OpenStack parts. Is
that correct?
Does this affect way how the OpenStack internally validates token? Now when
validating token the admin token has to be passed to validation request too. I
expect not.

Is there possible to chain more keystone authentication drivers? E.g. first
check my custom and if this one fails then check SQL one.

I've searched internet to find some example of keystone middleware, but I
didn't succeed :-\ Is there an example or step by step documentation
(something for an ... :-))? I've read Middleware Architecture documentation
and my questions are based on this.

Thanks a lot for your help.

 Pat

Hi Pat

sounds like you need our federation software which was designed
specifically for this use case. We currently support SAML as the SSO
protocol, and have just added Keystone to Keystone SSO. I have also
written a blueprint to show how OAuthv2 and OpenConnect can be used by
writing custom plugin modules. So if you have your own proprietary SSO
protocol you can write plugin modules for this

Kristy can let you Pat have an alpha version for testing if he wants it.

[Openstack] Images are not shown up for some tenants in Horizon

2013-02-18 Thread Andrii Loshkovskyi
Hello,

I have a few tenants and several images listed in Horizon. Strange, but
some images are not shown up in one tenant. I've checked everything I
could: users, roles, permissions, etc. I store images in Swift. I am able
to list all images using the nova and glance command line tools or create
VMs from those images and view them in Horizon.

I know that you won't be checking my configuration. What I am trying to
understand is how Horizon builds the images list. From the nova-registy
debug log, it seems to be an SQL query which is a really large one.

Could someone please point me out which function or SQL query in the
Horizon code is responsible for building the images list? How does this
feature work?

I installed Horizon from the Ubuntu 12.04 repositories and its verision is:
2012.1-0ubuntu8

I would be greatful for any help. Thank you.

[Openstack] [Quantum/OVS] Br-int not responsive after network node reboot

2013-02-18 Thread Sylvain Bauza

Hi,

I'll try to be clear. I do follow a classic setup for Quantum with 2
NICs and a GRE tunnel in between nodes with br-int/br-tun.

Everything is fine at first install, but when rebooting the network node
(including quantum-ovs-plugin-agent, quantum-l3-agent and
quantum-dhcp-agent), I notice that DHCP assignation is failing for my VMs.
A tcpdump shows at physical level that GRE packets are arriving on eth0
(mgmt NIC) on network node (for DHCP request) but no reply is done by
the network node.

The workaround I found is to delete br-int and br-tun on network node,
create only br-int and restart both services
(quantum-{ovs-plugin,l3,dhcp} ) to get things done.

This is quite brutal. Do you know if it's a known bug, or something bad
with my setup ?

Thanks,
-Sylvain

Re: [Openstack] Horizon Keystone Nova miscommunication

2013-02-18 Thread Alex Vitola
reinstalled my environment this week and I have the same problem

I believe the error is in the horizon, as it only happens with

2013/2/17 Gabriel Hurley gabriel.hur...@nebula.com:
That particular “endpoint not found” log message is a red herring. It’s been
removed in keystoneclient trunk because it was logging an *expected* error.
There isn’t supposed to be a service catalog available at the point at which
it logged that message, and it lead to confusion just like this.

However, as for your actual problem, I’ve got a couple broad ideas:

Since you’re able to log in that means Keystone is working. And since you’re
not seeing any error messages indicating that the data couldn’t be retrieved
from Nova, that means Nova is working and is truly believes that the tenant
you’re requesting data for has no instances, etc.

What that sounds like to me is that you’re creating things in Nova with one
tenant, and then looking for them in Horizon with a different tenant. The
easiest way to check for that would be to log into horizon with a user who
has the “admin” role on a project, navigate to the Instances panel in the
Admin dashboard, and see if you can see the missing instances there. The
admin instances panel shows *all* running instances across all tenants, so
if the instances exist and Nova is returning data then they’ll show up
 there.

The other (much less likely) possibility is that you somehow have two Nova
services running which are unaware of each other, and you’re managing to
talk to different ones via the client vs. Horizon. I have to think you’d
know if you were running two Nova’s, however.

The last option would be that Keystone’s service catalog is misconfigured
and you’re not actually communicating with Nova, but if that were the case
you should be seeing errors all over the place, so I find that highly
 unlikely.

 Hope something there helps.

Subject: [Openstack] Horizon Keystone Nova miscommunication

It seems that nova and horizon are not communicating on my controller node.
Acces and security objects created with nova are not seen by Horizon and
vice versa. This includes key pairs and secgroup rules. For example, if I
create a keypair with the nova client, it isn't visible in horizon, and if I
create one in horizon it is not visible via the nova client.

