Code to Validate email addresses
Hi, We have implemented a form that emails reports. The user has to enter his email address. However, we are finding that a lot of users are entering incorrect and invalid email addresses. Obviously, we can do nothing if they enter an incorrect (but syntactically correct) email address. What I am looking for is: 1) A definition of the syntactically correct format of an email address (from some sort of authoritative source) 2) Hopefully some pl/sql code that will validate a sting to see if it is a valid email address. If anyone can assist, I would appreciate it! RE: database consistency tools ?
Hi, Donning fire-proof suit I did a year's worth of COBOL at a large bank. I would rather walk around companies selling sandwiches than code in COBOL again! I used to be a fair 'C' programmer, with a touch of Pascal / APL and assembler (even wrote a floating point library for an 8087), and can write a tidy bit of PL/SQL ... In all the large corporates I have worked in, the Cobol departments have been incredibly structured/rigis (adding a column to a table took 6 working days, AFTER rrhe request had been filled out in triplacte and authorused ...) /end of flame Regards Oweson Flynn -- Abstinence is the thin end of the pledge. Multi-platform Editors - Was: Unix
Hi Roland, (DISCLAIMER - I have no interest in Pacemaker software, other than that Paul has a good product) I use an editor called CRiSP extensively - it is a GUI-based version of a character based editor called Brief (from Underware), that got bought by Borland (remember them ...). It runs under Windows, Unix, Linux It has lots and lots of features (including the ability to FTP a file from a UNIX server, allow you to edit it locally, and then FTP it back, if you really want to). But you could also edit the file directly on the server if you wanted to. It is also the only editor that I know that will allow you to highlight a COLUMN, and then do regular expression changes on the column. Unlimited Undo's, file compares, extensible etc. etc. Colouration of reserved words (including SQL) - very configurable -. Pricing is extremely good as well (GBP 150.00 for Win/Nt), and he is constantly working to improve it. You can also buy locked or Floating licenses. Works well with your favourite complier to become an IDE (allows you to compile from within the editor, picks up the output and displays the errors and highlights the offending lines) Go to www.pacemaker.co.uk and have a look - you can also download an evaluation copy there. ORA-6508 using Citrix/NT2000, Forms 6.0.8
Hi, (I apologise for cross-posting, but we are totally stuck ...) Our Environment: Oracle 7.3.4 database (on Solaris) Forms 6.0.8 Citrix 1.8 Metaframe (on Win NT/2000 sp1) We get 'ORA-06508 PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called' errors on a regular basis recently. We are trying very hard to isolate the cause, without much luck. We cannot re-produce the error consistently, and cannot cause it to happen on demand - it seems to happen at random. We have checked - all stored program units (in the database) are valid and accessible. It has only been happening (or at least, it has only been noticed), since we upgraded to Developer/6 and Citrix 1.8. (At least the upgrade to Oracle 8 hasn't happened yet, so IT can't be blamed ...) We THINK that it only seems to happen when in a Citrix session - nobody can recall it occurring using a 'direct' connection. It happens in various forms, and other users can use those forms simultaneously, without an error occurring. We have been investigating things like the timeouts, memory leaks (in Citrix) but without luck. We logged a TAR, but as we can't give them a reproducible case, they have closed it. Citrix say it's an Oracle problem. Microsoft say 'change to SQL Server' (just joking ...) Anybody got any ideas / had a similar experience? Just something to consider, if he goes ahead with this request: How would you distinguish between the 11 of February 1999 ( 1121999 ) and the 1st of December 1999 ( 1121999 )? If he is prepared to enter both digits of the month (at least) then this could result ion a non-ambigous date - my examples above would be 11 of February 1999 ( 11021999 ) and the 1st of December 1999 ( 1121999 - the 'leading' zero on the 1st has been dropped ) Regards Oweson Flynn -- Certified Oracle DBA The Flynn Consultancy Tel: 082-600-7-006 Fax: (011) 782-9313 EMail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- Sent: 30 April 2001 05:00 To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L Mohammad, This really depends on the front end tool you are using. OT: Submitting a URL to Search engines

But I will need to make all the search engines aware of the URL of the new site. - How do I do this? I have seen ISPs offering to 'submit your URL to 100/200 search engines', but they normally want a fee for it - How can I do this myself? - Must I do it manually, or can I create some sort of procedure/script to do it? - Where do I get a list of all these search engines - I can only think of the top 5 or 6 like Yahoo and Google! I'm posting this to both the Database and Developer Lists in the hopes that someone has seen this at either the Form or Database level. We have a form in an application (Forms 6.0) designed to allow the user to create and update records in a table called FLOCKS. To create a new record, the user enters a new Flock ID and is presented with a blank record in the form to update and eventually save. The user can update an existing FLOCK record by entering the desired Flock ID. The form will look up the record and present the existing information in the form and allow it to be modified. Under the hood, the user is actually entering the Flock ID into a text item in a CONTROL block. The WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM trigger checks a number of things, including whether or not a record for the specified Flock ID already exists. If it exists, the variable :GLOBAL.NEW_FLOCK is set to "N", otherwise it is set to "Y". After the validation is complete and the variable is set, the default block navigation takes the user to the DETAIL block. The WHEN-NEW-BLOCK-INSTANCE trigger then fires with the following code: if :global.new_flock = 'N' then execute_query; else clear_block(NO_COMMIT); end if; In the Property Palette of the DETAIL block the Database "Where" clause is specified as "FLOCK_ID = :CONTROL.FLOCK_ID" so that the EXECUTE_QUERY built-in will populate the block with the one (and only one) matching record. About 2 weeks ago, one of the application users called me to report a problem accessing one of the FLOCK records using this form. She kept receiving a "FRM-40401: Query returned no records." error for one and (so far) only one record in the table. Using the debugger, I was able to verify that the WHEN-VALIDATE- ITEM trigger was correctly locating the record in question and setting the :GLOBAL.NEW_FLOCK record as expected. However, when the EXECUTE_QUERY built-in executed, the FRM-40401 error popped up. It seemed that the WHERE clause in the Block Properties was failing to find the record. SQL*PLUS, as well as several other forms were able to locate and display or list the record contents with no problem - but they did not use the WHERE clause property of a data block. The situation arose on a production database running Oracle 8.1.5 Standard Edition on NT 4.0, but the same record worked fine on my testbed machine (Personal Oracle 8.0.4 on NT Workstation). Over the last 2 weeks, Oracle Support has come up dry in terms of giving me any rational explanation for this. Under pressure to get the problem fixed, I discovered that deleting the record and copying the same record from my testbed back to the server did not resolve the problem, but deleting the record and asking the user to re-enter the details worked. Problem solved, but by the time the TAR finally made it through the triage process and a knowledgeable Analyst started working on it, I could no longer reporoduce the problem. The TAR is now soft closed and if the same error happens again, I have a short list of things to poke at in the database. On the Forms side, has anyone had a similar problem appear in the WHERE clause of a Block, and on the Database side has anyone run into a situation where a query for a record (specifically part of a Forms Application) has failed even though the records exists? --- Gary Norwell, Database Developer Hybrid Turkeys a Division of Nutreco Canada 650 Riverbend Drive, Suite "C" Kitchener Ontario Canada N2K 3S2 (519) 578-2740 Fax (519) 578-1870 === -- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.com -- Author: Gary Norwell INET: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fat City Network Services-- (858) 538-5051 FAX: (858) 538-5051 San Diego, California-- Public Internet access / Mailing Lists To REMOVE yourself from this mailing list, send an E-Mail message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (note EXACT spelling of 'ListGuru') and in the message BODY, include a line
