2017-08-23 Thread Shelly Coen
Hi Everyone,

The prplWrt Working Group has compiled a survey on the subject of how
OpenWrt/LEDE is used.

We would really appreciate if you could take some time to complete this short
survey to help give us a valuable oversight of this. We will present the
results at the OpenWrt Summit in Prague in October.

https://www.surveymonkey.de/r/openwrtlede

Those of you who complete the survey will receive a discount code towards a
ticket for OpenWrt Summit in Prague on October 26th/27th 2017. The CFP for
OpenWrt Summit is open for another week. We are accepting submissions via
papercall.io/openwrtsummit or via email - instructions are on openwrtsummit.org

Tomorrow (Thursday 24th) we will have the prplwrt Working Group Call at
9amPT/18:00CEST. Dial in information is below and all are welcome to join.

Thank you, and please feel free to pass this survey along to others. As always,
if you have questions you can reach out to me and I will be happy to answer!

All the best,

2017-08-14 Thread Shelly Coen
Hi Everyone,

We have just over two weeks until the CFP for OpenWrt Summit closes on August
31st.

This year, the summit will be a two day event. It will be taking place on
October 26th and 27th in Prague, Czech Republic. The first day will be much
like the last two years, with talks and panels. The second day will feature
workshops and developer sprints, as well as the opportunity to deep dive on
topics discussed on the first day.

You can submit an abstract for a talk, panel, or a workshop two different ways
- On www.papercall.io/openwrtsummit<http://www.papercall.io/openwrtsummit> or
via email to she...@prplsummit.org - details for what your abstract needs are
on www.openwrtsummit.org<http://www.openwrtsummit.org>, as well as below.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about the
conference itself, or if you would like some help in preparing your abstract
before submitting. For tips on all stages of submitting or giving a talk, have
a look at the resources available here -
https://github.com/vmbrasseur/Public_Speaking.

Please share this information with anyone you think might be interested.
Thanks,

2017-07-26 Thread Shelly Coen
Hi Everyone,

Here are notes from the call last week as well as the dial-in information for
the call tomorrow.

Hope to see you there!

Shelly

Attendees:

Kathy Giori
Shelly Coen
Bruce Horowitz
Pedro Santos
Cesare Garlati
Sailesh Suman
Hauke Mehrtens
Art Swift
Emanuele Bovisio

Agenda

* reminder, Summit CFP is out — day 1: standard talks, day 2: workshops,
development sprints, deep dive discussions, etc.
* feedback on draft of survey

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aAD8M1FEWdzN1-9DJLz0yUQXg1PrayPX6L8FgbN7E0Y/edit
* OpenWrt/LEDE - integration going well? anything prpl can offer to help?
* board farm - use to automatically test trunk and latest releases on a variety
of platforms — need resources to execute
* training programs - anyone know of OpenWrt/LEDE training programs or
workshops? should they be offered?

Updates on the OpenWrt Summit. Things are all going smoothly so far. As we have
mentioned before, we are still seeking sponsors. All enquiries can be sent to
she...@prplfoundation.org. The sponsorship prospectus is available on Basecamp
or from Shelly directly.

CFP is open, we welcome submissions for talks (20mins/40mins), panels, or
workshops. You can submit your proposal to she...@prplfoundation.org or to the
following link - https://www.papercall.io/openwrtsummit. Accepting submissions
until August 31st at midnight UTC.

Survey - This is to help us get an overview of how companies use OpenWrt.
Trying to get a sense of the development process people follow and the business
process people follow. Suggestions for improvement.

Some questions to add - (mostly fill in the blank, multiple choice where we can
fill in those options)
What products/applications are you using it in? (esp individual applications)
If not using OpenWrt, why not? What are you using instead?
Licensing/any concerns with typical current licensing
Training programs - do you know of any, do you want to have these?
Future requirements, any specific questions related to this?
Specific features you would like to see?
Roadmap features you plan to work on.

We would ask for email addresses but would not share information from people
(participants will get a % discount on OpenWrtSummit ticket, entered into a
raffle of some sort. Email address required to keep track of that)
Data will be totally anonymised when we share the results online.
Share report with a blog post that breaks down the information.
We will also present the results at OpenWrt Summit during day 1. We can have a
deep dive based on the results on day 2.

OpenWrt/LEDE integration is going well. Status is that things are being
transferred to SPI and all is running as it should now. Financed by donations.

Boardfarm - Pedro has spoken to João. They have been loaded with a lot of work
so João hasn't been able to share the presentation just yet. Pedro is
interested in getting more involved. Presentation should happen next week.

Training programs - Does anyone know of any formal/ongoing/one-off programs
that exist? If not, does anyone have interest in doing this? We will ask this
in the survey to gauge interest from people.

[OpenWrt-Devel] OpenWrt Summit Committee Call - July 19th

2017-07-19 Thread Shelly Coen
Hi Everyone,

Here are the minutes from today's OpenWrt Summit Committee Call. The next call
will be on August 2nd at 7am PT/ 16:00 CEST again, and I look forward to seeing
you then.

As always, please don't hesitate to send me any questions you might have.

Shelly

OpenWrt Summit Committee Call - July 19th

Attendees:
Shelly Coen
Federico Capoano
Hauke Mehrtens

Michal Hrusecky

Agenda:
- Soliciting more sponsors so that we can offer travel sponsorships. Let's talk
specific leads/make introductions.
- How many talks will we have?

- How should day two be structured - number of workshops etc

The questions on number of talks and structure of both days are to get an idea
of the shape of things.

We have had some talks proposed on papercall.io, no workshops just yet. We will
decide the structure of the workshops when we have had some proposals.

Talks - Rather than just offering 30 minute slots (25 mins talk + 5 mins Q),
we will ask for proposals for 20 minute talks and 40 minute talks (both with an
extra 5 mins discussion time). This will allow for some more variety throughout
the day.
Around 7 talks (not including the 10 minute sponsor talk slots) as well as a
slot for lightning talks - allow attendees to sign up during first coffee break
and lunch. (This can be a tricky approach but usually once the first person
signs up, the slots fill quickly)

Federico explained his suggestion of having developer sprints on the second
day. The concept is that core developers and community members all come
together and work on OpenWrt/LEDE throughout the day. Not only does this get
work done on the projects but it strengthens community and is great for
networking.
Hauke and Federico will work together looking into this.

Sponsorship - If we have more sponsors we will be able to offer travel
scholarships to core developers or speakers who might not otherwise be able to
attend. Asked for specific suggestions from everyone on people to contact
(other than those I have already reached out to) and they will ask internally.

CFP - people will spread the word that this is now open.
