as long as your system does not reach this IP network-wise
the sync will not work.
So you should sort this out first.

Re: [Openvas-discuss] NVT Synchronization

2011-10-24 Thread Scott Damron
You might want to run a tcpdump or wireshark on the traffic to make
sure your firewall (either local or remote) aren't blocking it. If
you have a proxy in the mix, you will have to authenticate to it in
order to use wget.

 Jan (and all),
I tried the NVT sync again and this time didn't refresh the page, just hit it
 and walked away.

I looked at the OpenVAS appliance screen after clicking the Sync button and
 see the following:
Failed to receive data: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.
 That appears 3 times then:
Failed to send data:  Invalid argument
Failed to send data:  Resource temporarily unavailable
Then the TLS line appears a few more times.

Is there a way to update the NVT from the command line on the OpenVAS
 appliance?

I did try this command at the OpenVAS appliance:
 Wget rsync.openvas.org:/nvt-feed
 This is what was displayed:
        --2011-10-24 time-- frp://rsync.openvas.org//nvt-feed
                = 'nvt-feed'
        Resolving rsync.openvas.org... 78.47.251.61
Connecting to rsync.openvas.org|78.47.251.61|:21... Failed: Network is
 unreachable.

Is the above command trying to connect to 78.47.251.61 on port 21? Is that
the port rsync uses? If not, what port does rsync use?

Could the above be because I might not have the port opened on my firewall
 correctly?

I tried wget with several different web sites, including openvas.org and got
 the message Network is unreachable.

I can not get the NVT Synchronization to finish.

I click the Synchronize with Feed now button, when I refresh the page, it
shows Synchronization in progress. Started Day Date Time and it shows the
status message of OK, request submitted and a status code of 202.

if you are doing a reload of the page, you are sending again the request to
run the sync while it is already running.

Please just click on NVT Feed in the Navigation to see whether it is still
in progress or is finished. Watch the feed version, it is in fact a time
 stamp.
