RE: Oracle-L at UKOUG
Yes please. I am flying down from Edinburgh on the Monday morning and I have never been to this before so any guidance about what to do would be appreciated. Beer / food sounds good, though. RE: HP-UX 11i/8.1.7/SAP
We have one Sap box on 1527 and one on 1528. >From memory, Sap creates the listener on 1527 on each box, and when I built the production box, I moved the second listener to 1528. I discovered the 1527 anomaly when porting the tnsnames entry created into the central tnsnames file that we use for our monitoring tool. Heather Hey Gang... If you have a SAP instance, what is your listener port? Any do's and dont's for a 9i oracle installation on RedHat Linux
I am installing RedHat Linux and oracle 9i on two RM servers. I have never run Linux before. I usually run HP L-class or Sun Sparc servers with 8/8i. I would welcome emails with tips anybody has for avoiding anything I don't know that I should be avoiding yet, if you see what I mean! OT: Does anyone know why running startx, after boot-up to a Linux text prompt, causes the shutdown -r to hang the box and not reboot? OT: Thanks for replies to locally managed tablespaces
Thanks for all the help I received, especially as this was my first posting. LMTs are now a separate, and definitely, tested, project for the future. >From us here in Edinburgh, Scotland, have a peaceful Christmas and a memorable Hogmany! Locally managed tablespaces
I have just heard today that an external consultant, who is coming to upgrade software for our Student Records system next week, wants to unload the live, test and training databases, and recreate them using locally managed tablespaces. I've been reading all the incredibly positive things oracle have to say about this, but has anybody any real experience of using locally managed tablespaces, and if so, are there any major disadvantages or knock-on effects that I should be aware of? Apart from trying to find disk space to unload each database to do this, would it have any additional space implications? Basically, I need to decide if I should let this go ahead.
