Hi Carlos
Packman doesn't build this package for 15.4 anymore;

<https://pmbs.links2linux.de/package/show/Extra/yt-dlp>

So a less than a few weeks before EOL, backup and upgrade time?

Hi
That is not the real purpose of the Packman build service, GNS3 can be
built on the openSUSE build service.

Suggest you find a current home user who is building it and ask to
maintain and push to the Games development repository;

Hi
Have you looked at the cronjob and script? It's not for end user use
just a maintainer tool (should be a _service... so the actual changes
get added.)

Likewise it's broken for the original OP the openSUSE version
works...

Hi
Then I would suggest a systemd service and timer created and submitted
to Network Utilities. Cron is dead! ;)

It could just be created as an extra package, the main goal is to
remove the unnecessary packages to reduce build resources, this seems
like a candidate

Hi
The Packman version doesn't build the python module? Is there any
point in actually having it on Packman anymore since it's built on OBS
and ffmpeg is just a requires?

If it does, then should it not just be a link to the openSUSE
development version in Network:Utilities so it's just rebuilt here?

Hi
What should be done is use bcond's on the openSUSE version to get what
your wanting, then a link is created on packman repository for it to
rebuild where those bconds get activated, one package, one place to
maintain

Hi
Until you get your account activated, took the liberty to branch, update
and fix (tested on tumbleweed)... missing a few build dependencies and
some spec file tweaks.

Hi
Correct, if needed for build only publishing should be disabled and
collect from the relevant OBS repo

The whole idea is anything that can be built on OBS needs to go there
as build power etc is limited on Packman.

Hi
You mean the spec file, changes file etc when you refer to 'form'?

Nothing stopping you copying the whole hamradio development project to
your home on OBS and publishing from there.

Hi
So what if an openSUSE User who doesn't want packman but does want
cups-pdf for 42.2, they are SOL?

They use devel repos and know the risk, they install and disable the
Printing repo, or they download and manually install all from OBS, I
think our current max repos added by a user with issues was 108 on the
forums ;)

@olaf, I think you will wind up going down a sticky road once you start
re-adding stuff that can be built on OBS... If it makes it to
Tumbleweed, then it gets in the next release if maintainers push...

Hi
So push it to 42.3 and folk can grab it from the Printing repo, as
maintainer, you can always build with what your happy with and then
just disable the build for 42.2 so you can decide if and when a package
can go through...

Even small packages mount up, many have been push back to OBS because
of minimal build power on packman... now with all the arm stuff coming
online, more load...

Hi
Then you need to ask the maintainer of cups-pdf to push into the next
release (it exists in Tumbleweed), or as indicated add the Printing
repo, or just download the rpm.

If it exists on OBS, then due to packman build power (well lack there
of) unless there is a specific package required that only exists on
packman to add further features (eg un-cripple) then communicate with
the OBS maintainers to get it pushed where you would like it.

So if it links to factory/Tumbleweed on OBS, then it will break on
packman as well... a bit ironic ;)

Hi
I don't think pmbs has the spare build power...?

If you have an OBS account you could just build locally (with
osc) against HEAD, no need for the source to reside on OBS...?

You don't even need the repo present, just use --alternative-project
option.

Hi
You need to fix the ownership of the /home/tvheadend directory

cd /home
chown -R hts:video tvheadend

The ownership issue is fixed for a fresh install of the 4.0.8 version,
still a manual fix for the earlier ones

Hi
No issues here with tvheadend, yes it's a manual job for the superuser
file in /home/tvheadend/config.

Hi
OK, fixed the permissions issues and user hts group video (an error in
the spec file sed command), so the new 4.0.8 version doesn't create the
tvheadend user anymore and no further work is required.

There was also an error in my script, forgot the quotation marks around
the actual username/password, updated script here;

Hi
Hmmm 'other'? I have;
gekkota-tv:~ # cat /etc/sysconfig/tvheadend
# Configuration file for the tvheadend service.

OPTIONS="-c /home/tvheadend/config -u hts -g video -6 --http_port 9981

Sounds like a clean up may be in order?

OK, will see what I can script out ;)

[packman] Packaging standards dropping?

