Re: [osg-users] What about User-Meeting in Europe - osgInEurope?

2009-03-26 Thread Art Tevs
Hi folks,

this is a last reminder about the running poll of the user meeting/conference
city. Current state is:

Paris, France [ 8 ]
Marseile, France [ 0 ]
Strassbourg, France [ 1 ]
Prague, Czech Republic [ 2 ]
Genova, Italy [ 1 ]
Brussel, Belgium [ 2 ]
Zuerich, Switzerland [ 1 ]
Luxembourg, Luxembourg [ 1 ]
Munich, Germany [ 0 ]
Frankfurt Am Main, Germany [ 1 ]
Stuttgart, Germany [ 3 ]
I want to join, I do not care about the city [ 3 ]

So it seems Paris is the leader, however there are still around one week till
the end of the poll (01.04.2009). Make your choice if you interested in this.
Next week I will post the results of the poll and we can start to look for the
venue and the date in the chosen city.

Best regards,
art

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that I am following this thread with
interest, and that I will certainly consider to join. I did not vote
because I don't have an explicit favourite, it would not make sense to
add another city in my country (Netherlands). Could there be another
option like "Don't care about the city, I want to join", that way we can
count the number of interested people.

Hi folks,

I am also very interested in an osg user meeting in Europe. I voted for
Paris, since it is a really nice city in the center of Europe, but all
proposed cities in Germany (Munich, Frankfurt and Stuttgart) are also
fine with me.
The idea about the video conference is also nice, but I do not know
which system we could use.

Hi folks,

last year in april there was a small user meeting in Paris for peoples
attending the training course. However I like the idea to meet us and to show
projects we are currently working on. Also having some more social activity
than just mailing list or forum would be also nice, I think.

Hence I propose to organize another meeting for osg users in Europe. This time we could
meet us again in France, Germany, Switzerland (I now, not Europe but a neutral terrain ;)
) or whatever else. I've started a poll on the forum with proposed cities. If you are
interested in a meeting, you could make your choice there. If there are enough peoples
interested in this, we could make next "osgInEurope" possible. I would suggest
to have it in summer time, so that a combination with a small vacation is also possible
;)

Best regards,
Art

P.S. This is just a test poll to see if there is enough people in the community
which would like to meet other users. I tried to choose the cities, so that
they are all more or less in the geographical center of europe, so that we have
a fair travel distance for most of the european osg users :) If you think, some
city is missing, let me know.

add a new blog (no add blog or similar button ther. Yes, I am logged in). I
suppose, you have first to allow registered users to be able to post to the
blog system. You should find it under Admin->General->Permissions.

Community News: seems also not to work well. Whenever I go to the Community
News page, I get something with "Error: Failed to load processor Blog". I
suppose there is also some misconfiguration.

The venue isn't known yet, this is what the poll is for.

I thought just to make some announcement that there is a poll where users can
vote for the city where they would like to have next meeting/conference. As end
time for the poll, I propose 01.04.2009. We could then extend the deadline if
not enough people voted. Afterwards we would know the venue and could even poll

Hi all,

the idea about a video conference sounds nice. I am not sure, which techniques
are currently exists there to make it possible, but we could try to find out. I
think, if we find enough people for a face-to-face meeting, we could include a
video conference into the conference program. Of course for this we would
require a conference room with high speed and stable internet connection.

I would propose to wait until 01.04.2009 which city will win the votes.
Afterwards we will try to find there a nice place for the meeting. Per video
conference we could put the meeting online and connect other groups (from other
cities) as well.

cheers,
art

P.S. Robert, is it fine with you, if I put some announcement about the upcoming

Hi Miguelle, Rafa,

I didn't included Valencia/Spain into the poll, because the city doesn't lie
centralized in europe. If you take a look onto the europe map and on the chosen
cities, you could see, that cities are chosen to be more or less in the
geographical center of the europe. In this way, I hoped to make it more or less
fair for everybody in respect to travel costs. Of ourse it would be better to
have a "european community center" (center of all community spots based on
number of members) instead of geographical center, however I do not have such
information :(

cheers,

No problem for Paris ! :)
The show at Brussels seems interesting too, and it's a center place in
Europe.

Re: [osg-users] What about User-Meeting in Europe - osgInEurope?

2009-01-30 Thread Art Tevs
Hi all,

Robert, yes, I also thought on something like a mini conference about OSG. This
still can be achieved during this potential user meeting in europe. I was
thinking on reserving small conference room in some nice place and let users
present their software/plugins/nodekits to the attendies. Attendies could also
discuss upcoming evolution of osg and its components. It would be also cool if
you could also attend this small conference/workshop/meeting, so that there is
a direct connection to the main maintainer and code guaridan.
Afterwards we could go into some bar and drink beer or do whatever :)

There are however couple of problems still to solve:
1) how to get enough peoples interested in such an event
2) find best place, so that the travel costs are more or less fairly
distributed over all attendies
3) make a lot of advertisment about new user meeting in europe, which will
include some small conference
4) how to get money for all that ;) ?

As to 1, 2 and 3, I hope forum and the mailing list is a good place to solve
all that question. As to 4, we could try to setup something like a donation
account (on paypal for example). I am able to spend to organize such an event
in europe, however depending on user count my budget could be not big enough.

Cheers,
art

Hi All,

I have been meaning to hold another Highland Gathering. My original
intention was to try and organise such a gathering of minds each year
but have been so swept away with work that I haven't had a chance.
Such a Gathering would a bit different than a straight user meeting
though... rather it's a mini conference/workshop on thrashing out
ideas for the future path that the project could/should take. Obvious
topics for such a gathering would be OpenGL 3.0 + OpenGL ES support,
path to OpenSceneGraph-3.0, community, server infrastructure etc.

Robert.

I didn't know that Swiss cheese was imported from Asia :-p

But sure, I would be interested in such a meeting, if it was happening

[osg-users] What about User-Meeting in Europe - osgInEurope?

2009-01-29 Thread Art Tevs
Hi folks,

last year in april there was a small user meeting in Paris for peoples
attending the training course. However I like the idea to meet us and to show
projects we are currently working on. Also having some more social activity
than just mailing list or forum would be also nice, I think.

Hence I propose to organize another meeting for osg users in Europe. This time
we could meet us again in France, Germany, Switzerland (I now, not Europe but a
neutral terrain ;) ) or whatever else. I've started a poll on the forum with
proposed cities. If you are interested in a meeting, you could make your choice
there. If there are enough peoples interested in this, we could make next
"osgInEurope" possible. I would suggest to have it in summer time, so that a
combination with a small vacation is also possible ;)

Best regards,
Art

P.S. This is just a test poll to see if there is enough people in the community
which would like to meet other users. I tried to choose the cities, so that
they are all more or less in the geographical center of europe, so that we have
a fair travel distance for most of the european osg users :) If you think, some
city is missing, let me know.
