Is Oracle's web site down? I just decieded to try J2EE Web Services CD they sent me. It has all the goodies in password-protectd ZIP files and tells to go to http://www.oracle.com/go/?Src="">and fill registration form to get the password. What a pity. The site is down just in the omemnt you need it most. Could anyone who tried out the CD share the password? Thanks in advance, Nick.

UNIX stores time as amount of seconds passed since the 1st of January 1970. Since it is 32-bit value in modern Unices, it can hold up to 2,147,483,648 or approximatively 68 years. The counteroverflows on 19th of January 2038 at 3:14:07 AM. People believe that all the hardware will be 64-bit by that time. But apparently it is not the case in Nepal. Oracle, internally can handle dates well beyond that. It is definitely W2K's deficiency. Any other 32-bit platform will have it too. Looks like the only solution is to move to a 64-bit platform/OS. The suit was over their derivative use of the phrase Windows. Seems Microsoft thinks only they can use the word. I seem to recall the suit was thrown out, but I could be wrong. The last I heared from this case is judge ordering to investigate whether window is still a ditinctive word in computer industry as oposed to carpentry carpentry where it is descriptive; and whether Windows trademark is still valid in computer industry context. Both answers a are expected to be No. The lawsuit is expected to be dropped. But who knows. They won antitrust case after all. Not all DBMS have features of RDBMS. dBase or IBM's IMS are that come to mind. Oracle was the first commercial Realtional Database Management System. And it was relational from day one (version two :), and it was built with relational theory in mind. IBM was the first to implement RDBMS though. It was called System R, or something, later it became known as DB2. Take a look at this paper: http://www.mcjones.org/System_R/SQL_Reunion_95/index.html Very fascinating reading. They tell how Larry was trying to get tle list of DB2 error codes so that Oracle would be compatible with it. Also a bit about Larry luring IBM engeneers promising that they would become millionares with Oracle.
