Re: Wikipedia Data - Where from?

2017-08-03 Thread Aceman444
Yes, I have also observed that articles that have coordinates in the proper
wikipedia place (coords template) are used. Whether OSM objects have the
wikipedia tag seems irrelevant for OsmAnd.

Re: Wikipedia Data - Where from?

2017-08-03 Thread Bart Eisenberg
Coordinates and formatting specifications for Wikipedia articles are
entered using the "Coord" template
. The result generally
appears in the upper-right portion of the article.

For example, here's the template for Mount Fuji:
{{coord|35|21|29|N|138|43|52|E|type:mountain_scale:10|format=dms|display=inline,title}}

And here's the associated Wikipedia entry:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mount_Fuji=792549292

Ok,
That means there's more wikipedia data than just the ones tagged from OSM,
so I'm happy.

Thanks

Re: Wikipedia Data - Where from?

2017-08-03 Thread Harry van der Wolf
I won't go in on how languages are dealt with and which cross checks are
done.

OsmAnd dowloads the raw database dumps for all available languages from the
Wikipedia servers.
The scripts check all the articles for coordinates. If the article contains
coordinates, the article is added to the wkipedia file.

Wikipedia Data - Where from?

2017-08-03 Thread jethro
I see one or two threads about how wikipedia works on OSMand but nothing on
what data we have here/is relevant.

Is it any wikipedia data, by Lat/Long and appears on the map in appropriate
places.
Or is it data where an osm tag has a link to the article. ie. Just what OSM
users have put in.

Thanks
J