Possibly related: VMs that I create, whether via the nova client or Horizon,
are not shown with I run nova list. The nova-api.log shows a successful
servers-detail query, but it comes back empty.

Also possibly related: Although I have all my services and endpoints
configured correctly, I can't get individual endpoint detail with
endpoint-get. What's more, I see this error in Horizon's error log:

[Sun Feb 17 07:02:50 2013] [error] EndpointNotFound: Endpoint not found.

[Sun Feb 17 07:06:55 2013] [error] unable to retrieve service catalog with
 token

This matches what I get when I run:

 $ keystone endpoint-get --service nova

 Endpoint not found.

But that can't be because endpoint-list shows all six endpoints I created
and all the information seems correct in the database:

[Openstack] Problems with drbd + pacemaker in HA

2013-02-18 Thread Samuel Winchenbach
Hi All,

I recently switched from CentOS 6.3 to Ubuntu LTS server and have started
encountering some really odd problems with drbd and pacemaker. everything
seems to work well until I stop a resource or migrate itl at which point
drbd either becomes Diskless or Unconfigured. I am not sure what is
happening but I never had this problem in CentOS.

pacemaker configuration: http://paste2.org/p/2905943
drbd configuration: http://paste2.org/p/2905965

syslog output: http://paste2.org/p/2905988
drbd state problems: http://paste2.org/p/2905951

If someone could take a quick look at this I would be very grateful, I have
been fighting this for a couple days now.

Thanks,
Sam

Re: [Openstack] keystone middleware

2013-02-18 Thread Dolph Mathews
On Mon, Feb 18, 2013 at 9:59 AM, pat p...@xvalheru.org wrote:

 Hello,

Sorry to disturb, but I have some questions regarding keystone middleware.

Some introduction to problem: I need to integrate OpenStack to our existing
infrastructure where all systems are integrated on REST and Web level using
SSO-like system (there's generated a token string with specific
 information).
Required behavior is to allow users log-in once in existing infrastructure
 and
without additional log-in access OpenStack components.

I assume this is something completely proprietary then?

I assume this is possible by implementing custom keystone drivers for
 identity
 and token. Is that correct?
Should I also implement new policy and/or catalog driver?

If you're looking at folsom, you should only need to implement identity,
nothing more. You could even extend one of the existing drives (e.g. SQL)
and only implement certain methods.

In grizzly, we're also introducing pluggable authentication drivers that do
nothing more than authenticate users, which is probably more in line with
what you're looking for. Your driver could simply authenticate with your
existing system, and then create/update a user in keystone's SQL backend,
for example. We're providing password authentication out of the box at the
API level [1], but you could even implement your own authentication at the
API level (you'll need corresponding client-side support as well).

[1]:
https://github.com/openstack/identity-api/blob/master/openstack-identity-api/src/markdown/identity-api-v3.md#the-password-authentication-method

If this is possible I expect the keystone token is the token generated by
 my
middleware driver(s) and such token is used by all other OpenStack parts.
 Is
 that correct?

You actually won't need to write any middleware. Rather, keystone is
designed to abstract existing, external authentication systems from
OpenStack's internal approach to auth (tokens). By writing a driver in
keystone, you're just redefining that abstraction.

Does this affect way how the OpenStack internally validates token? Now when
validating token the admin token has to be passed to validation request
 too. I
 expect not.

Your expectations are correct.

Is there possible to chain more keystone authentication drivers? E.g. first
check my custom and if this one fails then check SQL one.

We don't have that today (even with pluggable authentication). This is
something I'd like to see implemented... I think it'd be trivial to extend
our keystone.conf definitions for authentication method drivers to simply
be a prioritized list that keystone could query in order, until a driver
authenticates successfully (e.g. keystone's built-in password driver first,
then your own driver).

I've searched internet to find some example of keystone middleware, but I
didn't succeed :-\ Is there an example or step by step documentation
(something for an ... :-))? I've read Middleware Architecture
 documentation
and my questions are based on this.

That's the best documentation I'm aware of for the middleware architecture,
other than reading the source code of keystoneclient.middleware.auth_token
itself.

Thanks a lot for your help.

[Openstack] [Nova] Question about multi-scheduler

Hi all,

Is there anyone has used the multi-scheduler property, is there any problem?
Can we use this property into production environment?

Thanks!

