Re: Compare Schemas
Ron, You can use Oracle's Change Manager to compare schemas for two different databases. It has a nice feature that will even let you compare two schemas in different databases with different names. I have used the tool, and it shows all the differences with drill down detail. Traci L. Rebman Oracle Database Administrator R.R. I tried Toad, which will tell me there are differences but it won't say what the differences are. Does anyone have a script that will show the differences in detail? Re: cannot delete jobs in OEM ???
Leslie, You might want to check that the agent is running on the DB server that the jobs are scheduled, and refresh the node in OEM. If that doesn't work, you could stop the agent, remove the node in OEM, and clean up the *.q files for that agent ($ORACLE_HOME/network/agent), then re-discover the node. I believe when you remove the node, it will force those jobs to be deleted in OEM. Traci L. Rebman Oracle Database Administrator R.R. On Jobs' Active tab, after I highlighted some jobs and click Remove Jobs, the jobs are still there, and the status shows Deleting, but they are never actually deleted. The agent, ManagementServer are running. Preference Credential user is set with Log on as a batch job rights. Looks like command never sent to the agent! What's going on? Thank you. Re: Oracle Licensing - Concurrent users
Ron, It is funny you mentioned this, just last week our corporate office asked us to run a script...provided by Oracle...to gather user/session information to determine if we have enough licences. The thing that I found odd, was that they wanted this information from every single database including all development, test, stress, production, and crash & burn. I have never heard of Oracle doing this before...we thought maybe management was trying to determine if we have enough work to do :) I am glad to hear that we are not the only ones being asked for this information. Below are the requirements we were asked to follow. 1. The DBA's must provide the 5 critical pieces of info( for each database) necessary in order to start our licensing auditing: Server name (must be in DNS) Database Name Connect String Oracle Version Application Type 2. DBA's must create a user LMS on each database to be monitored. The enclosed script must be run in order to create a LMS user. We will modify our TNSNAMES.ora to remotely access this information from the information on the OSW worksheet that is returned. 3. DBA's must add this process to create the LMS user & give Corporate access to monitor new databases on a on-going basis in order for RRD to comply with Oracle licensing agreements. Traci L. The previous DBA used /opt/oracle/ as his ORACLE_BASE. I have since moved everything to a more ofa-like structure and changed all the pointers and stuff. Now, though, when I run the 8.1.7 installer from the CD, it tells me... Installation cannot continue.: Permission denied [oracle8 SD_CDROM]$ [oracle8 SD_CDROM]$ I have looked and looked for something pointing to /opt/oracle. I cannot find a thing. I do not want to create a link there because that will just perpetuate the problem. Does anyone know where the installer looks for this stuff? TIA, Mike --- === Michael P. Hot backup and TEMP tablespace
I was wondering if anyone could offer any suggestions to this issue, or the pro's and con's... We are trying to shorten the time frame that it takes to complete our Oracle hot backups, and the subsequent file copies to tape. I have read that it is ok to skip the TEMP tablespace, and then do an off-line drop of the datafile(s) in the temporary tablespace, drop the tablespace, and then recreate it. Our temporary tablespaces are 900mb, and they take a chunk of the total time it takes to complete the hot backups. Are there any issues or ramifications of not including that tablespace in the event of a recovery? It seems to me that it would be much quicker to re-create that tablespace if needed. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Traci Rebman Oracle Database Administrator R.R.
