Re: [OSList] Are You a frequent Lurker on OSLIST?

2014-12-10 Thread Satyanarayanan Kumar via OSList
Hi,

I have been lurking on the OSLIST for 3 years now. I absolutely enjoy the
constant reminder about the core of OS principles.

I keep thinking of writing, but then see all the wisdom on the list and think,
that’s it. Why repeat …

Best Regards,

Satya

...the participants at the time were

Daniel Mezick
Karen Davis
Linda Stevenson
Lucas Cioffi
Paul Levy
Peggy Holman
Skye Hirst
Suzanne Daigle
Tricia Chirumbole
Harold Shinsato

We discussed OSLIST culture, and how the culture of OSLIST may not actually be
very easy to figure out...

...we talked about how this list has hundreds upon hundreds of members, with
just 25 to 45 people (give or take) who post or reply with anything close to a
regular frequency, and how some speak with highly authoritative voices.

...we talked a bit about how the culture of OSLIST might actually be kind of
intimidating for new people to participate in.

The Game

We have no idea how many "regular lurkers" are in the group...we talked about
trying to find out.

So: if you are a "regular lurker", someone who examines these OSLIST threads
periodically but does not actively participate ...  are you willing to play a
little game?

The Lurker Game: you are invited to play...

1. ...The goal is to collectively get some idea of how many of us on the list
are "regular lurkers".

2. ...The rules are:

If you consider yourself a "regular lurker", consider opting in to the game, by
replying...
If you reply, absolutely nothing further will be asked of you. All you are
doing is identifying yourself as someone who lurks. That's it.

3. ...We'll all track the progress by watching the thread, and seeing how many
reply over time.

4. ...Participation is opt-in.

To participate, just hit [Reply List] and enter "hey" and press [Enter] ...or...

... (optionally) just say whatever you might want to say, instead

We have no idea what might happen next; let's see what develops.

Thanks!

2014-12-10 Thread Robyn Williams ► via OSList
Hi, mostly lurking for many years.

The experience, curiosity, wisdom and generosity demonstrated through this list
is very important to me, my work and life.

I particularly enjoy the principles of open space as practiced by the
participants:

No admonishments about perceived “off topic” threads,

No shut-downs when (if) there’s a flurry of un-subscriptions due to the above.

With thanks

Re: [OSList] Are You a frequent Lurker on OSLIST?

2014-12-10 Thread Christy Lee-Engel via OSList
Hi Daniel and everyone,

I haven't yet gotten used to the modern meaning of "lurker" and don't ever
identify as one. But I've been an OSList subscriber & once-in-a-blue-moon
post-er since 2003 (that is: since first being life-changingly introduced
to OST).

My active participation is in the listening/reading space at the rim; and
in being in deep friendship with people whom I first got to meet & then
came to love in Open Space somewhere or another; and in applying the
principles of practice in my own life a lot of the time.

It's enlivening to see both the old hands and the new waves of Open Space
lovers in what I have always experienced as a wide and welcoming space here
on the OSList.

Chris was I think an early holder of the record for the largest OST. Until
someone (Michael Pannwitz?) held a larger one.

I mostly lurk too, sometimes throwing in a note from the past. The early OT
symposia and OSONOS conferences were joys I shall not forget.

Always appreciate new voices and perspectives as well.

I am a regular lurker.

For many years I was an active participant. I have been doing OST and
OST inspired work continuously for about 20 years and used to be an
OSONOS regular. A few of the active participants will remember me.

Life got very complicated a number of years ago and, while I still do
the work, I rarely feel comfortable adding my 2 cents. Occasionally
offer my 2 bits... I guess that's what happens when interest accrues
on my 2 cents over time.

I lurk to feel some sense of connection to the OST community and to be
inspired by your work.

Re: [OSList] Are You a frequent Lurker on OSLIST?

