[openstack-dev] [I18n] Stein translation plans and prio
Hello, the PTG is just over and now we are at the beginning of the work for Stein cycle. First of all let me thank all supporters for the I18n team and all individuals who help to present OpenStack in different languages. We have made so much progress since the formation of the team. What are the workflows now for the Stein cycle: 1. Project documentation translation We have now the right Zuul jobs in the flow to pull and push documentation from project repos to Zanata and back. At the moment there are 3 early-bird projects on the list: Horizon, OpenStack Ansible, and OpenStack Helm. Expanding this list will be the main work in the cycle. 2. Whitepaper translation Early this year we started with translation of Edge Computing Whitepaper. After solving issues with publishing translated content we have here now also a flow from the origin document through translation platform and back. Container whitepaper is the second project in this space. 3. Stein Dashboard translation All translation strings from stable/rocky branch are merged back to master and we work ahead on the master branch. There are 22 projects on that list. All plans and prios are linked on the frontpage of translation platform https://translate.openstack.org Keep the stones rolling on the Stein cycle. kind regards Frank (PTL I18n) __ OpenStack Development Mailing List (not for usage questions) Unsubscribe: openstack-dev-requ...@lists.openstack.org?subject:unsubscribe http://lists.openstack.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/openstack-dev

[openstack-dev] [all] Berlin Hackathon: Hacking the Edge
Hello, For the weekend before the Berlin Summit we plan an additional OpenStack community event: "Hacking the Edge" Hackathon. The idea is to build together a community cloud based on Edge technology. We're looking for volunteers: Developers Try out the newest software version from your projects like Nova, Cinder, and Neutron. What's the requirements for Edge and what makes sense? Install different components on different devices and connects all of them. Operators Operation of Edge Cloud is also a challenge. Changes from 'must be online' to 'maybe online'. Which measuring methods are available for monitoring? Where are my backups? Do we need an operation center also in the Edge? Architects General Edge Cloud Architecture. How is the plan for connecting new devices with different connectivity. Scalable application and life cycle management. Bring your own devices like laptop, Raspberry PI, WIFI routers, which you would connect to the Edge Cloud. We host the event location and provide infrastructure, maybe together with a couple of 5G devices, because the venue has one of the first 5G antennas in Germany. Everybody is welcome to join and have fun. We are only limited on the event space. More details are also in the event description. One of the things I discussed with Ian and Frank in Vancouver is the expense of recreating PDFs with new translations. It's prohibitively expensive for the Foundation as it requires design resources which we just don't have. As a result, we created the Containers whitepaper in HTML, so that it could be easily updated w/o working with outside design contractors. I indicated that we would also be moving the Edge paper to HTML so that we could prevent that additional design resource cost. On the other hand, the source strings of edge computing whitepaper which I18n team previously translated do not include HTML markup tags, since the source strings are based on just text format. The version that Akihiro put together was based on the Edge PDF, which we unfortunately didn't have the resources to implement in the same format. I really appreciate Akihiro's work on RST-based support on publishing translated edge computing whitepapers, since translators do not have to re-translate all the strings. I would like to second this. It took a lot of initiative to work on the RST-based translation. At the moment, it's just not usable for the reasons mentioned above. [openstack-dev] [I18n] [PTL] [Election] Candidacy for I18n PTL in Stein Cycle
[posted & mailed] https://review.openstack.org/#/c/585663/ This is my announcement for re-candidacy as I18n PTL in Stein Cycle. At first a quick review what we've done in the last cycle: 1. Zanata upgrade done. As one of the first community's we're running Zanata Release 4 in production. A big success and a great user experiense for all. 2. Translation Check Site done. We were able to win Deutsche Telekom as sponsor for resources, so now we are able to host our own Translation Check Site. From my point of view this solves different problems which we had in the past and now we can check translation strings very fast on our requirements. 3. Aquire more people to the team. I had great experiences during the OpenStack Days in Krakow and Budapest. I shared informationen what our team is doing and how I18n works in the OpenStack Community. I've got many inspirations and hopefully some new team members :-) What I mostly like is getting things done. In this cycle we should get ready project doc translations. We started already with some projects as a proof of concept and we're still working on it. To get that around, involve more projects and involve more project team members for translations is the biggest challenge for me in this cycle. On the other hand we have Edge Computing whitepaper and Container whitepaper on our translation plan. With a new technology in use to publish the translation results very fast on the web page. Beside that we have the OpenStack Summit Berlin in that cycle. For me a special event, since I live and work in Berlin. I expect a lot of collaboration and knowledge sharing with I18n and the OpenStack Community in general. That's my plan for Stein, I'm looking forward to your vote. After "Z", the next name should start with "A" again. The name must be composed only of the 26 characters of the ISO basic Latin alphabet. Names which can be transliterated into this character set are also acceptable. The name must refer to the physical or human geography of the region encompassing the location of the OpenStack design summit for the corresponding release. The exact boundaries of the geographic region under consideration must be declared before the opening of nominations, as part of the initiation of the selection process. The name must be a single word with a maximum of 10 characters. Words that describe the feature should not be included, so "Foo City" or "Foo Peak" would both be eligible as "Foo". Names which do not meet these criteria but otherwise sound really cool should be added to a separate section of the wiki page and the TC may make an exception for one or more of them to be considered in the Condorcet poll. [openstack-dev] [I18n] Translation plan & priorities for Rocky
Good morning, welcome to the Rocky translation release cycle! We merged today on our translation platform the stable-queens translations back to master and created a new translation dashboard on [1]. There are 19 projects identified for translation in Rocky. Please check your own project, if it meets your expectations. Furthermore we have 5 documentation projects still on the list [2]. There is a very good progress and only deltas are required to translate. Additional we have the translation for the Edge Computing Whitepaper still online [3]. If you are interested to have this in your language, please go ahead. New language version will be accepted. Early April we want to start with a new User Survey Translation. There will be very few changes. Due the upcoming Summit in Berlin we want to translate the results of the survey also, at least to German. Last but not least, as Petr mentioned yesterday evening on openstack-dev, our big goal for Rocky is project doc translation. [openstack-dev] [I18n][PTL] PTL nomination for I18n
This is my announcement for re-candidacy as I18n PTL in Rocky Cycle. The time from the last cycle passed very fast. I had to manage all the things that a PTL expects. But we documented everything very well and I always had the full support of the team. I asked the team and it would continue to support me, which is why I take the chance again. This is the point to say thank you to all that we have achieved many things and we are a great community! Now it's time to finish things: 1. Zanata upgrade. We are in the middle of the upgrade process. The dev server is sucessfull upgraded and the new Zanata versions fits all our requirements to automate things more and more. Now we are in the hot release phase and when it's over, the live upgrade can start. 2. Translation check site. A little bit out of scope in Queens release because of lack of resources. We'll try this again in Rocky. 3. Aquire more people to the team. That will be the main part of my work as PTL in Rocky. We've won 3 new language teams in the last cycle and can Openstack serve in Indian, Turkish and Esperanto. There is even more potential for strengthening existing teams or creating new ones. For this we have great OpenStack events in Europe this year, at least the Fall Summit in Berlin. We plan workshops and presentations. The work of the translation team is also becoming more colorful. We have project documentation translation in the order books, translation user survey and white papers for working groups. We are well prepared, but we also look to the future, for example how AI-programming can support us in the translation work. If the plan suits you, I look forward to your vote. Please take part in the survey till 2017/11/15 23:59:59 many thanks Frank (PTL I18n) [1] https://www.surveymonkey.de/r/HSD5YTD __ OpenStack Development Mailing List (not for usage questions) Unsubscribe: openstack-dev-requ...@lists.openstack.org?subject:unsubscribe http://lists.openstack.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/openstack-dev

If you'd like to see examples of what I'm going for, I did this on a much smaller scale in Atlanta, with just Red Hat engineers. Good morning, it's only a week to the next PTG in Denver. I would like to invite you to visit our project etherpad on [1]. We as I18n team are together with the Doc team in the same room and we share also our planning on the etherpad. Monday morning we reserved some time to say "Hello" to everybody. [openstack-dev] [Elections] Candidacy for I18n PTL (Queens)
Good morning! Today I would like to announce my candidacy as I18n PTL in Queens cycle. I've been in the OpenStack Community since 2015, active as a translator in the German team. I participated in my first OpenStack Summit in Tokyo and met the I18n team for the first time at the Design Summit. It was an exciting moment to meet people from all over the world working on the same thing. It is not just translations, but working with different cultures, views and ... time zones. These are the magical dimensions and challenges. After Tokyo we had virtual midcycle sprint to develop the translation check site, one of the tools to help translators in their work. I met more people during Barcelona Summit and sank deeper and deeper into the work of OpenStack and I18n. In Boston we had our own session to show the work of the I18n team. We prepared a workshop also which was not so successful, but the preparation was great and we can repeat it at any time. At this point I would like to thank Ianychoi for his excellent work in the past as PTL. He is tireless, full of energy, and brought I18n far forward. He was for me in the last weeks a kind of mentor to learn all the things related to I18n and PTL. Nevertheless, I still need support from the entire team to successfully manage this task. What goals have I set for myself for Queens: 1. Completion of the translation check site. I have been involved in this project since 2015 and now it has to be finished :-) 2. Automate all the things. We have some manual work in I18n and our tools that are to automate to make the work easier. 3. Aquire more people to the team. We have great teams that do a lot. But we also get more work through translate new OpenStack projects or the User Survey. I hope I have given a good overview. Contact me directly if you have any questions or requests. On good cooperation in a new cycle of OpenStack! kind regards Frank Email: eu...@arcor.de IRC: eumel8 Twitter: eumel_8 OpenStack Profile: https://www.openstack.org/community/members/profile/45058/frank-kloeker __ OpenStack Development Mailing List (not for usage questions) Unsubscribe: openstack-dev-requ...@lists.openstack.org?subject:unsubscribe http://lists.openstack.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/openstack-dev
Re: [openstack-dev] [OpenStack-I18n] [I18n] PTL Candidacy for Pike
Ian, we know you as a reliable, ethusiastic and friendly guy of the OpenStack community. I take the opportunity to thank you for your work at all. And I'm very happy that you want to continue to work in the project. Go ahead, you may always have strength and energy for the new challenges. kind regards Frank Am 2017-01-26 17:38, schrieb Ian Y. Choi: Hello, I am writing to announce my candidacy for I18n Pike PTL. To retrospect my activities in Ocata cycle, my overall feeling is that Ocata cycle is really short. In fact, I acknowledge that most of the action items I wrote in [1] are still on-going or have not completed yet. Nevertheless, the followings are some memorable activities which I have involved with and also would like to continue during upcoming Pike cycle: * Well summarized action items from Ocata Design Summit [2] * IRC meeting time change accordingly with two bi-weekly schedules * Publicizing IRC meeting announcement and logs [3] * On-going effort on Zanata upgrade with Xenial with infra team * Clearer communication on translation imports and criteria [4, 5] * Landing page updates for translated documents * Co-participation in Pike PTG with Documentation team [6] I am seeing that there are many upstream translations, and many I18n team members participate with great and kind help. I really appreciate their contributions and also the help from especially Infrastructure team, Documentation team, and Zanata development team members. I believe that I am able to continue my effort to finish what I wrote in [1] and make for better I18n. Please support and encourage me again.
