2020-03-03 Thread Monkman, Bob
Sunku,
These first few words are retained from the original Mission
statement. My initial reaction is that we lose a subtle expression of the
community spirit that was certainly one of the hallmarks of early OPNFV days.
As we reinvigorate the mission, I feel like rekindling that sense of community
is pretty important. But I realize this is pretty subjective. I welcome any
other opinions on this.

Thanks Fu Qiao for pulling this together.

One comment, instead of “OPNFV is a project and community for” could we use
“OPNFV is a community based project for”?

Hi, all. We have a few attendees today and we go through the mission statement
and try our best to work our the final proposal as below. We plan to propose
this on today’s TSC. As we planned, today’s TSC is the deadline for this
proposal. Therefore I would suggest people to review the following words before
head and think about your comments.

Final Proposal on Mar.3
Proposal for web statement: OPNFV is a project and community for Communication
Service Providers (CSPs) and their supply chains focused on network
transformation and collaboration to continuously improve the efficiency and
predictability of consuming and deploying NFV infrastructure, VNFs, and CNFs.
Iterating through implementation of toolsets, automation, verification,
conformance, and performance, aligned with normalized architectures, and
enabling the community to drive down cost and time to revenue for new network
services.

Proposal for the Charter
##Need stronger statement about the gaps of integration and testing we are
going to cover to imporve the efficiency and predictability##
The mission of the Project is to integrate and build tests, tools, and
components for NFV infrastructure. OPNFV does this by:
(a) developing an integrated, tested, and certified open software reference
infrastructure (including interfaces to hardware), with tools of its own design
and from upstream testing projects.,
(b) contributing changes to and influencing upstream projects leveraging the
reference infrastructure,
(c) building new open source components within the reference infrastructure
where needed,
(d) leveraging open implementations to drive an open standards and
open-source-based ecosystem for NFV solutions,
(e) supporting and maintaining the strategic framework of the Project through
the technologies made available by the organization to make the Reference
Infrastructure testing, certification, and deployment a success.

Fu Qiao, et al,
I had promised that I would offer another proposal, at least
for the main public Mission statement, before tomorrow. I am waiting for some
feedback on my draft thoughts but I only got it to them Friday morning. I will
add it to the wiki before our meeting in 8 hours, in any case.

Regards,
Bob

HI, all. I just checked the working progress page and there is still no further
comments. Just a reminder that we will have a final discussion for the mission
statement on this week’s sub-committee call, which is Monday UTC 23:00-24:00.
Please make sure your comments are expressed on the wiki page so that we can
have an efficient call. Currently we have 1 proposal for the mission statement
in the Charter, and 3 for the web.

Hi, all. First, thank you for join the discussion this morning for the OPNFV
2.0. We have comparably good attendance and quite contributing discussion this
morning.
I did some conclusion on the working progress as follows, just try to
concentrate on things we collect comments in today’s TSC call. You can also
find these on the working progress page.
https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/DEV/Working+Progress+Page. Please feel free to
edit the page if you think anything is missing from the tables or anything you
feel differently. We are also open for comments for the current proposals.
What we will do next is to propose these to the TSC on Feb. 25, collect further
comments. Bob Monkman will help to go through the comments and try to polish
the whole proposal before next sub-committee call on Mar. 2. And we would like
to have a final proposal on next week’s TSC call. So, to improve the
efficiency, I would suggest people to provide your comments on today’s TSC call
or at least no later than Feb. 26 on the wiki page, to make sure your comments
are captured by the sub-committee.
Thank you!
Progress for sub-committee call on Feb. 24
There are two mission statement, one in the TSC charter which the group thinks
should be rather broad to cover the work we are working on, and one on the
website which we need to be more specific with the goal we plan to accomplish
in the following 1-2 years. The following contents try to capture and conclude
the suggestions we made for the two statement. It would be suggested to make
your follow up comments on these ones so that we can quickly restrain to some
statement that most people can agree with.
1. mission statement in the charter.

Qiao Fu tiny modification on the
previous mission statement in the charter to capture the words for reference
infrastructure, which actually ha
