We've heard from several European operators on this thread, and their
input makes it clear that log translations are not useful to them.

IIRC, the translation feature was originally added for some of our APAC
users. Is anyone from APAC actively using the feature?

[Openstack-operators] ceph rbd root disk unexpected deletion

2017-03-13 Thread Mike Lowe
Over the weekend a user reported that his instance was in a stopped state and

and the strange thing is that the root disk is now gone. Has anybody come
across anything like this before?

And why on earth is it attempting deletion of the rbd device without deletion

Okay, cool, just wanted to be clear, anything I can contribute from running
our platform http://nuagex.io for the past year on Mitaka/Newton/Liberty

releases of openstack, and tested

value come in,
look forward to seeing you guys there.

I hope the sessions are kept technical and openstack operators focussed, as

Re: [Openstack-operators] OpenStack Operators Milan - Neutron Session

2017-03-13 Thread Melvin Hillsman
Agree with you on this Edgar and it deserves further discussion. We discussed
this a week ago or so now amongst Ops Meetup Team and again, I think we should
discuss further; I am not saying what is right or wrong.

Re: [Openstack-operators] OpenStack Operators Milan - Neutron Session

2017-03-13 Thread Christoph Andreas Torlinsky
Okay, cool, just wanted to be clear, anything I can contribute from running
our platform http://nuagex.io for the past year on Mitaka/Newton/Liberty
and Kilo, i'm happy to share as an operator - we have gone through many
releases of openstack, and tested
them out, finding some better than others etc., which is where i see our
value come in,
look forward to seeing you guys there.

I hope the sessions are kept technical and openstack operators focussed, as
i would like to see that myself, even i happen to work
for the company below ;)

all the best,

c

[Openstack-operators] Milan Ops Midcycle - Cinder session

2017-03-13 Thread Sean McGinnis
The start of the Cinder session etherpad is available here:

https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/MIL-ops-cinder-rolling-upgrade

Please add whatever info you would like to it.

I think the main interest was in rolling upgrades, but feel free
to add any other general Cinder topics you would like to discuss
to the end and we can see how far we can get.

Thanks!

Sean

Re: [Openstack-operators] ceph rbd root disk unexpected deletion

2017-03-13 Thread Edmund Rhudy (BLOOMBERG/ 120 PARK)
I recall encountering something like this once when an instance termination
failed halfway through - the root disk was removed but the instance record
remained in the database. In my case, it didn't spontaneously happen, but was a
requested termination that blew up at some point between removing the root disk
and removing the instance record from the DB. If the instance action log
doesn't indicate that anyone asked for the instance to be terminated, that's a
bit weird.

From: joml...@iu.edu
Subject: Re:[Openstack-operators] ceph rbd root disk unexpected deletion

Over the weekend a user reported that his instance was in a stopped state and
could not be started, on further examination it appears that the vm had crashed
and the strange thing is that the root disk is now gone. Has anybody come
across anything like this before?

And why on earth is it attempting deletion of the rbd device without deletion
of the instance?
