Hi Gilles,

OK, thanks for the advice. It took two more tryes at installing, but
this one worked. The first one showed up with a problem-- error 17
with Grub. I tried again and this one came up with all the right
stuff. I'm not sure how long I will be using this, but it is a good
learning experience. I would at least, like to get up-to-speed with
Speakup. I like Emacspeak, but Speakup works with so many more
programs. I need to decide between GUI distros like Ubuntu, or
command line distros like GRML.  Ubuntu means buying a new computer;
I'm just not sure it would be worth it for me. Anyway, thanks for the
help.

Jim

As I understand it, if you choose the Debian-like install, you
will lose the speech. Not sure why this is, but that's what I've always
heard.

What I'd been thinking of doing was having Oralux boot up naturally, then
going into the other OS from that. I have one OS on one drive and the
other on a different drive. I seem to remember making that work at some
time, but can't remember now exactly what I did.
This vmWare thing, would that need to go on an OS using X?

I would too but I don't have a hardware synth and don't have any knowledge
of linux. I'd like to use gnome but wouldn't know how to install a software
synth since one doesn't seem to come with gnapernicuss.

Ah; I got rid of my Windows stuff about 2 years ago. Looks like for now
I'll just have to see if I can put Yasr or emacspeak on the Ubuntu drive
for now if I want to use my usual programs without rebooting, and/or wait
on the next ubuntu.

Re: [Oralux] Oralux and sound problem

2006-10-01 Thread mike reiser
I tried the oss cheatcode also as well as the alsa code. It's weird cause I
have a slightly older computer with the same specks and have no problems.

I tried the cheatcode with no success. Does anyone have any other
ideas on how to fix this?

Using 0.7 alpha, as you know it is possible to select the OSS driver
if the ALSA cheatcode does not match. The cheatcode is oss.

The next test version will include more up-to-date ALSA drivers.
