Re: [openstack-dev] [masakari][congress] what is a host?

2018-10-06 Thread Sam P
Hi Eric,

(1) "virtual machine" is bug. This need to be corrected as physical machine
or hypervisor.
Masakari host is a physical host/hypervisor. I will correct this.

(2) Not through masakari APIs. You have to add metadata key
'HA_Enabled=True' to each VM by using nova API.
Masakeri monitors check for failures and send notification to masakari
API if detected any failure (i.e host, VM or process failures).
In host failure (hypervisor down) scenario, Masakari engine get the VM
list on that hypervisor and start evacuate VMs.
Operator can configure masakari to evacuate all VMs or only the VMs
with the metadata key 'HA_Enabled=True.
Please see the config file [1] section [host_failure] for more details.

Let me know if you need more info on this.

[openstack-dev] [masakari][congress] what is a host?

2018-10-06 Thread Eric K
Hi all, I'm working on a potential integration between masakari and
congress. But I am stuck on some basic usage questions I could not
answer in my search of docs and demos. Any clarification or references
would be much appreciated!

1. What does a host refer to in masakari API? Here's the explanation in API doc:
"Host can be any kind of virtual machine which can have compute
service running on it."

So is a masakari host usually a nova instance/server instead of a
host/hypervisor?

2. Through the masakari api, how does one go about configuring a VM to
be managed by masakari instance HA?

Thanks so much!

Eric Kao

[openstack-dev] [openstack-ansible] blocked gates

2018-10-06 Thread Mohammed Naser
Hi everyone:

Our gates have unfortunately been blocked because of OpenSUSE failures
and Bionic timeouts, I have submitted a patch to set both to non
voting

Bionic: It seems to take a really long time for APT installs, I'm
investigating and thanks to fungi I hope to have an instance to get it
up and running soon.

OpenSUSE: Package conflicts, nicolasbock is looking into it

I have created a patch to disable both jobs, as well as two patches to
enable them so we can be ready to enable them once they're fixed.

remote: https://review.openstack.org/608427 Set OpenSUSE and Bionic
jobs to non-voting
remote: https://review.openstack.org/608428 Restore Bionic jobs to
voting
remote: https://review.openstack.org/608429 Restore OpenSUSE jobs

Thanks everyone for your patience!

Mohammed

[openstack-dev] [tripleo][nova]Unable to launch instances after fresh deployment

2018-10-06 Thread Cody
Hello stackers,

I have a 3-controller based cluster deployed using TripleO (Queens,
tripleo-current). Every time after a fresh deployment, I am unable to
launch instances for the first few times. New launches either stuck at
BUILD or go to ERROR state. The issue continues until the "nova_placement"
container on the controller with the InternalAPI VIP becomes "unhealthy"
and receives a manual docker restart. Only after that, everything goes back
to normal. The problem is reproducible and consistent every time with fresh
deployments.

I found a similar description of the syndrome in this bug [1]. The report
is for Rocky, but the syndrome is similar to mine using Queens.

Could this be the same bug for Queens, too?

[openstack-dev] [Searchlight] Weekly report Stein R-27

2018-10-06 Thread Trinh Nguyen
Dear team,

I think it's good to maintain a weekly report to keep everyone informed of
what's going on. So, from now on, I will try to write weekly reports. Here
is for the week of Oct 1 - Oct 5 or Stein R-27:

[openstack-dev] [os-upstream-institute] Cancelling the bi-weekly meetings

2018-10-06 Thread Ildiko Vancsa
Hi Training Team,

As a follow up from our last call we agreed to cancel the regular IRC meetings
as we do not have that many regular topics to discuss.

We will keep scheduling ad-hoc calls to prepare for the trainings before the
Summits and utilize the mailing list and the IRC channel for communication.

Please raise your concern __before October 12__ in case you don’t agree with
this decision. If I don’t receive any concerns or preference on keeping the
meeting till that date I will go ahead and remove it form the community
calendar.

Please let me know if you have questions.

Thanks and Best Regards,
Ildikó

[openstack-dev] [os-upstream-institute] Sync calls with the mentors for Berlin

2018-10-06 Thread Ildiko Vancsa
Hi,

We are planning two calls to prepare for the Berlin Summit. One is some time
between Oct 15 and 23 and the other is the week of November 5 which is the week
before the Summit.

The purpose of the first call is to go through the training material and
prepare for the training. We will check the slides and the exercises and check
whether we have any missing items or things to correct in the Contributor guide.

The second call will be for checking back on action items and discuss any last
minute administrativa.

I created a Doodle poll to find the best times within the two aforementioned
periods: https://doodle.com/poll/3ctqzkikn7prnpgg

Please mark __all the slots__ that can work for you, even if it is not the most
convenient time of the day as we will only have two of these calls.

If you plan to join the crew for Berlin and you haven’t signed up yet on the
wiki please do it here:
https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/OpenStack_Upstream_Institute_Occasions

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks and Best Regards,
Ildikó
