Re: [OSList] Is Open Space Education Possible?
Hi Suzanne, Good to see you yesterday. I realized this morning that Kennen (California) and Jose were not signed up on the roster of Participants for Letting Go OPTSD Stories. I wanted to make sure that they were included. Wishing you a safe flight. Re: [OSList] Is Open Space Education Possible?
Dear Jeff May i introduce amy/alizee i think you may find she is a perfectionist with boundless energy and very concerned to try to learn how to live up to harrison's spirit and goals especially of what i call stage 2 the open space itself i am very much more concerned with stage 1 - the invitation process- its not that I dont love stage 2 but I am an introverted maths guy and have zero skills as a mass real-time facilitator right now the invitation challenge concerning me in usa is how to spread enough awareness among 7000 students in the poorest college in the CUNY (public new york) system that they could be spending part of their time engaging academics in formats that are nearer open space than podium lectures and endless examinations; next months challenge will be planning 2016 exchanges between black and chinese youth as we are hopeful that amy has found a part of new york development agencies who want such a new york-china goodwill movement- fortunately her fiends at the vatican like maurizio want to triangularise this youth movement by including latin/franciscans who first introduced us to the Brooklyn college's leadership team If you are ever in new york or dc, amy would do a much better job than me in showing you round this sort of open space education challenge but i would be game too if i can be of any use Tomorrow our brooklyn college leadership has dared itself to show michael moores new film (kindly lent to us by the only half good mass media studio in new york) to hundreds of students - it starts with the claim that the exponentially increased cost of college education since the 1970s has been part of a most depressing way of controling black youth so that they have little role in developing anything - we are hoping the audience will be in live tweet mode after that heaven help us we may need all the facilitation skills we can outreach to chris macrae dc 240 316 8157 From: Jeff Aitken <r.jeff.ait...@gmail.com> To: christopher macrae <chris.mac...@yahoo.co.uk>; World wide Open Space Technology email list <oslist@lists.openspacetech.org> Sent: Sunday, 6 December 2015, 7:49 Subject: Re: [OSList] Is Open Space Education Possible? Wow Chris, I have a story to add to your story. It was closer to midnight last Friday, I couldn't sleep and I went to Facebook. Saw on Open Space Technology FB that a young woman by the name of Amy Chen had posted inquiring where there might be training in Open Space. I immediately responded by private message and suggested New York at International House in January with Harrison Owen and Karen Davis. She answered me back right away saying she was really interested. We texted each other back and forth for about 20 minutes. I suggested we Facetime the next morning at 10 am. Well we did for an hour and a half. When Amy said she nearly fell off her chair when Harrison invited her to Beijing, well I literally got off my chair Saturday morning dancing on my kitchen floor after we hung up. You see we had an ageless conversation, going everywhere and anywhere. Her history, my time in China, her huge interest in Open Space. It was an incredible conversation. I could hardly contain my enthusiasm imagining all the Open Space folks I wanted her to meet, some a little older than her, others much older. No matter. I imagined others we could invite to New York. I said you must come to Florida and meet the university students who co-hosted the World Open Space in 2013. About 30 of them. We talked about the future of work. I asked her if she knew Haier in China, a trailblazing self managed company. She said yes. They are famous. At the end I was exhausted with excitement. She was super energized. I suggested I'd sent her information on people I'd love her to meet, virtually or in person, I sent her tons of links, articles, etc. Totally fire hosed her. We talked about the round the world, round the clock virtual experiment celebrating Harrison's birthday. It was like the best ping pong match ever. I was totally bowled over by Amy too, for education and also for the workplace because Amy and others represent what's possible if we leap frog ahead, by opening space to engage and work together. All I can say Chris is thank you for connecting with her and connecting us all here. Fate then led you to introduce her to Harrison. How very cool it all is!
