Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [announce][election] Opening nominations for OPNFV Technical Steering Committee (TSC)

2018-08-31 Thread David McBride
Team,

We've reached the halfway point for the nomination period. Nominations
will close in 1 week, on Sept 7 at 5 p.m. (PT). So far, we have only 5
nominations. Keep in mind that we need to elect 15 people to the TSC, so
keep those nominations coming!

Al,

Great suggestion. I am fine with it.

Wenjing,

Is it ok to re-schedule it to 9/13 so that at least 5 more people can
participate too?

Thanks

Hi Bin and Wenjing,

The proposal to schedule this important session
(especially for testing projects) lands on a
truly bad week for VSPERF folks – 4 of us are
unavailable on the 6th, including our PTL Sridhar.

Is it possible to record the session?
or reschedule to the following week?

Also we have selected an Intern for our project
which begins with containerization, and she is more
likely to be able to joins the week of Sept 10.

thanks for considering this request,
Al

Because the US Labor Day holiday conflict, and we probably don’t want to wait
for another two weeks. I’d like to propose that we have the second meeting in
the Tech-Discuss time slot on Sept 6, and then rejoin the Clover meeting time
afterwards.

Bin,
Is the 9/6 tech-discuss meeting slot open? Thanks.

Eddie Arrage will do an overview and demos to illustrate how OPNFV projects,
esp. testing projects, can adopt and support cloud native, and benefit from it,
and what we can do in achieving the community goals, including adapting the
current CI to be much more agile. It will be demo driven and hands on.

Wenjing

Two weeks from now is US Labor Day holiday... I spoke too soon before studying
the calendar.

That raises a couple of questions:
- Do we want to change the pattern and switch to Aug 27? then going bi-weekly
from there?
- Do people still want to stick with Mondays, which tend to have more holidays?

[opnfv-tech-discuss] How Apex deploys baremetal Jobs?

2018-08-31 Thread mardim
Hello,

I am trying to deploy apex-os-nosdn-nofeature-noha-fraser in sandbox. I am
trying to deploy that in the lf-pod5 node but I am getting an error that not
enough baremetal hosts to deploy compute nodes.

Why I am getting this error? Should I do something special to allocate more
baremetal nodes to deploy computes? Also can I start the build from the
apex-os-nosdn-nofeature-noha-fraser job directly or should I start this from
the upstream apex-daily-fraser job ?

Hi all,

I would like to nominate Cristina Pauna to OPNFV TSC.

  * Name of the nominee: Cristina Pauna
  *   The nominee’s organization: ENEA
  *   Nomination statement:

Cristina is one of the most experienced members of the ARMBand team and she is
also committer to EdgeCloud project to design and develop the reference
platform of edge cloud in OPNFV.

She has been one of the ARMBand point of contacts towards other OPNFV projects
such as Doctor and Dovetail to help ensure that OPNFV community can utilize ARM
infrastructure in best possible way and get their features validated on them.

Among many contributions to the ARMBand and Fuel projects, the ARM
infrastructure in OPNFV and OPNFV in general, she has been making significant
contributions to OPNFV testing and infrastructure projects such as Functest,
Yardstick, Releng, and Pharos.

She is heavily involved in community-wide discussions and contributed to a
broad horizontal of topics, from infrastructure and installer to functionality
and MANO as well as release and documentation.

Cristina’s technical competence, experience, and openness would be very
valuable addition to TSC.

Subject: [opnfv-tsc] [announce][election] Opening nominations for OPNFV
Technical Steering Committee (TSC)

Team,

Today, we begin nominations for a new TSC, consisting of 15 members, in
accordance with the Community Election
Procedures.
  Individuals who are eligible to both vote and run for a TSC position are
those with 20 or more contributions on this list of active
contributors.
  Before nominating someone, please consult the list and verify that the
individual has 20 or more contributions. You may find a schedule of election
activities
here.

