Unix host name change - what happens to db?
My boss has decided to change the name of the Sun OS 2.8 host of my Oracle 8i databases. Question: how does this name change affect my Oracle software installation and my databases? Has this happened to any of you? Thanks, Carmen Rusu
system tablespace with oracle software on same
Hi Oracle gurus: Old db question: best db file layout accross filesystems/disks. (unix - Solaris 2.8, Oracle 8.1.7.4) I have inherited a db file layout recommendation that says to put oracle software and db system tablespaces on the same filesystem /u00/ This is for a production system and it doesnt seem ok to me. What experiences do you have in your environments with this? SunOS 5.8 I/O buffer size?
Kevin Loney's Oracle8i DBA Handbook says you need to know the "operating system's I/O buffer size" in order to set the init param DB_FILE_MULTIBLOCK_READ_COUNT correctly. What is the definition of "operating system's I/O buffer size Loney is talking about? What is the value of " I/O buffer size" for SunOS 5.8? Went to Sun's web site and got lost...I just want two straight answers to my two questions.
