Thanks to both of you,I finally understand the psychology of OsmAnd:

Just by stating endpoints markers is enough for OsmAnd to draw the route, 
and give route distance and timing. My wrong interpretation was that I 
needed somehow to "press enter" for it to draw the route.

I can choose whatever marker I have made as start and endpoint and within 
seconds this route is calculated and shown on the map. clicking "start" 
does not change that. I don't know why that does not seem to work with the 
osmands (3.4.8) of roberto and bart. we need this to make plans, of course, 
and it works just fine.