2015-02-19 Diskussionsfäden Malcolm
Hi
Just an observation that maybe needs clarification to pmbs users, a
mention on the openSUSE forum of the following package tweaked my
interest, so went to check it out;

https://pmbs.links2linux.de/package/show/Extra/UEFITool

Why has the pristine tarball been changed, it should be as downloaded,
yes?

No updated changes file?

No peer review, AFAIK, package updates should be branched into the
users home project, updated and submitted, not directly committed.

I see no reason for this package not to be built on OBS to help reduce
build load.

[packman] MPD - Updated to version 0.19.3 - libwrap issue.

2014-11-19 Diskussionsfäden Malcolm
Hi
I've gone through and updated mpd in my home project, cleaned out the
unused patches and rebased the ones still present, also cleaned up the
systemd bits.

However it won't build with libwrap enabled.

It fails with an undefined reference here;
http://paste.opensuse.org/90dc1f26

Maybe someone can offer some guidance on this, is it a linking order
issue?

Anyway, at present I've disabled this option and put it up on PMBS, but
am reluctant to SR in this state as unsure of libwraps requirements for
folks? Plus home doesn't publish for folks to test... (or can that be
enabled?)

Or should I SR?

Package build link;

I had given it a try myself but hit a snag pretty soon.

Two things: according to
http://www.musicpd.org/doc/user/install_source.html libmpdclient is
also a requirement but it's in Multimedia. I haven't tried, but it
might be a good idea to see what happens if you link against it.

Also 0.9.14 is out, so one should work directly on that.

Good luck.
Hi
Thanks for the tip and heads up on 0.9.14 will give it another go

I would suggest reviewing the rpmlint reports and fix the warnings, you
should also add some info about the patches and what they are for.

Normally you just submit the package back, once you update via a submit

can see from their web site).

No, you can only buy Long-Term-Service-Pack-Support starting from
SP1.

(Am there, doing that :-))
Hi
The support life cycle is now 10 years + 3 LTSS fro SLE 11 SP3 as
released at SUSEcon.

Actually there's no such term

such names only appear in download.o.o which means packages there are

The only reason I noticed it today was that I have a newish laptop that

SP1 seems to be the oldest supported version. Building against it
warranties it will work with all the supported versions of SLE-11
(those being SP1 and SP2, but no GA).

I mean, this compatibility thing is only half true: e.g. SP2
   ships with Qt = 4.8, while SP0 doesn't.

Which means a binary build against SP2 perhaps will not work in SP0.
But a binary build in SP0 will work in SP2 (if you trust Qt ABI is
  100% stable).

Yes, but there are things we can build on SP2 which we can't
 build on SP1 (e.g. vlc 2.x).

I guess that the ideal setup then would be to build Essentials
against SP1, and then only build against SP2 when we can't build
 against SP1.

The trouble though is that users of SP2 need to add both the
(Packman) repo for SP1 and the (Packman) repo for SP2, at least
if they want to use those additional packages (such as vlc 2.x).
Still sounds like a viable option, but IMHO experience shows
that this kind of information is very difficult to get across to
 users.

 Opinions?

 cheers
Hi
Correct, they need to add both SP1 and SP2 just like the default
repositories added (as indicated in the TID), the structure should
follow the same concept.

SP1 == SP1.
SP2 = SP1  SP2.

Hi
You need to use the advanced feature to add a 'Mulitmedia' or
'Essential' repo as the default;

eg: Multimedia/openSUSE_12.1

Else if you branch the vlc package, it will add the correct repository.

Nope, the will reside in their respective 'devel' repository just not

Packman-repostories/mirrors. They were necessary and very convenient.
Trusted names to me were Manfred Tremmel, Detlef Reichelt and Pascal
Bl;aser. If some packages didn't work I sent a mail and most of the
times the answers were polite and helpful.

I followed the discussions about the future of Packman and the
 threads about Claws mail unleashed.

I would regret the dead of Packman and meanwhile to me it's another
example of what I think open software projects in principle have in
common many times: no clear leadership, no clear goal and too much
non-commitment. Besides that the OpenSUSE-community itself (so not
Packman) suffers - at least in my view - a kind of meritocracy that's
apparently highly appreciated by the leadership of the
Suse-community, but will be contraproductive. I consider meritocracy
reprehensible. Nevertheless I'm satisfied by the Suse-distributions
themselves. But as far as the needs of average end-users are
considered I think Ubuntu (yea, yea, under strong supervision of
Cannonical) is better suited. Software has to be made for the users,
not to satisfy ideas of developpers. That's my humble opinion.

