So far, my understanding is that requirements are:
 - discussion
 - messages containing images
 - possibly specific image annotation/commenting

As a data point, Discourse could also be a solution:

It's clearly a discussion tool (including pretty advanced threading,
post likes, etc.), and messages can contain images.

See a design discussion for example at:

So the logs are not really informative, they just show that swift is

files so there is some information there.

However given that this has happened today i would suggest that this is
being caused by the same bug that is being discussed in

[Openstack] CLI command to figure out security-group's association to particular tenant/user

2013-06-27 Thread Rahul Sharma
Hi All,

I have a query regarding the security-groups. Whenever I create a new
tenant, a default security-group is created for that tenant. Now I want to
find out which security-group is for which tenant? If I run quantum
security-group-list, then it shows me the security-groups is below format:-
root@controller1:~# quantum security-group-list

How can I figure out the default security-group to a particular
tenant/user? There is no option to show security-groups bound to particular
tenant. Is there any CLI command to figure out the same?

[Openstack] Suggestions on how to filter an host

2013-06-27 Thread Antonio Messina
Hi all,

We are using OpenStack Folsom and we recently got a quite fat node
with a lot of ram that we want to use only for specific instances run
by a specific tenant.
We will also need to create a specific flavor that should be available
only to this tenant, so that users not belonging to that tenant
wouldn't see it.

My question is thus: how can I
1) create a private flavor (nova flavor-create --is-public 0 is not enough)
2) allow only that specific flavor to run on that specific machine.

Of course, any alternative solution would be good for us :)

.a.

P.S. as far as I know, correct me if I am wrong, on Folsom private
flavors are just flavors not listed on horizon or via nova
flavor-list, there is no concept of private-to-a-tenant flavor

These devices now started filling up to its capacity (~90% of its size).
So now I added 2 new devices (weight 100) to the ring and performed rebalance.
The ring shows me all new configurations with correct partitions mapped to each
device.

But even after running ring rebalance command I do not see my objects are
balanced (level up) to the newer devices.
(i.e. older devices still consume 90% of space, while new devices are empty) So
do I need to perform any additional action (run object updater once) to achieve
this?

Thanks,
Tushar

After the device is moved to a network namespace, we cannot see the device

This is the reason that OVS log message reports no such device.

If ovs-vsctl show the device and you can find the device in one of network
 namespaces,
it looks no problem in most cases though it is a little confusing.

 Hello

I have taken a step back and am trying to get an all-in-one node up and
running. Everything works wonderful (a few warnings in the log about using
default MAC addresses) until I launch an instance.

here is the output of openvswitch-vswitchd.log:
 http://pastie.org/pastes/8084556/text

Does anyone have any clue what could be causing this? It says it creates
the tap device and then it can't find it?

P.S. I know those are warnings are in the logs, not errors... but based
on the severity of the problem it seems as though they should be errors!

If you need any more information please ask!

Re: [Openstack] Re-balancing of RING does not level up my objects in old devices

2013-06-27 Thread Vengurlekar, Tushar V (USD-SWD)
David,
Thanks for the quick reply.

My configuration is little different. The replication level is set to 1 (single
copy). The ring database is stored in common share (so I need not copy it to
all servers)
So do you mean the replicator service is responsible for object movement? (I
have replicator service not running in my setup)
Does rebalancing of Ring DB will move my objects too in the devices? Or it will
just mark the partitions to the new devices?

Regards,
Tushar

Hi Rahul,

The issue is that you are running as an admin user so it shows all the
security groups for every tenant. If you want to list the security groups
for just one particular tenant you can do this:

 quantum security-group-list -- --tenant-id=tenant_id

Re: [Openstack] Does Keystone work with OpenLDAP as backend?

2013-06-27 Thread Brad Topol
Hi Krishnaprasad,

Yes Keystone will work with OpenLDAP as a backend. In fact you can
pulldown devstack and set some values in localrc and it will install
OpenLDAP and configure keystone to use it. Check out the keystone section
in

http://devstack.org/stack.sh.html

Keystone can now optionally install OpenLDAP by adding ldap to the list of
enabled services in the localrc file (e.g. ENABLED_SERVICES=key,ldap). If
OpenLDAP has already been installed but you need to clear out the Keystone
contents of LDAP set KEYSTONE_CLEAR_LDAP to yes (e.g.
KEYSTONE_CLEAR_LDAP=yes ) in the localrc file. To enable the Keystone
Identity Driver (keystone.identity.backends.ldap.Identity) set
KEYSTONE_IDENTITY_BACKEND to ldap (e.g. KEYSTONE_IDENTITY_BACKEND=ldap) in
the localrc file.

