Re: [Openstack] Grizly - Quantum - Openvswitch : routeur and L3-agent

2013-05-16 Thread Robert van Leeuwen
 I'm actually using centos 6.4 with openstack rdo repo
 I'd like to use quantum with openvswitch in a GRE tunnel setup.
We are using the same thing. Good news: it works :)
Note that the openvswitch included in Centos 6.4 does not support GRE.
You will need to build your own openvswitch kernel module from upstream.

 # quantum l3-agent-router-add 1e4208c5-3615-488b-bfa9-56fbb512d2f9
 9fbb0569-7e7b-4b47-8096-4f5e2f981c3b
 return : Agent 1e4208c5-3615-488b-bfa9-56fbb512d2f9 is not a L3 Agent or has
 been disabled
Since you won't be using namespaces (not supported on CentOS 6.4, set
use_namespaces = False in l3-agent.ini )
you must set the router-id of the router you want to run in the l3_agent.ini.

If you set the quantum server to debug you should see something referring to
this when you start the l3-agent.

Cheers,
Robert van Leeuwen

Re: [Openstack] Grizzly on Laptop running Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop 64-bit and having 2 NICs (one Ethernet and other Wireless)

2013-05-16 Thread Devendra Gupta
Thanks! Phil. Yes, It's a test environment. Actually I wanted to walk
through the installation steps to gain understanding of the setup. I
have already tried running DevStack on Ubuntu VM using VirtualBox.

Though my purpose is to go through installing all OpenStack components
manually (without using script) still the Redhat RDO looks pretty
interesting to me, so thanks for sharing it.

 Given this node is your laptop, I assume the OpenStack environment is for

 If that is the case, have you considered running a VM? (using Virtual Box
 for example) You can add virtual
 NICs to VMs for testing.

 Something like RDO on top of CentOS or Fedora would get you going quickly.
 There's also DevStack for Ubuntu.

Re: [Openstack] [Openstack-translation] Import professional translations

2013-05-16 Thread Stephane EVEILLARD
Hi

I believe option #1 is the best option, as already said
No contribution, especially from professionnal translatord
can be ignored

2013/5/15 Ying Chun Guo guoyi...@cn.ibm.com

 Hi,

 My company, IBM, has finished the translation of messages in Nova, Glance,
 Keystone, Quantum and Cinder
 to 9 languages (de, es, fr, it, ja, ko, pt_BR, zh_CN, zh_TW) for Grizzly,
 by outsourcing to professional
 translators. We tend to contribute these translations to community.

 Some volunteers have done part of the translations in Transifex. The
 average completion percentage among all
 these 9 languages is below 20%. If we can merge these professional
 translations into Transifex, we can improve
 the completion percentage to a very high number.

 In my mind, there are several ways to import professional translation to
 Transifex:

 1. Merge the professional version of po files and community version, using
 the professional version when conflicting.
 2. Merge the community version of po files and professional version, using
 the community version when conflicting.
 3. Import the professional translations as translation memory, thus the
 professional translations will appear
 as suggestion while volunteers do the translation in Transifex.

 I prefer the first one, because it can improve the percentage of
 translation completion very quickly,
 while the third one needs some time for volunteers to review the strings
 one by one. What's more, the quality of
 professional version should be better.

 I'm going to start this work. If you have any different opinions, please
 let me know.

 Regards
 Ying Chun Guo (Daisy)

Title: Nova fails to verify image virtual size
Reporter: Loganathan Parthipan
Products: Nova
Affects: All versions

Description:
Loganathan Parthipan publicly reported a vulnerability in Nova. Nova
did not implement checking for the virtual size of a qcow2 image used
as ephemeral storage for instances. It is therefore possible for a
user to create an image which has a large virtual size, but little
data. Once the instance is created, the user can then proceed to fill
the virtual disk, and consume all available disk on the host node file
system.

Re: [Openstack] [Grizzly] NoneType object unsubscriptable while setting up keystone

2013-05-16 Thread Daniel
I've found a similar error in the bug database, but it's not
keystone-related.

