[openstack-dev] [heat] RFC: Nested resources missing orchestration UUID at stack lifecycle plugin-time

2016-08-30 Thread D'ANDREA, JOE (JOE)
I'd like to open the proverbial floor for feedback regarding a problem I'm
trying to tackle. It concerns Heat's assignment of stack resource UUIDs prior
to a stack's instantiation. (Note that this is not the same as physical UUIDs
assigned by Nova, Cinder, et. al; one ID is upstream/heat-specific, the other
is downstream/service-specific.)

For a summary of the use case, problem, and three (high level) proposals to
solve it, please refer to Heat bug 1516807 [1].

My thinking so far: The first two proposals are non-starters, while the third
one sounds the most plausible. I imagine there are others I haven't thought of.

Questions/feedback welcomed and appreciated, especially if it can help me draw
a better bead on the scope of this change and what would need altering. I will
then use that to help inform an initial blueprint and shepherd it forward.

Thank you!

jd

 Hi Joe,

The telco slides are powerpoint, but are hosted on google drive ...

Thanks very much for the OpEx slides (and corresponding design doc)!

Is there a deck link for Congress: Introduction, Status, and Future Plans as
well?

The OpEx slides look similar to a degree, but I recall the other deck went into
different detail and made for a really nice slide-based summary of things.

Please advise. Thanks!

 Hi Joe,

Here's the link to the Intro to Congress slide deck.

Thank you! I should have re-checked the wiki. :)

Tim,

I really appreciated the Intro/Status talk, and I'm sorry to have missed the
Telco talk. Are slides for those talks available online?

[openstack-dev] [heat] Heat Template Cookbook

2015-05-28 Thread D'ANDREA, JOE (JOE)
[This was originally posted to openst...@lists.openstack.org by accident.
Reposting it to openstack-dev.]

Calling all Heat neophytes, aficionados, and everyone in between ...

I've often thought it would be helpful to add a Heat Template Cookbook to the
developer documentation.

Like any helping friendly cookbook, it would contain a variety of annotated
recipes/templates. Ultimately, it would seek to cover use case scenarios for
every possible ingredient/resource out there.

I've volunteered to curate and author this cookbook, alongside the HOT Guide.

To help get things started, I'm seeking template contributions that:

* Are simple and illustrate basic concepts.
* Are more intermediate and build on basic concepts.
* Are more advanced and demonstrate more complex orchestration.
* Solve a common problem or answer a frequently asked template question.

Repository links welcomed!

I also seek:

* Wish lists. I wish there was a template that ...
* Questions. How do I ... ? Can I ... ?

For those wondering about the heat-templates github repo[1], yes, I'll be
plundering the vaults. ;)

Questions/contributions most welcomed. Simply reply to this message. (Once the
doc repository is ready, we'll also gladly accept contributions through
proposed patches to the docs.)

IMPORTANT: Please post *links* (to gists, repos, pastes, etc.) instead of
attachments or embedded items.

Thank you!