2014-12-10 Thread Lourdes Adriana Diaz-Berrio Doring via OSList
Daniel,

I am very happy to be part of this list and to have the honor of having
meet many of you personnaly

I am a lurker and sometimes contributor to the OS Listserve. Some times I
cannot read everything because I feel it is very often but I love and
appreciate to have the feeling that I can share my experiences with this
group and learn form other experiences.
I would like to participate more actively but I am working more in my
groupes de codveloppement professionnel than facilitating OS events ...but
feel connected to many of the topics that have been shared here in this
group.
I also think that if didnt had the chance to know many of you it would be
more difficult to ineract and to ask for help or to ask questions...that,s
concerning new people difficulties...
I hope to see many of you next wosonos!
Adriana

Re: [OSList] Are You a frequent Lurker on OSLIST?

2014-12-10 Thread Chris Kloth via OSList

2014-12-10 Thread NigelSeys-Phillips via OSList
Dear Daniel

I certainly lurk…I confess I do not always contribute…I always learn…and I
know the next time I have a question there will always be somebody to help
answer it for me

Funnily enough I have a “tough one” coming up in January (OS with a large
Singapore bank with some interesting challenges)…so I am trying to figure
out ‘the answer’ or at least the questions to ask to get ‘the answer’ so I
may well be digging into the vast collective wisdom soon

Best regards from a nice warm Malaysia

Hey…

Perhaps I am one of the frequent lurkers you mention here.

I enjoy reading some of the emails I receive though not all as sometimes the
volume is over my capacity.

I appreciate the active participation of some players who represent the
thoughts of many others.

I like this community.

Re: [OSList] Are You a frequent Lurker on OSLIST?

2014-12-10 Thread John Watkins via OSList
Daniel,

Game on.

I am a lurker and sometimes contributor to the OS Listserve. I am always
fascinated by the conversation and learn tons. But since I am not a regular
OST facilitator (though have led some open space "meetings" over time), I often
feel I am not really qualified to contribute. I am a huge fan of, reader
about, and user of open systems, complex adaptive systems, or emergence and
pattern formation, and network development theory, as those apply to social
systems. I do try to use those theories in my practical work, often behind the
scenes as conceptual framing because so many people are either intimidated by
those theories or they are explicitly and vocally anti-theory (not realizing we
all operate on theories all the time). So I sometimes comment about those
ideas here on the listserve.

But I am always here! Keep the work and the words flowing.

John Watkins

[OSList] Are You a frequent Lurker on OSLIST?

2014-12-10 Thread Daniel Mezick via OSList
Some of us were on a call on Tuesday, talking about Open Spaceand
OSLIST

...the participants at the time were

Chuni Li
Daniel Mezick
Karen Davis
Linda Stevenson
Lucas Cioffi
Paul Levy
Peggy Holman
Skye Hirst
Suzanne Daigle
Tricia Chirumbole
Harold Shinsato

We discussed OSLIST culture, and how the culture of OSLIST may not
actually be very easy to figure out...

...we talked about how this list has hundreds upon hundreds of members,
with just 25 to 45 people (give or take) who post or reply with anything
close to a regular frequency, and how some speak with highly
authoritative voices.

...we talked a bit about how the culture of OSLIST /might actually be
kind of intimidating for new people/ to participate in.

The Game

We have no idea how many "regular lurkers" are in the group...we talked
about trying to find out.

So: if you are a "regular lurker", someone who examines these OSLIST
threads periodically but does not actively participate ... are you
willing to play a little game?

The Lurker Game: you are invited to play...

1. *...The goal* is to collectively get some idea of how many of us on
the list are "regular lurkers".

2. *...The rules* are:

 * If you consider yourself a "regular lurker", consider opting in to
   the game, by replying...
 * If you reply, absolutely nothing further will be asked of you. All
you are doing is identifying yourself as someone who lurks. That's it.

3. ...We'll all track *the progress* by watching the thread, and seeing
how many reply over time.

4. ...Participation is *opt-in*.

To participate, just hit [Reply List] and enter "hey" and press [Enter]
...or...

... (optionally) just say whatever you might want to say, instead

We have no idea what might happen next; let's see what develops.

Thanks!
Daniel