The only environment variables I have are :
- OS_SERVICE_ENDPOINT=http://10.101.149.22:35357/v2.0
- OS_SERVICE_TOKEN=e004f43a48034a11

I initially thought it might be related to the kickstart template I am
using, but I've had the very same problem with :

- RHEL 6.4 server using our kickstart template
- CentOS 6.4 using our kickstart template
- CentOS 6.4 installed from DVD, no template

Could it be a problem with the keystone version currently available in
the RedHat Openstack repo at
http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/openstack/openstack-grizzly/epel-6/
?

I'll try and install an Ubuntu 12.04 to compare the behaviour.

Regards,

   Daniel

After that point, keystone commands return the following error :

commands work at least in part, since I can see a user directly in the
MySQL database after running a keystone user-create command, but I
still can't list them :

# keystone user-list
'NoneType' object is unsubscriptable

The only changes I've made to the keystone.conf file apart from the
log configuration are the connection and admin_token parameters. The
mysql connection works correctly from the command line, and it would
seem it works for the keystone utility as well since the database is
populated.

I've also found nothing remarkable in the keystone log file.

As a side note, trying to install a full Openstack environment with
the packstack utility failed with the same error.

Where should I look to get more info on that error?

Thanks in advance,

Daniel.

Re: [Openstack] Vmware running images

2013-05-16 Thread Marcos Antônio Cavenaghi
You have to pick up the image.vmdk file and add it using glance.
The syntax here depends on the version (essex, folsom, ...) you are using.

glance add name=My VMware Image is_public=true container_format=bare
disk_format=vmdk  My_VMware_Image.vmdk

If you have more than one vmdk file (the image is split), use qemu-img to
convert them to a single file.

So, a couple of points:

* when OpenStack manages a VM it does so, cradle to grave

* it sounds like you want to manage existing vSphere inventory and
that's not a supported use case remember: cradle-to-grave in one stack or the
other.
* at the moment sharing part of your vSphere resources (say a resource
pool) with OpenStack is possible but not documented someone needs to write that
doc (and perhaps submit code)
*
use thick (-flat.vmdk) provisioned VMDK with glance at the moment (we notice
problems using 'thin' in some setups) * official docs
http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/openstack-compute/admin/content/vmware.html

* These docs need updating, I'd do it but I don't know how
* BTW: we fixed the bit where you do stuff with tomcat and the SDK

[Openstack] [OpenStack] [Glance] Reuse the image id when recreate an image in Glance which had been deleted

2013-05-16 Thread Fei Long Wang

Hi stackers,

Now I'm running into an issue about reusing image id in Glance. Based on
current design, the image id can be specified during create image by end
user. But now there is a problem, which is tracked by defect
https://bugs.launchpad.net/glance/+bug/1176978. In summary, if user want to
port an image from VMware vCenter which has been used by many VMs. So when
user port the image into Glance, it would be nice if the original image id
with UUID format from vCenter can be used. But if the image is removed and
recreated again, he will run into current issue. I have discussed it with
flaper87 in Glance IRC channel, below is the chat log. FYI. And I also
attached the patch, please help review it. Any comment/suggestion is
welcome. Thanks.

(07:46:34 AM) flwang: btw, may I get your thought about this defect?
https://bugs.launchpad.net/glance/+bug/1176978
(07:47:48 AM) flwang: about if the image id should be reused after the
image is deleted
(07:49:18 AM) flaper87: flwang: it shouldn't, images are never *truly*
deleted, see
https://github.com/openstack/glance/blob/master/glance/db/sqlalchemy/models.py#L65

