Reasonable layout for DSS
Does this layout seem reasonable as a starting point for a Windows 2003/Oracle 9.2 DSS database? Volume 0 Mirrored 33 GB OS (Windows 2003) Volume 1 Mirrored 33 GB Oracle Home / Archive Logs / UNDO Volume 2 Mirrored 33 GB Redo / Temp / System Volume 3 RAID 5 409 GB Data1 / Index2 Volume 4 RAID 5 409 GB Data2 / Index1 It's possible I could get the sa to split out another set of Mirrored drives from one of the RAID 5 volumes, but it was like pulling teeth to get any non-RAID 5 volumes. LPAR on AIX and Oracle Licensing
Our systems folks are talking about consolidating a couple of machines by using LPARs. If we have a machine running AIX with 6 processors, can we license Oracle with 2 processors if those are segmented out within an LPAR? It's always a challenge to get hold of our sales rep, so I thought I would ask here. AIX Oracle 9.2
If I have Oracle 9.2 on AIX 4.3.3 and we upgrade to AIX 5.1, do I need to re-install the Oracle 9.2 software or will it all just work after the upgrade? Anybody know? Hotsos Clinic
I have an opportunity to attend a Hotsos Clinic. It seems I have heard good things about them on this list, but I thought I might double-check. Is this 3-day class worthwhile or is it an expensive way to sell their product? Will this class be beneficial, even if we don't buy their product? RE: 9i Client permission required on WinXP
I believe that we solved this by specifically giving access to the registry key [ORACLE] to the Users on the machine that required it. The administrator that helped us with this isn't in today, so I can't be totally sure. If I track down his write-up I'll post it. Keith H. -Original Message- From: Jared Cooper [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, November 26, 2002 4:39 AM To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L Subject: 9i Client permission required on WinXP We've recently upgraded many client machines to WinXP and found that the only way we can get the 9i client to connect to the server is if the windows user account is an administrator on the client machine. We've tried giving full access to the c:\oracle and c:\program files\oracle directories to the windows user, also the various references found in the windows registry, but this doesn't work. Only if the user is a local administrator can they connect. Each time we try to get a connection with a restricted user we get ORA-01019 unable to allocate memory in the user side - But we've also seen errors relating to NLS_LANG. Does anyone know which permissions to set on which Oracle directories / registry keys / whatever, to allow a restricted windows user to connect to Oracle (or is there more to it than this)? Authentication with Active Directory
We have several databases spread out over Unix and NT Servers. I have been given the task to find out what it will take for our users to log in to the databases with their AD Id/password. Has anybody out there done this? Here are some questions I have: 1) Do I need to have Advanced Security Option? 2) Does Enterprise Login Asst. factor into this? 3) Does Oracle internet directory factor into this?
