Listener problems

2001-11-25 Thread Tatireddy, Shrinivas (MED, Keane)

Hi lists,

I have some problem with my listener. That is resolved with the help of
metalink. But I have a doubt in this regard.

When I try to see the status, lsnrctl status 816LISTENER

the statement hung for 10 minutes. I checked metalink and found the
solution was,
probably the size of listener.log is very big. So archive/remove it.

In the mean time , this was resolved by another group of DBAs.

In such a situations how to create another listener.log.

If I stop/start the listener, this will affect the clients who are
running trnx.

how do i create another log.

And how to know the size of listener.log (There is no parameter for
this)
is is o/s dependent?

Thnx and regards,
Srinivas

Hi

I am not sure if I have understood ur problem
but can u please try this

 1. cd $ORACLE_HOME/dbs

 2. ls -alt lk*.ora

 3. if there is any file by the name
lk.ora where db_name is the database name
and NOT SID then try removing this file and
starting up the database again.

do this ONLY if this database is NOT
   a. standby or
   b. Oracle parallel sever
( init.ora does NOT have any parallel server parameters!)

Hi,

Yes the SID is the same as the one I shut down. Also, when I try and start
the database up it is giving me an ORA-01102 error (Cannot mount database in
exclusive mode at startup).

The other db on the system is shutdown properly.

I had thought that only Win NT gives ORA01102 errors - not Unix - (but I;m
wrong ofcourse!)

2001-11-25 Thread Peter . McLarty

Look in your /etc/services or inetd.conf file.

It sounds like Morpheous still has a listener attached to the port and you need to remove the reverence to 1521.  If inetd.conf needs editing you will need to send a kill -1 to the inetd process to re read the inetd.conf

Hi,

I've installed Morpheus.
Right after that I couldn't attach to Oracle ( 8.1i under Windows Nt),
because the 1521 port was already used.
(that's why the listener couldn't start)

I uninstalled Morpheus but the port is still used.
I've tried other ports but every one seems to be used.

Thank you in advance

There has been a version of Oracle for Solaris on Intel available for

not be any Solaris Intel Oracle 9, so 8i is the end of the line for the

Hi,
Ms sql server itself has a migration utility which is better than Oracle's,
and supports more diverse kinds of database and data types.
I myself used that utility for transfering data from text files into oracle
8.1.7
give a try
cheers :)

2001-11-25 Thread Mark Leith

How
about trying the other way around - pushing the data from SQLServer to Oracle?
There was a tool in SQL7 (not sure if they still have it in SQL2000 but I should
think they do) called DTS (Data Transformation Service), that will transfer your
tables with the data over to Oracle.. Have a read up about it to see if it fits
your requirements..

Oracle provides a tools called Oracle Migration qworkbench that works
pretty well.
Make sure that you change the table owner names etc to the correct