PTL Input to the Active Contributor List
Note that the election procedures have a provision for adding and individual to
the active contributor list, who has less than 20 contributions, yet who has
make significant contributions to the OPNFV community. Per the election
procedure:

PTLs have an input on the "active contributor list" compiled over a 2-week
review period (with a view that this step primarily targets at making sure
qualified people that haven't been identified via the metric get added to the
list)
I am working with the TSC to define a specific process for this situation. In
the mean time, if you are a PTL, and you would like to add someone to the
active contributor list, please contact me directly with the name and a brief
statement about why they should be included on the list. Note that this action
simply adds them to the active contributor list, they still must be nominated,
separately. Also, note that the 2-week review period for the active
contributor list, cited in the election procedure, ends on Aug 31.

Nomination procedure

  1. You may nominate yourself, or someone else.

 * Remember that both you and the person nominated must be on the active
contributor
list

infrastructure in OPNFV and OPNFV in general, she has been making significant
contributions to OPNFV testing and infrastructure projects such as Functest,
Yardstick, Releng, and Pharos.

She is heavily involved in community-wide discussions and contributed to a
broad horizontal of topics, from infrastructure and installer to functionality
and MANO as well as release and documentation.

Cristina’s technical competence, experience, and openness would be very
valuable addition to TSC.

Subject: [opnfv-tsc] [announce][election] Opening nominations for OPNFV
Technical Steering Committee (TSC)

Team,

Today, we begin nominations for a new TSC, consisting of 15 members, in
accordance with the Community Election
Procedures.
Individuals who are eligible to both vote and run for a TSC position are those
with 20 or more contributions on this list of active
contributors.

 * Remember that both you and the person nominated must be on the active
contributor
list with
20 or more contributions.
 * If you nominate someone else, I will confirm with that person that
they accept the nomination.

  1. Announce the nomination with a "reply all" to this email prior to 5 p.m.
(PT), Sept 7.
  2. Please include the following information:

 *   Name of the nominee
 *   The nominee's organization
 * A brief statement about the nominees qualifications and contributions
to the OPNFV community.

  1. Nominations close at 5 p.m. (PT) on Sept 7. See the entire election
schedule
here.
As nominees are accepted, I will post the nominee information on this
page.

Thank you for your participation in this important activity for the OPNFV
community. Please let me know if you have any questions.

David

[opnfv-tech-discuss] [xci] Updates on CI Evolution, Dynamic CI, OpenStack Rocky, k8s, MANO, and more

2018-08-31 Thread Fatih Degirmenci
Hi,

It’s been quite some time we provided an update regarding XCI to the OPNFV
community so here it is.

Infra/CICD Improvements/Implementations:

  *   CI Evolution:
 * We are activating different phases in XCI pipelines. Currently verify,
post-merge, and daily are activated.
 * We are gradually increasing the bar for promotion and will be
activating Functest Smoke and Yardstick on different phases.
  *   Scenarios owned by projects:
 * Scenarios are developed in project repos who own them and they get
plugged into XCI.
 * When a patch comes in to the project repo where the scenario is
located, XCI starts the deployment and testing of that scenario and provides
feedback directly on the patch.
  *   Ability to Override Versions:
 * Projects have ability to override versions of upstream components
depending on their needs.
 * This makes it possible for projects to use different versions than
what’s set within XCI by default. (XCI is constantly bumping to later versions)
  *   Full Isolation from Host:
 * XCI leaves nearly nothing XCI-specific on the host system and all the
deployment and test activities are driven from a VM located on jumphost.
 * This enables reproducibility and predictability of CI and also limits
the potential issues that could be caused due to the leftovers on hosts systems.
 * Sandbox users will benefit from this greatly since their machines will
not be heavily impacted by the use of the sandbox so they can use the same
machine for other purposes.
  * Being Agnostic to host OS:
 * Thanks to the isolation summarized above, the OS of the jumphost
doesn’t matter since the user can decide what OS to provision the target nodes
with a single environment variable.
  *   PDF, IDF:
 * PDF and IDF are natively supported.
  *   Dynamic CI:
 * With the help of PDF, IDF, isolation from host and being OS agnostic,
XCI will be ready to demonstrate the concepts of dynamic CI when the baremetal
work is concluded.
  *   Baremetal:
 * Baremetal work is full in progress and it will be available soon.

