[OGD] clonal registration / AOS (query)
In the AOS Bulletin (July 1965), it is mentioned : Beginning July 1, 1965, the American Orchid Society... will register clones of orchids (page 614). Is that registration still done ? / If not, when and why was it stopped ? Has it been replaced by the registration of awarded orchids by the AOS judging centers ? Thanks in advance for providing an 'informative' answer (references appreciated). [OGD] Cochleanthes marginata / photos and illustrations + article (thanks)
Recently, I asked for help in obtaining images of the species Cochleanthes marginata to illustrate a culture sheet to be published in a French magazine. As mentioned in a previous post, Jay Pfahl (US) helped with two photos. A colleague from Australia, Gary Yong Gee (Australia) also sent a great photo of the species. *** My request for illustrations was fulfilled with generosity by the following colleagues : 1) Dalton Holland Baptista (Brasil) sent scans of illustrations from : a) Curtis's Botanical Magazine (originals) and the book, Orchids from Curtis's Botanical Magazine ; b) Ann Missouri Bot Gard c) Xenia orchidacea 2) Kenneth Roberts (US) sent scans from : a) Pescatorea b) Botanical Magazine c) Dunsterville and Garay's book, Orchids of Venezuela, An Illustrated Field Guide. 3) Jay Pfahl (US) sent a scan from - Orchids of Venezuela, An Illustrated Field Guide 4) Bob Betts (Canada) sent a scan from - Orchids from Curtis's Botanical Magazine * Additionally, Mark Whitten (US) sent a PDF file of his article, published in Lankesteriana, which would support (from molecular data) using the name Warczewiczella marginata for the species. * My gratitude to all for such a great help. Of course, the material used will be published will an appropriate credit line. [OGD] Masedvallia Dwarf Pink
Does anyone have any information about the taxonomic standing of the Masdevallia coccinea grown with the name of Dwarf Pink? Although it looks superficially like a small scale coccinea, there are small differences, most notably the marked color difference in the dorsal sepal, and the presence of dark lines on the sepals towards the center of the flower. Has this plant been noted in the wild, or has it originated in cultivation? Simply curious, Dennis Westler ** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ___ the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) orchids@orchidguide.com http://orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids_orchidguide.com
