What is the deal with ejbRemove() and ejbHomeRemove()
Hi All, I've noticed that when invoking the remove method on the Home interface of an BMP Entity Bean, Orion will invoke the ejbHomeRemove() method defined within the Entity Bean. However, after reading the spec as well as several other references, it seems to me that when you invoke the remove method on the home interface of an BMP Entity Bean, the ejbRemove method defined inside the Entity Bean should be called and not the ejbHomeRemove method. Is this correct? Am I interpreting the specification wrong. I want to ensure that my application is portable across all J2EE application servers and not just Orion. Also, I cannot find any references to the ejbHomeRemove method within the J2EE specification. Thanks in advance for any replies received on this matter. - Andy
Sending Cookies to an ASP Page from a Servlet
Hi, I'm writing a servlet that is to redirect the user to a remote website. This remote website requires me to send three cookies. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to send a cookie using the response.sendRedirect method. The following is a test servlet that I wrote to test sending cookies. HttpSession session = request.getSession(true); Cookie cookie = new Cookie(name, Andy); cookie.setPath(/); cookie.setDomain(.remoteServer.com/); response.setContentType(text/html); response.addCookie(cookie); response.sendRedirect(http://remoteServerDomain/test.asp;); I have also tried putting the addCookie() method after the sendRedirect method as well. No luck though. I would appreciate any help that anyone could give me. Thanks, Andy
Re: JDBC Driver for DB2/400
There are two that I have found to be useful. One is made by Hit Software Inc. (www.hit.com) and the other is IBM's JDBC driver that is contained withing the AS/4-00 Toolbox for Java. I know that IBM's JDBC driver (jtOpen) is open source so it is free where as you will have to buy the license from Hit. Hope this helps. Container Managed Bean Persistence
Hi all Can someone please tell me how Orion knows what datasource to associate with a container managed entity bean. I follow how to setup container managed fields but I don't understand how to relate it to one of several datasource entries that I have setup. Thanks
MS SQL 7.0
Hi all: This question is not specifically related to orion but I'm hoping that one of you might be able to assist me in solving a critical problem. Our system uses a MSSQL database for security validation and user login. Yesterday we found that the LDF grew to 256 mega-bytes and filled up the hard drive of the server. A decision was made to delete the LDF in the hope that MSSQL would recreate the LDF and begin writing to it again. Unfortunately this did not work so they attempted to copy the same LDF back. Now, the server won't start because it has labled our database as suspect. Is there anyway to solve this? Please write back to me if anyone has any ideas. Thank You Sincerely, Andrew Papada IDSS

Capturing the output of a JSP page as HTML
Can anyone tell me if this is possible. I have a JSP page that contains information about an order that was just entered (Essentially a confirmation page). What I want to do is somehow intercept the output stream inside the JSP page and write it to a file, as plain html, which I will later attach to an email and send to someone. Thanks, Andy

Bowser back buttons and jsp
This question doesn't really apply to the webserver in general. I have developed an ecommerce application using java beans and jsp. Unfortunately, during qa testing, one problem keeps coming up. If you click the back button on the browser and ignore the navigation built into the system, you encounter errors. I've researched if there was a way to disable the browser navigation options via javascript or some other way but I found that this is not really possible. What I was wondering is how do other java professionals handle this problem? Has anyone ever ran into this?

Re: User guide
Orion, with it's many configuration files, appears very complex to configure to someone who is working with it for the first time. It would be alot more 'developer' friendly if there was some sort of technical guide, other than the simple examples presented in the jsp pages that are found in the base download. I would think that if Orion were to develop some sort of technical documentation, as other application server distributors have, it would increase it's share in the market. Is there any plan to implement sort of system documentation? [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent by: To: Orion-Interest owner-orion-interest@orion[EMAIL PROTECTED] server.comcc: Subject: Re: User guide 01/05/2001 08:21 AM Please respond to Orion-Interest Don't be surprised. Unfortunately, the documentation, what you can find of it, is very poor. I doubt that an user guide even exists. Re: URL Pathing
Thank you very much for the response. I agree with you but for some reason it is interpreting the slash as the server document root. It only seems to do this in one section of my application. Here's the scenario. There is a point in my application where the user selects the product they wish to order from a list that is presented to them. This list is an ordinary JSP page inside the main browser window. However, once they select this product by clicking on a link, it invokes a small pop-up window which requests that they enter a quantity. Once they enter the quantity and click proceed, the child window closes and returns control to the parent window. The parent window then submits it's form to a servlet which adds the new line to the order. This servlet then redirects the user to a jsp page to display the new line. Inside that servlet and the JSP page it presents, all links and redirects that contain the '/' attempt to send you to the server document root. It seems that whatever is called in relation to the child window that was invoked attempts to reference the '/' as the server document root. I hope this could provide some direction into this issue. Thanks again, Andy
URL Pathing
Ok, I've spent the last week converting an ecomerce system I developed, using Resin as my webserver, to allow it to run on Orion because Orion is the only web server that assumes a '/' means to begin the path search from the application context root rather than the current directory. Now I find that it may not always be the case. In this particular application, I pop up a sub window within my current browser window and from that sub window, redirect to another another page within the main browser window and close the sub-window. When I attempt to use the '/' for my starting reference, Orion now thinks that I'm referencing the server root directory. When I try to add the application context to my url, it then attempts to redirect my request to the application context, within the application context. Is this a bug? It is really confusing on how this server executes requests. Thanks, Andy
Re: Modified Servlets
Thank you very much
Question
What is the default error log on Orion. For example, if I user 'System.err.println', where is this going to. Do I need to initialize this through the System class or does Orion default it somewhere. Thanks, Andy
Re: Question
Thank you very much for the reply. If I were to start orion as an nt service though, where there would be no console, would it go to a specific log? Thanks, Andy
