[packman] Bug tracker went down!
Hi, I was attempting to create an issue indicating the out-of-date status of lazarus and fpc/fpc-source packages when nothing happened at the form submission click. Sorry guys but it looks like I broke it! :S Regards, Neil Darlow ___ Packman mailing list Packman@links2linux.de http://lists.links2linux.de/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/packman
Re: [packman] VLC 2.0.1: no mozillaplugin, no phonon-backend

Has this update been introduced without adeqaute thought? If vlc-2.x requires phonon-4.6 then it will not be compatible with openSUSE-12.1 or earlier. If it cannot be built against phonon-4.5 then I would suggest we stay with vlc-1.x until openSUSE-12.2 is released. Re: [packman] xine broken
Hi, On Saturday 07 Jan 2012 20:03:59 Smartysmart34 wrote: The whole OBS / Packman issue and the decreasing quality of repos in general makes me want to change distros. Just afraid of the bunch of work it causes I'm not sure that switching distributions will help there. OBS and other community repositories (e.g. Arch's AUR, FreeBSD's ports etc.) will always have the potential for quality issues unless a QA process is enforced. I have always seen Pacman's offerings as very high quality. Packman has some of the best volunteer packagers I have come across in any distribution. If I have any criticism of Packman it would be that it Tries too hard! in that updates come frequently but this could also be interpreted as the packagers being very responsive. [packman] nepomukservicestub crashes with kdenlive
Hi, I am running kdenlive-0.8-1.5.x86_64 (with dependencies from packman) on KDE-4.6.5 (from the KDE:Release46 OBS repository). I experience nepomukservicestub crashes during the import of DV video from my camcorder (at the 1GB file splits) and during project rendering to VOB (sometimes during the render but always at the end). Although kdenlive reports that the rendered file will be corrupted I have not found that to be the case and the imports seem fine. I appreciate that this might not be packman related but there must be others on this list who use a kdenlive/kmediafactory/k3b workflow like me and may have seen the same crashes. Event better, they may know of a solution. I hesitate at pointing the finger directly at KDE-4.6.5 and/or nepomukservice stub because I don't experience these crashes elsewhere including the infamous nepomukservicestub crash at logout. Hi, On Sunday 03 Apr 2011 23:13:23 Carl Eugen Hoyos wrote: But it contained a regression before it was merged into FFmpeg. So libav introduced features that were less than perfect while the ffmpeg project chose to wait until they were? Fortunately, you do not have to believe me to know that this is not correct, you just have to read the explanation from the ffmpeg-mt developer: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.video.ffmpeg.devel/124245 My information was taken from the libav website's explanation for their existence. Maybe I should have consulted the ffmpeg project for their perspective on why libav came about. I'm sure there are reasons, both good and bad, on both sides. Note that FFmpeg contains several features missing in the fork, video filters among them. (No features from the fork are missing in FFmpeg, the fork just contains less fixes for user-reported bugs.) I don't know how to interpret that. libav removed features from ffmpeg. Is there an inference that libav removed troublesome features or it is that their development model provides less manpower or time for bug fixes. Correctness of my statement apart, I am sure that Manfred switched from ffmpeg to libav for good reasons. I also expect he was aware of any defiencies introduced by making the switch before he committed to doing so. Hi, On Sunday 03 Apr 2011 17:32:14 todd rme wrote: Having libav available as an alternative to ffmpeg is a good idea in my opinion (as with mplayer2), but the decision as to which one should be set as the default probably needs a more thought and discussion. I do know the original recently incorporated multi-threading support, I don't know if labav has this yet or not. libav had multithreading support before ffmpeg. That was, apparently, one of the issues leading to the fork. The ffmpeg lead developer was reluctant to add the feature but was forced to do so after libav released with it. With individual repositories (Essentials, Extra and Multimedia) I stopped receiving updates last Friday (04/03) but since I have switched to the monolithic repository the updates have started flowing again. I first noticed this after my request for kmediafactory which appeared on the website but not in the separate repositories. Once I went monotlithic it appeared in the repository. [packman] Is it possible for Packman to provide vdpau-video-nvidia?
Hi, I am attempting to get VDPAU working (on 11.4-RC2-x86_64) with Packman's VLC packages. During the course of doing this I found that I needed vdpau-video-nvidia to provide /usr/lib64/dri/nvidia_drv_video.so and the only place I could locate this package was the VideoLAN repository. Unfortunately there seems to be a compatibility problem because, although the library loads, a segfault results within avcodec. Is there any reason why Packman can't provide vdpau-video-nvidia to assure that compatibility is maintained.
