Does anyone know of any research regarding risk of subsequent 3rd/4th degree perineal tears during vaginal birth.  I know of a woman who has experienced this with her first birth, then had a caesar to avoid a similar episode next time.  She is having her 3rd child and is revisiting the idea of a vaginal birth as the pain of the caesar, whilst not lasting for as long, was much more intense than the pain of the tear.

She had a "long" second stage and birthed on all fours for the first birth apparently.