(07:49:27 AM) flwang: I see
(07:49:39 AM) flaper87: that's the BaseModel
(07:49:43 AM) flwang: I know it's just marked 1 in the deleted column
(07:49:45 AM) flaper87: and Image inherits from it
(07:49:52 AM) flaper87: correct
(07:50:21 AM) flaper87: there were some discussions about completely
delelting those images (cleaning up the db)
(07:50:23 AM) flwang: now there is a scenario
(07:50:34 AM) flaper87: but nothing has been decided yet
(07:51:28 AM) flaper87: TBH, I don't like the idea of people passing the id
on the create command, but that's another story for another time
(07:51:30 AM) flwang: user is porting some images from vmware vcenter, and
then these images are deleted
(07:51:49 AM) flaper87: flwang: not sure I understand
(07:52:00 AM) flaper87: flwang: you mean, import image from vmware into
glance
(07:52:04 AM) flwang: but next, user want to add these images again with
the image id given by vcenter
(07:52:05 AM) flaper87: then delete image in glance
(07:52:09 AM) flwang: yes
(07:53:20 AM) flwang: anyway, if user want to re-register an image with its
given id from other place, he will run into problem based on current code
(07:54:10 AM) flaper87: flwang: yep, I guess passing the ID makes sense
when you've 3K services pointing to that specific ID and you want them to
use glance
(07:54:35 AM) flwang: exactly
(07:55:19 AM) flaper87: mmh, interesting. I'm trying to find the bp /
discussion about really deleting images. I can't find it
(07:58:04 AM) flwang: for short term, I want to reuse the id
(07:59:03 AM) flwang: when create new image, glance will try to check if
there is a dead image if there is a given image id
(07:59:14 AM) flwang: if yes, reuse id
(07:59:55 AM) flwang: any concern?
(08:00:01 AM) flaper87: might make sense. It would be cool if you could
write this to the mailing list so that other folks can comment. Make sure
your point the use-cases and ideas there
(08:00:19 AM) ***flaper87 is still trying to find that stuff
(08:00:22 AM) flaper87: arrgh
(08:00:24 AM) flaper87: internet is sooo big
(08:02:23 AM) flwang: good suggestion, I will send it to mailing list.
Actually, I have worked out the patch, and I think it works fine.
(08:03:57 AM) flaper87: If you have some code to show, I'd suggest to
either push it somewhere in GH or submitting the patch (thing is that this
change, most likely, requires a blueprint so, I'd rather get some feedback
before going down that road)
(08:13:45 AM) flwang: I'm going to submit the patch as the fix of this bug,
make sense?
(08:14:30 AM) flaper87: mmh, yeah, that makes sense. Expect some
discussions, though.

[Openstack] Folsom - Quantum - Tenant networks have no isolation feature with OpenvSwitch Plugin in GRE mode or VLAN mode

2013-05-16 Thread 李建樺
Hello,

I have a problem using Quantum OpenvSwitch plugin.

I can't figure out why the tenant networks have no isolation feature with
GRE mode or VLAN mode.

I can ping from VMs in tenant network A to VMs in tenant network B (there
are no virtual router connection).

There is my environment settings:

One control node and two compute nodes with CentOS 6.3 and OpenvSwitch 1.9.

Control node runs nova, glance..., and the services of network node, like:
quantum server, l3-agent, dhcp-agent.

Compute nodes runs KVM, nova, quantum-ovs-agent.

ovs_quantum_plugin.ini setting:

GRE mode:
--
[DATABASE]
sql_connection = mysql://quantum:xxx@controller/quantum_ovs
[OVS]
tenant_network_type = gre
enable_tunneling = True
network_vlan_ranges =
tunnel_id_ranges = 1:1000
integration_bridge = br-int
tunnel_bridge = br-tun
local_ip = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
[AGENT]
root_helper = sudo quantum-rootwrap /etc/quantum/rootwrap.conf
--

VLAN mode:
--
[DATABASE]
sql_connection = mysql://quantum:xxx@controller/quantum_ovs
reconnect_interval = 2
[OVS]
tenant_network_type = vlan
network_vlan_ranges = phynet1:20:26
integration_bridge = br-int
bridge_mappings = phynet1:br-eth1
[AGENT]
polling_interval = 2
root_helper = sudo quantum-rootwrap /etc/quantum/rootwrap.conf
--

Do anyone know possible reasons for that? Needing more information?

Please advise.

Thanks,
Jian-Hua lee

[Openstack] network issues within the machines

2013-05-16 Thread Remo Mattei
Hello everyone,
I have checked on Mr. Google but the only thing I found was to add
allow_same_net_traffic True and now I can ping between the two hosts,
however if I try to ping from the router I get not response from the machine.
example:

sudo ip netns exec qrouter-c998da7a-d22f-4b8a-992e-b040a086bdad ping 10.0.0.3

this is using name spaces as you can see (the machine is on Ubunto 12.4) I
have also found that if I create a new security group where I allow ICMP then
the router will respond to the ping. So can someone suggest what to look at?

Thank you so much,

Remo

 Hi Alexandre,

If you used devstack you already have the base LVM storage that we export
via iSCSI by defult. If you want to add some external iSCSI storage device
the way to go about that is going to depend upon what device it is,
assuming there's a driver available from there it's just a matter of making
some modifications to your cinder.conf file and restarting the volume
service.