Thanks,

Brad

Re: [Openstack] Re-balancing of RING does not level up my objects in old devices

2013-06-27 Thread David Hadas
Ok so you have a single replica indicated by the ring.

Beyond other potential issues with a single replica configuration (e.g.
intolerance to faults and not being able to access data after ring
balancing as will be described below), I dont think there is much
experience with such a setup, maybe others can say something about how ring
rebalancing would work when there is a single replica defined - but even if
the new ring is well formed, you do need to activate the replicators to get
the data moving to its new location - further, until data is moved, you
will have no ability to access any of the partitions that were moved by the
ring (which is due to your use of a single replica - not a recommended
configuration for swift).

rebabalncing a ring does not move data. Think of the ring as a map - once
you change parts of the map (i.e. perform rebalancing), it does not mean
that any data had moved - instead it means that you no longer can reach
some of the data because it is not according to the map... - the
replicator is the one moving the data around to fit the new map. After it
is done, you will be able to reach all data as before. Not being able to
access the dtaa is due to the fact that you have only one replica. If you
had 3, and you could not reach one, you could still reach the other two
(and the ring makes sure not to move more than one replica at a time...)

David,
Thanks for the quick reply.

My configuration is little different. The replication level is set to 1
(single copy). The ring database is stored in common share (so I need not
copy it to all servers)
So do you mean the replicator service is responsible for object movement?
(I have replicator service not running in my setup)
Does rebalancing of Ring DB will move my objects too in the devices? Or it
will just mark the partitions to the new devices?

You need the daemons running 24/7 not only when you change the ring :)
Specifically the replicators must be running to get the objects to their
eventual place (which may have changed by the ring rebalancing you had
performed).

(You also need to copy the ring to all you servers)

Hello,

I have a question related to balancing swift objects across devices added
to the ring.

I have Swift setup which initially created with 2 devices in it (weight
100) and partition power 12.
These devices now started filling up to its capacity (~90% of its size).
So now I added 2 new devices (weight 100) to the ring and performed
rebalance.
The ring shows me all new configurations with correct partitions mapped to
each device.

But even after running ring rebalance command I do not see my objects are
balanced (level up) to the newer devices.
(i.e. older devices still consume 90% of space, while new devices are
empty) So do I need to perform any additional action (run object updater
once) to achieve this?

Thanks,
Tushar

[Openstack] HTTP headers are incorrectly treated case sensitive by jClouds causing OpenStack x-storage-url to fail

2013-06-27 Thread Ali, Saqib
We are using the jclouds library for connection to OpenStack Swift
(grizzly) cloud storage, and are running into the following issue:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JCLOUDS-155

We are using Apache web front for the swift proxy as defined here:
http://docs.openstack.org/developer/swift/apache_deployment_guide.html

Essentially the issue is that the Apache web front (using mod-wsgi) returns
a lower case header (x-storage-url), whereas jClouds is expecting it to be
X-Storage-URL (case-sensitive).

So the jClouds is being case-sensitive. When it shouldn't be.

Is there anything we can do to work around this, while someone from the
jClouds community fixes this issue?

This is a rather urgent issue. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

[Openstack] spawning instance fails due to glance client error

2013-06-27 Thread Mark A. Nye
Hello,

We have a working two host Folsom (2012.2.3 on Ubuntu 12.04) OpenStack
cluster with a controller and compute node. This afternoon we added a
second compute node, but attempts to spawn instances on the new node fail
with a glance client exception (see example log below).

I've triple-checked our new nova.conf and api-paste.ini files, which are
identical to what we have on the working compute node, except for the local
IP address change to metadata_host, vncserver_proxyclient_address, and
my_ip local.

When I run nova-manage service list the nova-compute and nova-network
services on all three machines report as status :-).

The ONLY significant difference I'm seeing is that the new compute node is
running the 2012.2.4 version of nova-network, nova-compute,
and nova-api-metadata. I wouldn't expect this to be a problem, but maybe a
bug or incompatibility was introduced in 2012.2.4? I'd like to try rolling
back to 2012.2.3, but I can't find a copy of the older .deb packages.

Am I missing something obvious? Can anyone offer a suggestion?

best,
Mark

Swift itself also reports well over 130 unique metrics about itself via StatsD,
including the bandwidth for each client request (like ceilometer does). You can
monitor these with any standard statsd listener, and monitoring this data
doesn't require integration with any other openstack project (eg keystone or
ceilometer).

The description of the metrics gathered is at
