view contents of datafile

2001-07-11 Thread Leyden, Joseph

If my tablespace became so big that it had 3 datafiles
and became so fragmented, then I export and import
the whole databse, how can I tell if the REORG only
used up one or two datafiles.

OR is there a utility to see contents of a datafile?

Hi All,

I have a few off-topic questions for those of you who are allowed to work
from home either occasionally or on a regular basis. My department is
putting a proposal together to present to management and we're looking for
any information you could provide. How did you handle accountability? How
did you handle communication between work and home? What were some of the
unforeseen problems that you encountered? Were there any specific company
benefits? (This appears to be more a benefit to the employee than to the
company.) Thanks to all who can reply.

RE: how to make a file writable by anybody?

do chmod 666 del_base_sched.dat

-Original Message-

Hi all,

How to make a Unix file writable by anybody? The file
should be owned by dba, but also writable by non-dbas.

-rw-rw-rw- 1 jcsora dba0 May 21 16:00
dbbackup_sched.dat
-rw-rw-r-- 1 jcsora dba0 May 21 16:01
del_base_sched.dat

Currently dbbackup_sched.dat file can be written by
tester and other people, I'd like to make
del_base_sched.dat the same thing. After I did chmod
+w del_base_sched.dat, it only changes the 6th
character to be w, but not the 9th.

Thanks, Andrea

I had experienced the same problem. That was because of

It's bugs if you are using 805.

Hi Joe,

What version of Oracle do you use?

In 815 and upstair you can use logon trigger.
Inside the trigger try to determine IP address of
the current session using the following sikvel:

select sys_context('USERENV', 'IP_ADDRESS') from dual;

I haven't tryed this policy yet but I believe it should work.
Let me know if it works for you

That is correct! I should NOT have said 'COLD'

I just backed-up the files using the OS and I'm
really not interested in current data.

Can I bypass these control files? I know I can
drop redo logs.

He didn't try to restore from the backup, he just backed up the database
when it was open. unless I misunderstood everything.

Very possible,

I would think that it is definately in a strange state. I know that if
you
did this with NT, meaning the database was running and you copied the
files
to another location. I am pretty sure you wouldn't be able to get it to
run, I am not even sure that it would copy all of the files.

The best thing you can do is shut the database down. Do a cold back and
through the other one away. Just because you did a backup doesn't mean
that
you database is in a strange state. Just start over.