Thanks Adam. I was able to get that far after a *lot* of headache. AD's

far as the domain_id attribute is concerned.

When running Keystone under Apache HTTPD how does one use horizon?

 Hi Everyone,

  I'm looking for feedback and input about what other sites are doing for
 authentication and authorization with OpenStack.

  First, some background:

  I'm currently evaluating OpenStack (Grizzly), specifically working on
 integration with Active Directory. I'm unable to modify the schema to allow
 groupOfNames as a SUP of organizationalRole so I've implemented a
 workaround using openldap and several of its overlays backends to sit in
 front of AD. That all works just fine, however I really would like to be
 able to map AD groups to roles/tenants. I suspect I'll end up writing some
 code to do this-- shouldn't be too hard.

  Also on the subject of Active Directory, it's a show stopper for me to
 put un-encrypted AD credentials in environment variables to then pass to
 the various openstack CLI progs. My ideal workaround would be to use
 Kerberos authentication which I actually have working. I setup keystone to
 run under apache based on this documentation with some tweaks here and
 there:

 http://docs.openstack.org/developer/keystone/external-auth.html

  I created an openstack client auth plugin (based on the VOMS auth
 plugin) using requests_kerberos and this works well with the nova client,
 however none of the other client tools, including horizon, seem to support
 authentication plugins or the external authentication concept in general.

  So, here are my questions:

  - How have other folks handled integration of OpenStack with existing

Re: [Openstack] [metering] Ceilometer plugin for VM provisioning metrics

Thank you for the help!

There were issues with versioning (I have to run Ceilometer with Folsom

Yet, another question arose, weather I can ignore some events from the RPC

 No, you got everything right!

 You should start by checking if your plugin is loaded by running
 ceilometer-collector with -v option I guess. Then I'd try to see if nova
 is really sending those messages on the RPC bus.

[Openstack] [Nova] nova resize-confirm - error 400

2013-05-16 Thread Bruno Oliveira
Hello guys,

Has anyone ever had issues while doing a nova resize, confirm ?
I noticed I'm being able to do the resize, the hypervisor (hyper-v) is
indeed upgrading the cpu, ram and disk setting according to the flavor
I'm setting in nova resize.

but then, it gets stuck in the VERIFY_RESIZE status, it won't let me
do a nova resize-confirm instance aborting on error 400.

Has anyone got this sort of issue and managed to solve ?

PS.: I noticed that even though my metadata service is uprunning,
my instances are not being able to curl for --user-data (when that is passed
as parameter) nor for metadata. Could it be related to that ?

Thank you a lot

 It won't let me neither confirm nor revert it to the previous state, I'm
 forced to do a

 to shut-it-down
 and let it go up again.

 But again: if I check it on the hypervisor, I can see that the instance has
 been resized in
 cpu, ram and disk. it's just that the nova resize-confirm just won't work
 and let the VM go back
 to ACTIVE status

Any ideas? Thank you!

[Openstack] Project wrap-up videos from Portland

 As for those that would normally lurk in the back of the room, if they

 the design summit. Things should be documented, discussed on the

This message from Russell reminded me that of the videos that were uploaded
from Portland, ones that seem to be vitally important, yet missing, are those

Perhaps someone (Stefano?) knows if those videos might be available? Having

[Openstack] Use IOMMU even when not doing device pass-through?

2013-05-16 Thread Blair Bethwaite
Hi all,

We're running a KVM based OpenStack cloud. I recently realised we don't
have the IOMMU turned on in our hypervisors. All indications I know about
and can find suggest it's only really useful if you want guests accessing
host devices directly, e.g., PCI pass-through. But I wonder if there are
any other performance advantages to be gained...? Virtio, for one, doesn't
seem to use this/need this.

[Openstack] [Nova] Review Request - Metadata transfer between image, volume and instance

2013-05-16 Thread Macdonald-Wallace, Matthew
Hi all,

I've submitted https://review.openstack.org/#/c/28969/ to fix
https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1175571 that deals with the issue of
metadata that has been passed from glance to cinder not being passed on to Nova
when booting from a volume.

Kevin L. Mitchell has kindly taken a look and reviewed the code and I would
really appreciate it if someone else could also have a read through and see if
it's ok to be approved!

Thanks in advance,