When I read the OpenSUSE strategy statement (too long discussed in
the past year) I think there's still a disdain among many developpers
towards the average end user. In my experience the Packman-team had
 not.

Neither open source projects, neither the end-users deserve the
 properties I described above.
Wether I trusted the packages of Packman I am not sure what the
contributors of the OBS are after, especially those with there home
projects and their home-repositories. Besides that I wonder who is in
control of the quality of the OBS-packages, whou decides what is in,
or should be in the OBS and how are restricted formats and
proprietary patents handled. And are the OBS-packages compiled to all
yet supported distributions? In regard to the latter: I don't think
so. I think the OBS is not that convenient and easy to use for the
 end-user yet.

Packman is, at least in the past when OBS didn't exist.

I would prefer Packman goes on the way it was and with the broad
scope of packages it used to have.
I've always appreciated your work and I hope you go on.

 kind regards,

Hi
AFAIK it's all to do with build power, there is an abundance on the Open Build
Service not so on the packman build service.

I have pushed the claws-mail (and plugins) updates to the development
repository (GNOME:Apps) and now wait for review, from there it will
get pushed to Factory. I'm not sure whether it would get pushed as an
update in 12.1 oss, but once it's accepted into GNOME:Apps I will ask.

Maybe someone can enlighten me on a specific topic: I am reading
different Mails here and someone speaks of OBS (Build Service)
others talk about OSS (which for me is the open Source software
setup repository of a Suse installaton?)

I meant part of the released distribution above.

So as long as a specific Software is available in the default setup
repository, I'm fine with that. But if it is in Build service which
for me seems like a bunch of different repos of various quality and
unclear maintenance, then that's not an option.

To get my Suse setup up and running i used to have oss, non-oss,
update and packman in the past.

Now I have (besides the 4 mentioned above):

  KDE:Extra for knutclient
  Security:Passwordmanagement for Keepassx
  KDE:Extra:KDE_Release_46_... for Luminance HDR
  Graphics:Opensuse for Rawtherapee

So the problem here is that these packages are not provided by the
regular distribution, ie. that they are not part of Factory
because there is no maintainer willing to maintain them there.
I don't see how this relates to Packman.

Education for Scribus newer then 1.4 RC1

 See below.

  Videolan for libdvdcss

This cannot be legally distributed in Germany or the US so there's
no way for Packman or openSUSE to provide it.

And if I want to check now, where Scribus 1.4 RC6 can be found: it
  is available under
  - KDE:Release:47
  - KDE:Distro:Factory
  - KDE:UpdatedApps
  - KDE:Distro:Stable
  - Education

And I'm only talking about Suse 11.4 here. This is close to
  ridiculous.

Fact is, that Suse 11.4 delivered scribus 1.4 RC1 through the
default setup-repository, which was almost unusable due to major
  bugs. And instead of delivering subsequent RCs (2, 3, 4, 5, 6 -
which fixed most of the bugs) via update - where they belong - one
is now forced to include suspicious OBS-repos.

In this particular case the right way to deal with this is to
file a bug and ask the maintainer to issue an update for 11.4.
Was this done and if so why was it rejected?

I'd rather go for default oss, non-oss and update together with all
  the rest in packman.

If the packages you cited above actually had a maintainer willing to
maintain them properly they could go into Factory just as well,
again I think this issue has little to do with Packman.

Hi All
GNOME:Apps is the development project for claws-mail;
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=claws-mailproject=GNOME%3AApps

So that (when updated get's pushed to factory). It will then be
available in the other repositories. If vuntz or DimStar allow an
updated into oss, it will get pushed to the 12.1 update channel...

The file /usr/share/applications/guvcview.desktop has an error.
Line 8 currently reads: Exec=A video viewer and capturer for the
 linux uvc driver
This should be changed to Comment=A video viewer... and the line
 Exec=guvcview should be added.

Thank you for your attention to this.
Hi
