Re: Setting db_block_size with installer

2002-07-09 Thread Yechiel Adar

Igor, since you wanted it to be as before,
you would like to hear that my DBCA on the last screen
gives also an option to create the scripts.

It bombed on some Java error so I can not verify
that the scripts are created ok, but the screen is there.

2002-07-09 Thread Igor Neyman

No, it does not generate sql-script (as it did in previous version).
All you get is a template (in XML format), which you can only run in dbca.
I like the way, it was before.

RE: Setting db_block_size with installer

2002-07-08 Thread DENNIS WILLIAMS

Chris - DB_BLOCK_SIZE is still there definitely. And I am confident that a
create database script from 8.1.7 will work against 9.2 just fine. The issue
is that the dbca (GUI Database Configuration Assistant) wants to create
everything as 4k block size.

Rachel, Joe - Thanks for the suggestions on how to get around this. I will
be looking into your suggestions. And yes, I mis-typed 8192 in the email,
but had it correct in the database.

Hello! So is there a DB_BLOCK_SIZE to set for the database? Or has that
been deprecated? And from now you will have to set the block size for each
tablespace?

I just installed 9.2 this weekend and my database block sizes are
8k

you need to set the blocksize on EACH tablespace.

this is from memory, so assuredly not completely correct but should
help point you in the right direction:

for each tablespace, you can define where the datafiles are. Somewhere
on that tab menu, there is a screen that lets you set the blocksize

RE: Setting db_block_size with installer

2002-07-08 Thread Grabowy, Chris

Dennis,

Does it really say '8182', or is that a typo?

Subject:Setting db_block_size with installer

I am trying to install Oracle 9.2 on Solaris using dbca (Database
Configuration Assistant) and didn't see a handy box to set the
db_block_size. I just edited the initialization parameter, but when dbca
started installing the database, it returned the errors:
   ORA-01503 Create controlfile failed
ORA-00058 DB_BLOCK_SIZE must be 4096 to mount this database, not 8182

This made me think that since dbca copies the files rather than creates
them, that it may not be possible to use other than a 4k block size.
But on the other hand, I wanted to use dbca to ensure that I created
the
database like an Oracle 9.2 database, rather than just create it like I
would in Oracle 8i.
Has anyone else faced this issue and have any thoughts to share?

Thanks.
