RE: Which storage solution is good or you will recommend
The high end arrays from EMC and Hitachi, and to a lesser extent NetApp, all have this sort of dial-home functionality. I can't speak for Hitachi (though I've heard good things), but the Symmetrix will dial home for events that seem completely inocuous (a host is rebooted that is attached to the storage, for example), and in many cases a lab tech will dial back into the array to take a look. This could happen many many times a month and is one of the reasons a premium is paid for high-end arrays. Is this Oracle 7? From a world-renowned source I've heard that Oracle 7 contains less KLOC than RAID-F microcode, so simulation might be even faster than the real stuff, although with slighly less capacity I'm afraid Carel-Jan At 13:44 2-12-03 -0800, you wrote: Just wait till we post Jesper Haure's RAID-4/5 simulator, where a home-written XOR function plus a table with column A = disk A, etc... Just wait till we post Jesper Haure's RAID-4/5 simulator, where a home-written XOR function plus a table with column A = disk A, etc... It should be ready RSN. Re: Which storage solution is good or you will recommend
If you got one concurrent user reading these files, go with internal IDE disks. If you got 10 concurrent users, go with EMC Symmetrix (You didn't give us any more information to be more exact...) Btw, in some cases, when you have lot's of data, of which only a little part is used actively, you could go with hierarchical storage systems (HSM), where frequently accessed data is moved to faster disks and rarely used archives perhaps even on tape. (Oh, I forgot that you are storing your stuff in Oracle database... then you'd have to wait until 10g with it's ASM to go somewhat "hierarchical" in sense of storage speed) Tanel. - Original Message - To: "Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, December 02, 2003 10:34 PM > Hi, > > We need storage solution for Oracle database because we store a lot of tiff > images and pdf files with the database, which storage solution are you using > or which one you will recommend? > > Thanks, > > Jack > -- > Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.net > -- > Author: Liu, Jack > INET: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Fat City Network Services-- 858-538-5051 http://www.fatcity.com > San Diego, California-- Mailing list and web hosting services > - > To REMOVE yourself from this mailing list, send an E-Mail message > to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (note EXACT spelling of 'ListGuru') and in > the message BODY, include a line containing: UNSUB ORACLE-L > (or the name of mailing list you want to be removed from). Liu, Jack wrote: Hi, We need storage solution for Oracle database because we store a lot of tiff images and pdf files with the database, which storage solution are you using or which one you will recommend? Thanks, Jack Depending on your budget, I recommend a Hitachi SAN. Fast, 24/7 uptime with guaranteed data protection(They'll even compensate you if you do lose data). We lost a board on our 9970 and it phoned home and a hitachi tech was here the next day to replace it and we didn't even know it was broken. They replace boards and upgrade firmware live. They cost a lot, but well worth it IMO. -Brian -- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.net -- Author: Brian Haas INET: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fat City Network Services-- 858-538-5051 http://www.fatcity.com San Diego, California-- Mailing list and web hosting services - To REMOVE yourself from this mailing list, send an E-Mail message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (note EXACT spelling of 'ListGuru') and in the message BODY, include a line containing: UNSUB ORACLE-L (or the name of mailing list you want to be removed from).
