 All -

This might be a newbie question but I want to double check. I have a
user that dropped a table yesterday that he owned by mistake. Besides
the security issues going on here, do I need to drop this user first
before bringing his table from tape? Can I just restore the table to
his schema? I am running 8.1.7. on Unix. Will this corrupt the
 control files from being insync?

Any advice quick would be appreciated!!!

 Thanks,

 LeRoy

Re: Error while running export backup shell script

2003-03-21 Thread Rukmini Devi N
Hi Ranganath,

I think you must be executing this script from oracle user. It seems you
do not have execute permissions on mknod command. Ask your sysadmin to give
access to that command.
or
run this script from root user by exporting the ORACLE_SID ORACLE_HOME.

Re: how to get metalink user name ??

2003-03-17 Thread Rukmini Devi N
hello scott,

You will get the metalink support in the following ways:

   1. your organization should be partner to Oracle
2. your organization should take Annual support contract from Oracle

If you have the any of the above , then go to metalink.oracle.com and find
out the CSI number to register for an account to the metalink web site.

(my understanding is that) if you are paying any kind
of support contract with oracle (bronze etc) you have
access to metalink. Contact support on the phone and
they should be able to tell you the various details

Saroj, you must create two files, SXXXOracle and KXXXOracle,
in /etc/rc2.d, for example, where XXX are numbers. So when your machine
reboots that files starts Oracle Database and listeners. Well, first,
because second is to stop database and listener. This is a question of
Unix start. Due to I'm not really sure how can you do it, it's better
you see at that directory, /etc/rc2.d, and look any pair of files to
 see it.

Remenber SXXXOracle is to start Oracle and listeners and KXXXOracle
 is to stop its.

Re: How can I get my DB back if I lost one of my rollback segment (rb

2001-08-14 Thread Rukmini Devi

Hi ,
Your problem should be more specific.
here I am giving 2 solutions. Pl. choose whichever is applicable.
I.
 1. comment the rollback segment in initsid.ora file.
 2. connect internal
 3. startup mount
 4. Create rollback segment rbs02 with datafile rbs02.dbf(same as your
earlier file)
5. alter database open
II.
1. comment the rillback segment in initsid.ora file.
2. startup the database
or explain your problem more clearly.

deletion of data from a large table

I have deleted 3 lakhs records from a large table. But there is no effect

freespace after deleting the data ?

I think this is happening because when you DELETE data the High Water
 Mark(HWM) is not lowered. Essentially
you have not gained any freespace. If possible you could export remaining
 data truncate table then re-import.

Correct me if I am wrong here.