Versions:

  *   OpenStack:
 *   Rocky
 * XCI brought in OpenStack Rocky same day as OpenStack released Rocky.
  *   OpenDaylight:
 *   Oxygen
 * Will move to Fluorine soon.
  *   Kubernetes:
 *   v1.10.4
 * Will gradually move to the tip of master in collaboration with CNCF
Cross Cloud CI Team.
  *   OSM:
 *   v4.0.1
 * Collaboration with OSM community has started to move to latest on
master.
  *   ONAP:
 * Initial integration using Beijing in collaboration with Orange by
reusing/adapting Ansible role is in progress.
 * Will move to Casablanca and then to master once the initial
integration is concluded.

Scenario/Feature Support:

  *   OpenStack:
 *   Integrated: os-nosdn-nofeature, os-odl-nofeature, os-odl-sfc,
os-odl-bgpvpn, os-nosdn-osm
 *   WIP: os-odl-sfc_osm
 *   TBD: os-nosdn-vmha, blazar, congress
  *   K8S:
 *   Integrated: k8-calico-nofeature, k8-canal-nofeature,
k8-contiv-nofeature, k8-flannel-nofeature, k8-nosdn-istio, k8-nosdn-nofeature
 *   WIP: k8-calico-onap

[opnfv-tech-discuss] lf-pod5 offline in Sandbox CI.

2018-08-31 Thread mardim
Hello Tim, Trevor,

I am trying to run apex-os-nosdn-nofeature-noha-baremetal-fraser job in Sandbox
CI. That job uses only lf-pod5 slave to run but the lf-pod5 slave is offline
because of disk problems.

Can you please give that slave a look ?

Re: [opnfv-tsc] [opnfv-tech-discuss] [announce][election] Opening nominations for OPNFV Technical Steering Committee (TSC)

2018-08-31 Thread Morgan Richomme
Hi

I would like to nominate Cedric Ollivier for the TSC.
He has been involved in OPNFV for a long time now and is the Functest PTL since
Euphrates.
He is a recognized technical leader (several dev awards, rank #1 for
contributions https://opnfv.biterg.io) within and
beyond OPNFV.

In fact he introduced several key concepts in OPNFV testing community:
- xtesting allowing the integration of several new upstream projects (shaker,
vmtp, vEPC, ..)
- alpine dockers / test slicing
- clean management of the upstream dependencies (functest is ready now for
Gambia and Hunter and can even be run on Openstack master)
- functional gating
- parallelization of the tests within CI

From a functional testing perspective, he greatly contributed to align OPNFV
testing quality level to Openstack, which is one of the top Open Source
references.

He is also committer in Openstack, ODL, ONAP and has rich free software
background.

As a member of the TSC, he would help to strengthen the technical views and
affirm the technical leading role of this commitee.

Regards

Morgan

Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [opnfv-tsc] [announce][election] Opening nominations for OPNFV Technical Steering Committee (TSC)

2018-08-31 Thread Frank Brockners via Lists.Opnfv.Org
Dear OPNFV community,

I would like to nominate myself as a TSC member of the OPNFV project.

· Name of the nominee: Frank Brockners

·   The nominee's organization: Cisco

· A brief statement about the nominees qualifications and contributions
to the OPNFV community:
As a Distinguished Engineer in Cisco’s Chief Technology and Architecture
Office, I’m driving software and architecture development for software defined
devices – with a strong focus on open source. I hold a diploma degree in
Electrical Engineering (Aachen University) and a PhD/Dr degree in Information
Science (University of Cologne).
I’m part of the OPNFV TSC since OPNFV’s inception – and have worked with
several other projects that reside under the roof of Linux Foundation
networking, including, ONAP, OpenDaylight, FD.io, and PNDA. One of my focus
areas in open source has been to integrate code and communities, e.g. OPNFV
FastDataStacks which integrates OpenStack, OpenDaylight and FD.io, or PNDA with
ONAP DCAE. I’m also involved the OPNFV Lab-as-a-Service initiative.
Moving forward, I want to help OPNFV embracing cloud native NFV and build
additional bridges and stronger ties to other projects – within and outside the
LFN.

Regards, Frank
