That would be great. I am trying to git bisect a bug and I have no
idea on top of what commit is 15.05.1 built.

Right, it should be tagged there too!
As I'm now only using the other repo I didn't check there.

Thanks Bruno,

I am sorry I am coming back to OpenWrt after a long break.

I expected the tag also on the Release repo

http://git.openwrt.org/?p=15.05/openwrt.git;a=summary

Here I see only a 15.05 tag. I dont understand the logic. I expect the
15.05.1 to be release from the Release-repo ?

OK. After some prodding with an ADAfruit FTDI adaptor (works fine on an
rPI, but I get no RX from the board on the DGND3700v1. Hammering on
various keys seems to put it in rescue mode though, so TX must be sort
of working & I can flash a new image via tftp!) I have resurrected this
router.

Having flashed a few images, I can confirm that 15.05.1 fails to boot,
but both OpenWRT trunk as of today boots fine & the original Chaos
Calmer 15.05 image boot fine.

Should I try a build from the head of the 15.05 branch? I haven’t
wrestled with the OpenWRT build system as of yet but I’m willing to give
it a go.

Unfortunately I don’t have any logs at all from the failed boot as (see
above) I can’t get any output from the bootloader over the serial cable.
Any hints on this appreciated.

cheers, Phil

I must correct myself on this issue: 3.18.24 did not fix it, but only hide
it. 3.18.27 is affected as well. I'll try to find out what is causing it.

Fortunately, the official 15.05.1 images seem to be unaffected (at least on
the two devices I've seen the issue on, TL-WR841 v5 and v7), but building
the CC HEAD will often yield broken images.

There are multiple reports of this issue already, I've found the following:

https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/21773
https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/21857

The issue is extremely suspectible to timing (or minor differences in the
kernel image?), adding any additional debug output just made it go away in
my tests so far... :/

Great work! :)

One note about the kernel version: 3.18.23 is a very unfortunate choice, as
it contains a regression causing nondeterministic boot hangs (caused by a
faulty backport), which is very easy to trigger on some hardware. This has
been fixed in 3.18.24 (see [1]).
