I have now had three viruses in as many days sent 
via the list from the same address, luckily the anti virus software has stopped 
it from getting through so beware

I apologise for the emails being sent to this 
list apparently from me. I have no idea why they are being sent, as I have an up 
to date virus protector  have run a scan several times withno 
evidence of a virus.Maybe they are coming from yahoo, so I will 
unsubscribe from there to see what happens. Please email me directly if it 
continues as I will be off this list.

Just as a byline to this: I had Norton anti-virus installed (I thought) on
my laptop WHEN I bought it BUT I hadn't turned it on (because i
didn't$%#-well know I had too...how dumb is that...)UNTL I got the blaster
worm earlier this year and it started sending bits of my life to random
people in my address book. I found a lovely computer tech in Tully, yes
Tully (I love Tully) Nth Qld who dewormed my laptop and activated my
firewall etc. for only $35, he is such a gem.  So, though to some of you who
are very very smart and quite possibly wealthier and more frugal than I,
this may seem extravagent, if it all seems too much, visit a computer tech
and they will put your computerlife in order. Yes bigpond had a
problem..remember when I asked if anyone else was getting multiple copies of
the same email...that was bigpond's fault..it has been fixed, no longer
happening but maybe someone else's server has it.

that is all I know except that as of this moment I am worm and virus
free...my laptop is anyway...

their phone line system. That could explain why all the 
weirdvirusesare going through. Bigpond has major problems of the 
same sort. One would think that such a major server would have their own site 
squeaky clean.

I log onto Symantec and update my virus definitions 
every morning before I open any emails.

My home email is with bigpond.  The last few viruses that have come through the list 
have been detected by bigpond and the contents of the email removed by them before it 
gets to me.
Telstra  bigpond did have some problems.  This new virus detection service is, I 
guess, part of their attempts to fix the problem

I just picked up a virus from your message too 
Caroline, detected by my virus checker. I downloaded Norton Antivirus earlier 
this year, not sure what the web site is but I am sure someone out there can 
help. I think the company is Symantec, and if you do a google search you will 
surely find them.

Yes Jen that is correct.  We run on Linux software here at home (compatible 
with netscape and Eudora but I use Kmail) and we NEVER have virus issues... 
ever!

The file is not detected by antivirus systems because it is apparently a 
conventional windows file and deleting it will damage your file manager (or 
something similar).  Sorry to report...  Wonder if it will now be necessary 
to reinstall?

  Get someone to email you the file that you deleated and put it 
  back.
  That is the best way.
  It should not be hard to fix if it is a windowsfile.

sites www.symantec.com is the one I use, 
you will be able to get the instructions to reinstall this deleted 
file

Yes it is a haox, and very often by carrying out the instructions in this sort of message, you will delete files that are necessary for the operation of your computer.

not sure what it would have done but deleted it anyway and nothing happened so

A virus has been passed onto our computers. 
As your contact is in my address book, you may have received this virus 
from me as well. Please see the instructions below to delete and pass on 
to your contacts  The virus (called jdbgmgr.exe) is not detected 
by Norton or McAfee or VET anti virus systems. The virus sits quietly 
for 14 days before damaging the system. It's sent automatically by 
messenger and by the address book whether or not you send 
e-mails to your contacts. Here's how to check for the virus and how to 
get rid of it. YOU MUST DO THIS -   
  1. Go to start (bottom left corner), find the search option (or 
"find"). 2. In the files / folders option, 
write the name jdbgmgr.exe 3. Be sure to search your 
C: drive and any other drives you may have. 4. Click 
"find now" 5. The virus has a teddy bear icon with 
the name jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT.   
  6. Go to edit : choose "select all" to highlight the file without 
opening it. 7. Now go to file and select 
"delete". It will go to your recycle bin. 8. Go to 
your recycle bin and delete it there as well. IF YOU 
FIND THE VIRUS YOU MUST CONTACT ALL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK SO

This message has been around for some months now.  When I checked with my internet provider
they said it was not a virus and not to do anything which I didn’t and nothing
untoward happened.  It may be best to
check with your internet provider or the provider of your anti-virus systems
before you delete anything from your computer.

  My server said that they have put a virus check on their end and I

I am getting emails that are being caught by my 
virus check, they are all attachments but all have titles that have been on the 
ozmid list previously for eg "vbac petition". Just beware of anything with 
attachments even if the author is known and the subject title 
familiar.

I/my computer has been infected with a virus probably from this list. If 
you have received a random attachment from [EMAIL PROTECTED] with no 
accompanying email,DELETE ITNOW! and run your anti virus software. I 
am sorry, I have picked up a virus which randomly picks anyone who has ever sent 
me an email and sends them maybe one of my files or someone elses stuff. I 
think I got it from OZMID: it is the only list I am on, no I lie, there is the 
B. Mid Student Collective too. Anyway, I have a lot of work to do on my 
harddrive, maybe just reinstalling stuff. I am going off list for a while while 
I reconfigure. It is called military33something.exe. Does anyone know a computer 
geek between Cairns and Townsville??
Again, I am sorry, there must be a glitch with how I set up my antivirus 
software that let it in. 

And how do I get off list??

it has actively blocked our Norton Anti-Virus from working. (thanks kids for
downloading it *sigh* ) It works by sending mail from an address IN my box
to one in YOUR box. Nasty stuff. We're working on it, but we have to disable
NAV and go the long way round whilst we do so.

So please delete anything that look suspicious.

Also,  Symantec tells us this message is a fake one:
