[Openstack-operators] Forthcoming Nova Ocata 15.0.1 patch release - high severity fixes

2017-03-14 Thread Matt Riedemann
I've got a release request up for the Nova Ocata 15.0.1 patch release
here [1].

This release contains a few fixes for some high severity regression bugs
introduced in the 15.0.0 release. If you have not yet upgraded to Ocata
15.0.0 I'd recommend going with this version when you do to get the
fixes within.

See the release notes for more details [2] (note these are from the as
yet unreleased release notes so they don't say 15.0.1 yet).

Re: [Openstack-operators] OpenStack Operators Milan - Neutron Session

2017-03-14 Thread Edgar Magana
Saverio,

We all know that there is not such a thing as “strongly technical” for
companies trying to introduce a product. Let’s give it a try. However, this is
up to the community to decide if the sessions are what they were looking for.
I will miss so much the event… Arrgghhh..

Thanks,

Edgar

Hello Edgar,
there was a discussion about this here:
http://eavesdrop.openstack.org/meetings/ops_meetup_team/2017/ops_meetup_team.2017-03-07-20.16.log.txt
we had several sponsor requests to make presentations. We agreed that as long
as the sponsor presentations are strongly technical everybody will be happy.
ciao,

WOW! Something has changed from previous Ops Meet-ups. I remember clearly that
we (Operators), wanted to have a free-from-vendors environment and it seems
that now we want them to come and provide updates on their offerings.
I think vendors have plenty opportunities to show their features and demos, for
instance the Summits and OpenStack Days around the world.

Thanks,

Edgar

Please add to it anything you would like to cover.

Also will anyone from SDN Vendors be there? Please come and provide a 5 minute

Re: [Openstack-operators] Seeking OpenStack Days East Sponsorship Funding [3]

2017-03-14 Thread Haisam Ido
Dear OpenStack Days East Sponsors and Supporters,

Thank you for considering sponsoring this year’s OpenStack Days East
conference which is planned to be in the
city of Washington, DC, in mid to late August. The event will have focus on
the Government sector, as well as containerizations, Kubernetes, DevOps
practices, provisioning, orchestration, and offer OpenStack training.

We are currently favoring the Marriott Marquis
,
a state of the art hotel, ideally situated in the heart of cosmopolitan
Washington, DC, where museums, the White House, and the US Capitol are only
minutes away. In order to successfully execute this event, we will need
sponsors to assist financially with securing both the event planner, which
we have selected , as well as the venue, in
order to successfully execute this event. We will need financial support
from sponsors by March 27th. Unfortunately, if we don’t receive funding by
that date the conference will have to be delayed significantly or cancelled
entirely. The proposed
sponsorship
levels that we developed can be found here . Also,
the sponsorship agreement can be found here for
your review and consideration.

We will follow up with you to discuss how your organization can be part of
this exciting conference, and answer any questions you may have! Ms. Suzie
Grieco  will be contacting you;
however, if you have any questions before that, feel free to contact her at
+1-703-675-6286 <(703)%20675-6286>.

Thank you very much in advance, and we look forward to working with you.

Re: [Openstack-operators] Issue with snapshots of raw images

2017-03-14 Thread George Shuklin
If anyone curious about this bug: It was clearly linux-3.13 bug, issue
was completely solved by moving to 4.4.

On 02/15/2017 08:03 PM, George Shuklin wrote:

Hello.

We've upgraded to mitaka, qemu 2.5/linux-3.13 and found that raw
images now have BIG issues with snapshots.

Symptoms:

When snapshot process reach 'fallocated' blocks (see below) all IO in
guest start lagging, including network IO. Windows starts loosing
pings for very long period of time (~30-40 minutes), linux do this
briefly (~500-700ms, but regularly).

Research so far:

All those symptoms may be resolved if every disk block is actually
written on disk (dd if=disk of=disk conv=notrunc). If file has
fallocated blocks, it will cause problem. If it has sparse hole it
will cause problem too, but when preallocate_images = space, no any
sparse holes are in the file.

Best way so far to distinguish 'bad' disk from 'good' is to use
filefrag -v. For 'bad' disk it shows "unwritten" flag.

1. Any idea how to prevent this?

2. Any idea how to force nova to actually write images completely
without using 'fallocate'?

[Openstack-operators] Networking in Trove. Security question

2017-03-14 Thread Evgeniy Ivanov
Hello,

I use Trove on my test environment and some things look very insecurely for me.
The base trove schema requires access to the MQ service from guest instances,
that means the network allocated to guest instances (let's call it the trove
network) should has access to the management network (where the MQ servers
placed), but in order to allocate a network port on the trove network a client
need to have access to this network.
The question is — what does prevent (or can prevent) users to create an
instance (not a trove guest, but just a common compute instance) in the same
trove network and get access to the management network (at least to the MQ
service). It’s not a problem for trove guests, because clients don’t have SSH
access to trove guests.
Seems, nothing does and any clients can just allocate instances on the trove
network and get access to the MQ service (next, ddos is a possible security
violation at least)
I found the config option trove_managed_net_id in the Trove wiki, but there are
no mentions how to use it and I can not find any terminations of those options
in the trove code (newton release)

Thanks.