Re: [Openstack] [Nova] Question about multi-scheduler

2013-02-18 Thread Huang Zhiteng
Multi-scheduler was there for the days when Nova has to deal with both
request for instance and volume. If you are using a version of Nova
which still has nova-volume, I think multi-scheduler is a must. And
there are two sub config option for Nova:
http://docs.openstack.org/folsom/openstack-compute/admin/content/ch_scheduling.html
scheduler_driver=nova.scheduler.multi.MultiScheduler
volume_scheduler_driver=nova.scheduler.chance.ChanceScheduler
compute_scheduler_driver=nova.scheduler.filter_scheduler.FilterScheduler

But if you are using trunk version Nova, scheduler_driver should use
'nova.scheduler.filter_scheduler.FilterScheduler' directly.

Re: [Openstack] [Nova] Question about multi-scheduler

2013-02-18 Thread Huang Zhiteng
Oh, I got it. I remember in last conference, Ryan Richard's
'consideration for building an openstack private cloud' mentioned
using more than one scheduler instances to do HA when the cluster
becomes large (this is not in his slides where you can find on
slideshare.net but he orally mentioned it). But he also mentioned
that adding more scheduler instances didn't help reducing processing
time, which I suspect it won't reduce processing time for single
request but it surely increase the concurrency of scheduler so should
be helpful for large number of requests use case.

Are you referring to certain new feature of Nova when saying 'multi
scheduler property' or just referring to any method that running
multiple nova scheduler instances?

For latter, I think this is surely doable and someone out there has
been using this kind of technique (in production I guess).

Re: [Openstack] l3-agent : EndpointNotFound

2013-02-18 Thread Tomokazu Hirai
Hi,

I settled this problem. it is misconfiguration in
l3-agent.ini.

2012.2.1 packages have more strong error handling code than 2012.2
packages. I found these lines in
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/quantumclient/client.py

code:
endpoints = service['endpoints']
for endpoint in endpoints:
if not filter_value or endpoint.get(attr) ==
filter_value:
matching_endpoints.append(endpoint)

if not matching_endpoints:
raise exceptions.EndpointNotFound()
elif len(matching_endpoints) 1:
raise
exceptions.AmbiguousEndpoints(message=matching_endpoints)
else:
return matching_endpoints[0][endpoint_type]

I setuped different region name in /etc/quantum/l3-agent.ini with
other configuration files. Today, I setuped same region name with
other configuration files, I could build openstack folsom. :D

Thanks and Sorry.

Re: [Openstack] [Nova] Question about multi-scheduler

2013-02-18 Thread Wangpan
Thanks zhiteng!
I'm referring to HA of nova-scheduler by deploying multiple of it to several
hosts.

 Hi Zhiteng,

May what I said in the last mail is confused,
What I want to ask is that, can we use more than one nova-scheduler service
in one cluster? is it stable enough to be used in the production
 environment?
Because I want to make the availability of scheduler service higher.

 thanks!

Multi-scheduler was there for the days when Nova has to deal with both
request for instance and volume. If you are using a version of Nova
which still has nova-volume, I think multi-scheduler is a must. And
there are two sub config option for Nova:
 http://docs.openstack.org/folsom/openstack-compute/admin/content/ch_scheduling.html

 scheduler_driver=nova.scheduler.multi.MultiScheduler
 volume_scheduler_driver=nova.scheduler.chance.ChanceScheduler
 compute_scheduler_driver=nova.scheduler.filter_scheduler.FilterScheduler

But if you are using trunk version Nova, scheduler_driver should use
 'nova.scheduler.filter_scheduler.FilterScheduler' directly.

 Hi all,

Is there anyone has used the multi-scheduler property, is there any

Can we use this property into production environment?

[Openstack] external dhcp server instead of dnsmasq

2013-02-18 Thread Ritesh Nanda
Hello ,

Is it possible to use external dhcp server , instead of dnsmasq .
I am using openstack essex, with vlan manager as network, I have a need
where i need to implement dynamic dns,
so using dhcp3 as dhcp-server and bind9 as dns is possible.

Or is there any way in openstack i can implement dynamic dns in openstack.

One more problem which i am facing , dnsmasq has a option to assign static
ip to a particular hostname using dhcp-host
parameter in dnsmasq config file.

i tried it doing by defining the config file of dnsmasq in nova.conf

--dnsmasq_config_file=/etc/nova/dnsmasq.conf

then in dnsmasq config file

i gave options for a particular subnet.

dhcp-range=Tenant-operator,10.0.50.3,10.0.50.254,255.255.255.0,24h
dhcp-option=Tenant-operator,6,10.0.50.7
domain=operator.com,10.0.50.0/24,local
dhcp-host=importantmachine,10.0.50.120

these all options are working except dhcp-host.

Can anybody help me with this.
