Hello!
Mick, isn't this an ongoing issue? I mean it first came up several
versions earlier. As for what is causing this, check your loading. And
is the hub powered directly? Or parasitic powered? Same with the temp
sensors.

2.8p13 so it is a little old. I will update and see if that fixes it.

The channel with the problem sensors is actually the shortest of all.
There are 7 DS18S20 sensors on this channel in a star configuration, I
know star is not the best but the longest leg is only about 3 metres,
and the two problem sensors are not the longest or the shortest ones.

I'll try the upgrade and post back

Most of Michael's corrections are now in the CVS version. As soon as fully

Perhaps this is related to the problems that I reported a few years
ago, when I had a number of hubs, long wires and many sensors, which
over a few hours would go missing. Restarting owserver made them come
back. I eventually fixed this by replacing the 1-wire hubs with usb
hubs instead and 18 1-wire adapters, which was a good move anyway to
increase stability (i.e. one short on one run wont affect other runs)
and to increase speed/parallelism.

Anyway, I still have a couple of hubs left in other setups which
happen to be stable now after juggling a bit with owfs versions and
topology, but I dare not add sensors. If owfs now is able to correct
these issues itself now, that's really great news!

[Owfs-developers] Sensors go Missing!

2012-05-15 Thread Mick Sulley
Hi,

I occasionally get a sensor, or sometimes 2 or 3, that 'go missing'! I
scan all of them 2 - 3 times per minute and at the moment there is one
that has not been read for 12 hours. It is a DS18S20. If I look at
directories I can see its directory, and read all of the files, address,
alias, etc except for temperature, when I try it returns 'Could not open
the file' 'Unexpected error: Unknown reason'

I have tried both the normal and uncached with the same result. All
sensors are powered. I saw it happen with 3 sensors a couple of weeks
back, out for a couple of days and then they came back again.

Any ideas what can cause this?

Re: [Owfs-developers] Sensors go Missing!

2012-05-15 Thread Michael Markstaller
Unfortunately, I have exactly the same problem here. Devices are missing
 especially after some error occurs
on a bus. Somebody believe that it is owfs bug, but nobody knows how to fix
 it.
Well thats not perfectly right as I last pointed out here (including a partial
workaround)
http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.file-systems.owfs.devel/9328
As it wasn't picked up yet I'll try it again in short words:
DS9490 are not getting initialized (right) with flexible speed SPU etc. after a
reset-error occurs (which might be another problem and the source) and
furtheron things simply go as wrong as it could when running the DS9490 with
poweron-defaults. On anything that exceeds some test-setup on a desk..
That first point is pretty clear and can be seen easily by just adding the
debug-output in ow_usb_msg.c from my patch.

I cant believe, that knowbody has the knowhow to fix that.
As soon as i remember, Michael indicated some potential problem areas
(usb and others).

I tried to place some decoupling capacitors to reduce errors without
great luck. Now I just restart owserver every 3 hours and this makes my
 system more stable.
Three is a thread here about construction USB - i2c - 1wire hub, but the
 approach should be tested.

For me this is just another way todo it. But why not support the usb
busmaster in a correct way?

Most of Michael's corrections are now in the CVS version. As soon as fully
tested, we'll make a new release.
