[Openstack] Regarding Openstack upgrade for havana onwards

2013-12-05 Thread Sumit Gaur
 Hi ,
I am a openstack user and I had faced a lot of problems in upgrading
my environment to newer versions of openstack releases. I need to know
if Openstack dev team is working on *smooth upgrade* process of
further release ? I know there are process doc available but process
itself is very difficult.

Can we start looking into this direction as it is a major pain point
and show stopper for openstack users so far. *Please let me know any
pointers in this directions*.

 Thanks

The only automated upgrade I know of is Grenade[1]. You should check it out.

The upgrade process is going to be difficult no matter what, but you’ll find the
people thinking seriously about this problem in the Grenade project.

Hope this helps.

I should clarify this a bit to keep expectations realistic: Grenade is not
a tool for performing upgrades, especially on production deployments. It
is designed for testing the common upgrade path to detect when unexpected
incompatabilities arise. It uses DevStack to set up the running system so
right there it is not suitable for production use.

It is useful to look at to get an idea of the minimum that needs to be done
during an upgrade, though.
