cold backup copies
create backup controlfile to trace -- edited for the new file locations
keeping the SID the same

created init.ora from spfile
startup nomount pfile=init.ora

Just checking to see if anyone has been able to clone a 9.2 DB from one

am just wondering if I have overlooked something peculiar to 9i. Thanks in

Last week I was bit by a corrupt block on an index. I run Analyze every
week which I found has been blowing up for some time due to the block
corruption. Since Analyze does not create a log I did not know the Analyze
was blowing up. Now I know that there are messages in the alert log that
would have told me I had problems with the Analyze and the index.

To make a long story short I need a good log scan script. Hopefully one
that will work on Unix and NT. Mainly Unix. If anyone can help I would
appreciate it.

RE: TZ in AIX

2001-04-04 Thread Durinda.Jones

Rahul,

You can set the time so it won't recognize Daylight Savings Time, if that's
what the problem is. The sysadmin needs to do the following:

smitty
choose System Environments
choose Change / Show Date and Time
choose Change Time Zone Using System Defined Values

You'll get a pop-up window that asks the following:
Use DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME?x
  x
x
x Move cursor to desired item and press Enter.
x
  x
x
x # Does this time zone go on
x
  x # DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME?
x
  x #
x
  x 1 yes
x
  x 2 no

Depending on what you choose, you'll get a list to set the timezone. This
should take care of it.

a

of a
table F1_V.

Fron SQLPLUS on NEAR I can select * from F1_V@FAR no problem. But when I do

select *
from N1 N, F1_V@FAR F
where N.col = F.col;

Here we are getting a 1041 error "hostdef extension does not exist". This
is a

Set IGNORE=Y, SHOW=N in your import parameters. The table already exists,
so you need to ignore errors, otherwise it won't import the rows. SHOW=Y
will only list the contents of the export file, so it needs to be set to N
(or not set it at all) so the rows will be imported.

I would use care using the DESTROY=Y parameter. This could create a serious
problem if you were to use it in a full import.

FROMUSER/TOUSER parameters if you are wanting to change the owner of the
table. If you still want TEDDY to own the table, you don't need to use
FROMUSER/TOUSER. The SUN user has DBA privilege, which will allow it to
change to the TEDDY user and import the table.

I would use care using the DESTROY=Y parameter. This could create a serious
problem if you were to use it in a full import. This overwrites existing
datafiles. I seldom use it in day-to-day operations.

Ruth,

It's probably because you work for a government agency. I used to work for
the federal government, and have found that a lot of things have changed
since I went to private industry. Support and dealings with some vendors
(not to mention any names) have changed dramatically. That's still not
enough to make me want to go back to that sweatshop.

By the way, CA is less than helpful here, on the Oracle or the DB2 side of
