Standby Databases and DB Links
Has anyone been successful in using their standby database operating in read-only mode through a dblink? I can't find any admonishment in the docs. The dev guys says it will be find for the front-end java code to fail on any updates. Synonym on Standby Database
Has anyone tried to use their standby database as a read-only database through db links and mapped to synonyms? I'm having problems creating one (12145 e.g.) and am now wondering whether it is even possible. This is to alleviate the downtime in the event of single table failures in production and have the app point to the standby for reading while we fix it. The application is coded to transparently handle the write errors. Locking
Recently, one of my users nor I could update a table. As I dug around, I couldn't find any of the 'lock' tables such as dba_locks. Eventually, I managed to start data gatherer and get OEM's lock manager to kill the hung session. What do you guys do to find and terminate this deadlock or hung sessions? Are the 'lock' system tables built with specific options during db build?
