Re: [OSList] Movement/Dance/Somatics/Embodiment - opening space within & without!

2019-12-05 Thread Jake Yeager via OSList
Hi Tricia!

Wonderful topic.

I met Jen Freeman this week, who
has studied tai-chi for many years and uses embodiment significantly in her
coaching and OD practice. It might be interesting to connect with her. Feel
free to mention my name and to remind her that she met me at the 2019 OD
Gathering.

Also, these books by Yuasa Yasuo might interest you:

   - The Body, Self-Cultivation, and Ki-Energy

   - The Body: Toward an Eastern Mind-Body Theory

Many dancers enjoy Yuasa's work a great deal because it connects movement
to spiritual/emotional growth and expression. I studied the first book a
great deal and enjoyed it too.

Much love,
Jake

Hi Tricia,
I like your question and I feel moved to follow this discussion. From my
experience - "4d's Maping" by the group as social body (Demonstrated by
Arawana in u.lab course) and group constelation, are more and more welcomed
in organizations. I find that when I offer a nonverbal way to look at the
current situation in the organization, and invite people to express their
next step in a nonverbal way, it's enable a strong and fast way to create
something new. Surprisingly, it's work great even in business corporates
cultures. From experience, It's usefull especially in a complex situations,
and adaptive problems, just like Open Space. So, I find it very interesting
chalenge to combine it with our Open space work.

All the best

2019-12-04 Thread Tricia Chirumbole via OSList
Yes! thank you so far to Christine and Marc! You both provided very useful
information and insights!

Christine, what you are saying is confirming my impulse and perhaps true
desire, which is to incorporate movement and somatics with other elements
and modalities. I have considered going back to train as a therapist or do
trauma-informed work, however, I believe I am more called to continue
developing organization coaching and group/systems work and I think many of
these embodiment and movement practices can fit quite nicely with other
elements that may be more dialogic.

And Yes Marc! Thank you for sharing your practices and reflections!
Honestly I am all about all of the expressive arts and both personally and
in my work and in my community. I regularly observe both the reticence and
challenge some people have in stepping in, as well as the liberation and
varied sort of expression and connection that can result!

This is all very helpful:)

Hi, Tricia!

Your query dovetails nicely with something that came up in passing at WOSonOS,
that we (at that event) tended to view “Proceedings” verbal/written. We had one
session captured through Graphic Recording. We observed that gently offering
alternative means of expression in Open Space might be useful, such as having
resources in the circle’s center to lying about; such as huge boxes of LEGO®,
drawing and painting and crafting materials, musical instruments. Perhaps an
implicit invitation to movement, dance, and videoing could be incorporated.

For myself, I incorporate movement a lot in workshops. I overuse
Constellations, moving to a place to express an opinion or an opinion on a
range or scale. I’ve begun to leverage LiberatingStructures.com and similar to
inject movement, such as between tables. Many have observed to me that people
express things with movement or LEGO® that they’d never express verbally,
though having done so, they often find the courage to verbally explain their
movement or other creation.

I encourage you in this exploration; it can only help us all!

Hi Tricia

What I see around me is :
- a lot of interest from individuals for body work in therapy, but very few
engagement for specific work with body only (so there are less and less
practitioners also)
- the development (more and more accepted) of group constellation work,
regarding private topics
- the slow introduction of constellation work or social presenting work in a
few professional settings (that are still margins over here)
to sum up : in my org. work, I don’t work with pioneers enough to see
potential applications

[OSList] Movement/Dance/Somatics/Embodiment - opening space within & without!

2019-12-03 Thread Tricia Chirumbole via OSList
Hello all!!

This may be a teeny tiny bit off topic, but I will try to make it relevant!

I am looking for your reflections, insights, advice, referrals, etc. in
respect to work that I am doing and looking to expand/deepen.

Some of you may know that I have a strong interest in
movement/dance/embodiment, particularly in application to personal growth,
healing/transformation, "mindfulness", and the connections & growth
possible within groups and systems through body wisdom, embodiment
practice, and collective movement.

The awareness and acceptance of the value of the body as both a source of
wisdom and an important modality for emotional processing, healing trauma,
creative expression, group connection, seems to be growing in a number of
arenas, applications, and communities.

I am currently exploring potential areas for expanding my learning and my
practice and gathering information and insights, as well as exploring
within, so that I can choose where to focus my energies.

My questions to this community are: Do you see potential application for
movement/somatics work within any of the communities or organizations where
you work?

If so, can you identify where/how you can imagine the integration of body
and movement into the work that you do or the life/workflow of the people
with whom you work?

I welcome any and all insights and reflections and referrals! I see this
work, the way that I approach it, as truly an invitation to open space
within oneself and within communities through exploration of body and
movement in a way that is liberated from form, function, expectation, or
expertise.

I hope that makes sense! I welcome all questions as well! Thank you in
advance! <3
