Hi, watcher folks. We will not have weekly meeting today because of my unforeseen circumstances. [openstack-dev] [elections] [watcher] Candidacy for Watcher OpenStack PTL (Queens)
Greetings, I am announcing my candidacy for Queens PTL role of Watcher project. If you don't know yet, my name is Alexander Chadin, I'm alexchadin on IRC. I've been working on Watcher project since March 2016. I served as PTL for Pike cycle and this cycle was a difficult one. But we have implemented a lot of blueprints and bug fixes along with general Pike goals. I'd like to set the following goals for Queens cycle: * Support baremetal in Watcher. We have requests from ZTE to add Ironic-based strategy along with baremetal model. It will allow Watcher to manage power of vm-free hosts in case of consolidation goals. To do so, we also need to implement "power on" and "power off" actions. * Investigate ability to support containers. As you may know, almost all companies which uses VMs are trying to work with containers and orchestration services like Kubernates. We could add cold migration actions at least Docker or use OpenStack Zun to get access to containers backed by different container technologies. * Bug triaging. The functional gate job of Watcher is pretty unstable (2-3 tests fails time by time) and should be fixed. Every bug fix (with submitted bug report) across our repos should be reviewed as soon as possible. * Complete HA support for Watcher There were some patches that allows Watcher to launch services in parallel. All we need is to implement schedule mechanism and make sure we have persisted all the things which are using during optimization process. I'd like to thank our wonderful team for Pike cycle and I hope we will make it better! Stay tuned. [openstack-dev] [Watcher] Spec and Feature freeze
Hi Watcher folks, Next week is the Pike-3 milestone release week and, as we have discussed on last weekly meeting, I propose to set spec freeze on July 24 and feature freeze on July 31. You can still review submitted commits but don’t merge them for now. Exceptions can be applied to the pike priorities specs and features. CI, bug fixes, doc patches can be merged at any time. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask them in reply to this message or on #openstack-watcher channel. I hope Watcher is going well and you are getting more traction everyday in the OpenStack community ! As you may guess, my last 2 months have been very busy with my relocation in Vancouver with my family. After 8 weeks of active job search in the cloud industry here in Vancouver, I've got a Senior Product Manager position at Parsable, a start-up leading the Industry 4.0 revolution. I will continue to deal with very large customers but in different industries (Oil & Gas, Manufacturing...) to build the best possible product, leveraging cloud and mobile technologies. It was a great pleasure to lead the Watcher initiative from its infancy to the OpenStack Big Tent and be able to work with all of you. I hope to be part of another open source community in the near future but now, due to my new attributions, I need to step down as a core contributor to Watcher specs. Feel free to reach me in any case if I still hold restricted rights on launchpad or anywhere else. I hope to see you all in Vancouver next year for the summit and be part of the traditional Watcher dinner (I will try to find the best place for you guys).
