After first backing up the APK (thanks for that advice) then uninstalling
the old version Google Play allowed me to download and install version 2.9.3

Thanks. That's good news. So how do I upgrade? I can't see an upgrade menu option in the old (1.9.4) version. Is the answer to uninstall and reinstall from Google Play? I have an old phone that can't be upgraded beyond Android version 4.1.2. Currently OsmAnd+ version 1.9.4 is installed on it, but when I go to the Google "Play Store" to try to upgrade OsmAnd the Play Store simply says "Installed" and provides no option to upgrade.
